Hello Team Slimsons and Welcome to March!!
My name is Ashley @AB0215 I will be your captain for this month.
Here's a little about me:
I am 33, and I have been overweight basically my entire life and in the last 2 years or so, I decided to change that, I have been working towards that goal for the past year. I'm down 90 lbs and I still have a way to go, but I will get there. Let's do this!
Please feel free to introduce yourselves and share your goals for the month, I'd actually like to encourage this as I know that for me it helps me to have some accountability and helps me reach my goals when I share them..and with that in mind, my goal this month is to lose 5 pounds. I've been training for an Olympic Style Weight lifting competition and that was just last month, did okay, now I have some things to work on before my next one!
I'd like to help us be as successful as possible and if I can help in any way, please let me know. Also, if you have any suggestions for the team or fun ideas to spice things up a bit, please feel free to share them, I look for new ways to help engagement and keep people motivated!!
I am committed to this group and to help where I can, and please let me know if I can help in any way!!
Side note--I follow a Ketogenic diet for any that may be interested, I have tons of recipes and resources for anyone interested.
Welcome to March and let's make things happen this month together!!
Your Captain,
Ashley (@AB0215)5 -
Hello Team Slimsons,
My name is Gloria @gjaholy33, once again I will be your Co-captain which means motivating and keeping track of your weight.
I am 40years old and trying to lose 200lbs by April so I won't have to do the bariatric surfery. I have been disable due to a work injury in 2015 and need to lose weight in order to get better as I am severely obese. Just to encourage those who are struggling with staying on track I have been trying to get healthy since 2010 and it's a constant struggle but I've learn to set short attainable goals in order to succeed. There are a lot of days which the pain is unbearable along with additional health issues such as asthma and pulmonary hypertension due to a long slow gas leak in my apartment has not help matters but since I am determine to lose 200lbs I know I have to Stay positive and look forward and not back at what I did yesterday.
I am currently STRUGGLING JUST TO MAINTAIN FROM DAY TO DAY on my weightloss journey. So I have been doing a lot of praying and meditating in order to remain positive which is my key to being successful at my goals.
I always set goals for myself and this month my goal is to lose 10lbs! Exercise 10-15 minutes every other day.
REMEMBER WE GOT THIS!

