Hello, team The Big Butt Theory! Welcome to June and a special welcome to the newcomers! Please take a moment to introduce yourselves to the team, and tell us a little bit about your goals for the month.
Hi, my name is Lisa, a long time member of team The Big Butt Theory, and I am your captain for June along with Pam, @pkg1998. I am 53, a Canadian living in Southwestern Ontario, married 27 years and have two grown sons.
Being involved with this group helps to at least keep my head above water, when I am struggling!! If you are struggling, it can help you, too. So, the more you interact, the more you will feel the team's support.
A little about this challenge.....it runs Sunday to Saturday. Post your weigh-in on this thread on your chosen weigh-in day. If you need to miss a weigh-in, let me know. If you forget to post a weigh-in, post as soon as you remember, up until Saturday evening. (I'd say Saturday at midnight, EDT, but I am not up that late!) Please post a weight even if you have gained. There is no judgement here, only support, and it happens to all of us at some point!! If you miss two weigh-ins, you will be removed from the month and will have to re-register for the next month if you wish to continue.
Yes, this is a weight loss challenge, but I would like you to think of it more as a support group. Sometimes, you can do all the right things, but the scale just doesn't move. If you have taken measurements you will be able to see that you are making progress, just not contributing to the team's weight loss. But we don't want you to despair, or leave, if this happens, thus the focus on the "support" aspect!
We are all here for the same reason....to lose weight and get healthy. Some days will go better than others....weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint, after all!! But with the support of this team, and some hard work, we can all make it to the finish line!
Have a great June everyone!!7 -
Hello again, team TBBT. The June Challenge doesn't officially start until Sunday, June 2nd, but I thought I'd give you some more information so that you can be ready to jump in with both feet! Within the main weight loss challenge we have another optional, but highly recommended, challenge. It is called the Mini Ultimate Accountability Challenge, or the Mini Challenge. It is based on another MFP challenge group by the same name, or UAC.
The way it works is simple:
1. Log everything you eat that has calories in MFP.
2. Stay inside your allotted daily calorie budget.
3. Do at least 20 minutes of activity daily. This could be anything that gets you off the couch and being active: run, walk, cycle, swim, gardening, housework, yoga, gym, etc.
4. Report each day on this thread (something to the effect of logged food: yes, under calories: yes, exercise: yes, and a brief description is nice)
****When you post your accountability, please put the date, or the day of the week to which you are referring. We are all in different time zones, and some people post in the evening for that day, and others post the next morning, so it gets confusing trying to decipher without a day or date. Thanks!!!*****
You get one free pass day a week (went over calories, could not log food, rest day, etc.) At the end of the week, if you have managed to be "accountable" (three yes's) for at least 6 of 7 days, you will be recognized on this thread as being in the Winner's Circle!
This strategy works for weight loss because it is based on CI<CO. When calories in are less than calories out, you stay inside your allotted daily calorie budget, and you will lose weight! And exercise is just good for you, plus it will burn calories and help with the calories out portion of the equation!
What's great about this challenge is that it works for everyone, as long as you are honest with yourself. There are no dietary restrictions, so you can eat whatever you like, and follow whatever plan you like. Your own daily calorie budget is set by you and MFP and you choose your own exercise and intensity of exercise! Plus it is a practice that can be carried beyond weight loss into maintenance! If you are having a bad week, a new week and a fresh start is just around the corner!
Consistency and new habits have been shown to be the keys to long term successful weight loss. Why not make the Mini Ultimate Accountability Challenge your new habit, that you do consistently!