ABOUT THE CHALLENGES & REQUIRED WEIGHT POSTINGS
We are also going to be running (Optional) Mini-challenges again this month: Question of the Week (assuming I can remember to do that) and Daily Posts
First and foremost is that participation in these challenges is optional. It's up to you as to whether you want to try this. If you don't want to participate in these challenges, you don't have to, the choice is yours, but I would like to encourage you to participate as it seems to help keep us on track and thinking about our goals on a daily basis and it's encouraging to see other's successes and struggles so that we realize that we are not alone!!
The Daily Posts Challenge is based on another challenge on MFP called UAC (Ultimate Accountability Challenge). The way UAC works is that the aim is to follow 5 basic rules.
#1. Track EVERYTHING you eat that has calories.
#2. Stay inside your allocated daily budget.
#3. Try to do at least 20 minutes of activity a day (anything: walk, run, cycle, swim, gardening, housework, yoga, gym, etc.. As long as it gets you active and off the couch)
#4. 1 pass day permitted per week (went over calories, could not track, not enough exercise, intentional pass)
#5. Check in daily (tracking yes/no, calories yes/no, exercise yes/no).
****End of the week. those who have managed to keep to plan for 6 out of 7 days are recognized in the thread as being part of the weekly "Winners Circle".
A side note as there has been a bit of confusion for new members in the past, this is not the same as the official results, which are weight based, this is just another tool to help you reach your weight loss goals.
**REMEMBER**
You set your own daily budget.
You choose you own exercise and intensity (no step limit, no exercises you cannot or should not do, 20 mins of gardening counts as much as a 10 mile run, activity is activity, anything that gets you up and moving!).
Is not weight based (as weight fluctuates day by day).
Can continue beyond weight loss.
Daily check in keeps you in touch with those doing similar. Longer term weight management is hard to do on your own.
It also has frequent resets (as in a circle each week).
It works on an honor system. Being honest with yourself and others is a key to making things work. Remember, this is a judgement free zone, everyone has good days and bad days, but the way to get to the finish line is by being honest and when we have a bad day, picking ourselves up and carrying on the next day!
Consistency and new habits have been shown the only long term successful way to change weight. We all want the progress made here to last a lifetime.
Your posts should look like this:
Daily Post (Sunday/Date)
Track: Yes/no
Calories: Yes/no (were you under)
Exercise: Yes/no (what type and how long)
Goals/Day/Comments: (Tell us a brief description about your how your day went or your goals for the day)
The Question of the Week Challenge is a fun participation booster and we will be using it sometimes just as fun and sometimes it can help to foster new ideas for others as we all are different and have different experiences so sharing ideas can help someone else with motivation of freshening up their routine even!! Keep on the lookout for these questions.
Please post your weight on your scheduled weigh in day, as if you miss weigh-ins, you may be eliminated from the challenge and we don't want to see that happen!!
Your posts should look like this:
Username:
Week: February Week 1
PW =(previous weight)
CW=(current weight)
Please, please setup your posts in that format as it really makes it much easier for us to track your progress for the challenges and the weight loss!!
We'd like to help you be as successful as possible and if we can help in any way, please let us know. Also, if you have any suggestions for the team or fun ideas to spice things up a bit, please feel free to share them, we look for new ways to help engagement and keep people motivated!!
We are committed to this group and to help where we can, and please let us know if we can help in any way!!
Once again Welcome to March Challenge,
Your Captain Ashley (@AB0215) &
Co-captain Gloria (@Gjaholy33)6 -
ENCOURAGEMENTTO OUR NEW H OLD MEMBERS THAT IT IS NOT JUST ABOUT THE SCALE. . .
NON-SCALE VICTORIES (NSV's)
🎉CELEBRATING FEBRUARY MEMBERS NSV's🎉
#1 - @AB0215 2/10/19 1:29AM
"So my training is going well, my trainer wanted to put me on his instagram page, so now I'm out there for the world to see, but it looks good so I'm okay with that. Starting to look at competition dates, super excited. Might also need a new singlet since I've lost a significant amount since the last time I wore it and there's a lot of cute options.....
Had to finally invest in a new coat, been putting it off since I'm still losing but my old one was so bit it just let in all the cold air, totally defeating the purpose of wearing the coat so I caved and got a new one. Also picked up some waterproof running shoes...since I do that every day no rain or shine, and I hate walking around in wet shoes so it's been an expensive week but worth it for the long term..."
#2 @batgirl140 2/13/19 8:20PM
"NSV: I made an army of tiny dogs made of smarties and Hershey kisses today for my kids Valentines at school. 200 kisses and 50 smarty rolls in front of me all day and I only had 1 of each. "
#3 - @Bm00re2u 2/14/19 12:40AM
"My NSV was going up on weight for squats and bench press, and doing an assisted pull up with 30 lbs. instead of 60 lbs. 💪"
#4 - @Bm00re2u 2/21/19 12:24AM
"I had a NSV today that really made the day great! My coworker noticed my weight loss by saying "Wow, you have really lost weight! I can see your face is getting smaller!" That made me smile. I'm so grateful for my family's support and the support of all of you! Couldn't have gotten this far without you all 💪😊😎😁"
#5 - @CindyJNC1963 2/11/19 9:50AA
"Wooohoooo!!!! The plateau has been broken in a big way. I went three weeks gaining and losing the same two pounds so this is a welcome relief. Plateaus are such a bear. I knew I was doing everything right but I was starting to doubt myself. I'm glad I stuck with it. I am 0.8 lbs away from a 50 lb loss now.
A few weeks ago I bought 3 pairs of pants that were way too small. I am now wearing one of those pairs of pants at work. I just ordered 3 more pair because my old pants are falling off of me. They need to go in the Goodwill bin. I also ordered 3 too small shirts. I've gone from size 26 to size 20. It will be nice to get back in the teens again....and it's not too far away"
#6 - @Ver9nika 2/24/19 4:04PM
"Tonight I had my very first NSV
We had party at fancy restaurant. Without any hope I tried on one dress, which was too small and waited for me on closet for 1.5 years and it was fine and nice
Then I got bold and tried fancy ring, which I couldn't wear over the same period as fingers were too fat, and it suited also perfectly
I received lots of compliments and had nice evening feeling proud about myself "
These are just a few of our February NSV's remember this journey is your own personal journey so please and I cannot reiterate this enough do not compare your success with others. We all have different goals for example, my goal is 'just being able to get out of bed and do 10-15 minutes workout every other day.'
We are all in this together to help and support one another as we struggle through to make some healthy lifestyle changes. LET'S START POSITIVE AND REMEMBER WE GOT THIS!
Looking forward to reading all your NSVs posts in March.5 -

Hi! My name is Beth @inmylife1979 and am a new Slimson!
I haven't taken great care of myself since I had my kids back the spring of 2015. I know that I can get on track again, but this will be my first time as a parent. I've discovered that EVERYTHING is a bit more challenging when you have kids (at least for me). I've always been overweight and/or on some kind of diet. Last year I completed all the steps to get bariatric surgery, but decided against it. I need to change my lifestyle for my family... I make most of the decisions about food, so I need to set them all up to be successful. I also realize how important it is for me to do this for myself. I want to feel better (physically and mentally).
I'm excited about this challenge. I'm excited about the daily post challenge. I need to set some short term goals to get started because I've been saying I need to "get started" for the past 3.5 years.
I'm 39 years old. My weight as of Monday morning was 304 lbs.
Goal for the week:
*Log all my food. Everything. Even bites. (This is the week I refer to as the good, the bad, and the ugly.) Day 2: so far, so good.
Goal for the month:
*Lose 10 lbs
*Cook more meals at home
*Find ways to exercise at home or before work
Long term goal:
*Lose 100 lbs

@inmylife1979 Hi Beth, welcome! I agree with the surgery, it can help you to lose weight, but if you don't change your lifestyle, you can still gain it back and at that point, it may not be worth it to put yourself through it. I also agree with you about how important it is to take care of yourself, you can't really take care of others if you don't take care of yourself.
I love your goals, I love how you have them broken down between long and short term, you have a great plan, and you can do this!!1 -

@zaraizzy Welcome Karla! You have done an amazing job this far, absolutely incredible. You're right it is hard to go it alone, and I'm glad you found your way to us!
And honestly, the best thing for a plateau is change, try making some changes with your food, with your exercise (if you can), etc. Our bodies get used to what we throw at it and eventually we will have to step up our games if we want to continue to lose, so to speak. Sometimes that means adjusting our intake, adjusting the type of food we eat, and adjusting our output, and sometimes it can help to adjust your eating schedule, going longer inbetween meals can help too.
Welcome and I hope we can help you reach your goals! Let's crush March!1 -

@paula3311 Welcome Paula! Getting yourself back is the ultimate goal! And you have to take a little time to focus on you to do it, but you WILL do it!
And don't be discouraged if you don't do everything right at the start, I wish I could drop 3 lbs a week at this stage, I very rarely do that, and they all add up and eventually you will be look back and be down 20 lbs You got this, welcome!0 -

Welcome Beth! You've come to the right place. This group offers encouraging words to motivate you, recipe and other suggestions to help you along with your weight loss goals.
I love your goals you've set for yourself and although I do not have children I can only imagine that it is difficult to manage with children. My best advice to you is plan, prep and prepare. Figure out your meals in advance if possible this way you'll have less opportunity to eat fast food on the go. Also fun & healthy to go snacks that you'll like to dtick in you bag just in case.
As for at home workouts there are a lot of free you tube workouts according to your level or free workout apps on your smartphone I like Skimble. Hope this helps1 -

Hi team! I am back. February was a hard month for me. I feel like my eating has been out of control since Valentine's Day. I will really try hard to reign it in this coming month.
I will be 41 on Monday, have 3 kids, and a husband who can lose weight at the drop of a hat.
I am determined to be in the best shape of my life before I turn 42.3 -
Hi! I’ve been part of this challenge since December. I’m a slow loser, it’s taken me since August to lose 20lbs, but this group has been super supportive and motivating!
Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m a few steps behind in every aspect of my life. Hoping that in March I’ll be able to catch up. Good luck everyone and hope you all have a great month!!3 -
Hello, I'm Cindy. I'm 56 years old and I have been overweight on and off most of my adult life. I've been in this group since November. I've lost 52 lbs since I joined MFP in October. I still have quite a ways to go....but I'm getting there. I currently work with a weight loss physician to help me set my calorie and weight loss goals.
One of my goals this month is to get in 7000 steps every day when I am at work (Monday through Thursday). On Saturday and Sunday I will ride my exercise bike at least an hour each day. Friday is my day off from everything exercise related (except for my weekly shopping trip). I was trying to walk at work AND ride my bike an hour after work every day and that just didn't work for me. I was getting too run down and tired. I've cut that down a bit. I plan to talk to my Dr. about it tomorrow.
A second goal I am going to continue working on is keeping my net carbs under 100 per day and my protein over 100. The carb part is tough for me.
Finally, I want to get out of the morbidly obese BMI range once and for all!! I'm almost there. That is my big goal for March.3 -

Hello Slimson Team Members! My name is Amy @Gadgetgirl259. I'm 54 years old. I am a returning member to MFP. I am new to these challenges with that said I love challenges to keep me motivated. I need this group for accountability. I have been on this roller coaster of weight loss since my 20's. This has to stop! I'm a pretty active person, I love being outdoors. I mostly eat whole foods, my nemesis is portion control. I have started weighing portions and logging everything again. I have excepted that is a tool I maybe be using for the rest of my life. I am looking forward to this challenge. Thank you Ashley and Gloria for organizing!

Hi Everyone!
I am pretty new to MFP and have been using it for the past two weeks and have already dropped about 5 pounds whoo! I am looking to lose at least 4-5 pounds this month, and if I lose more great!
I am 24 and am a PhD student training to be a psychologist. So between seeing clients, teaching classes, being a student and research it's been a challenge for me to find time to prep food and exercise.
As of today I weight 182.4 and am 5'4
Can't wait to start!
Happy March!
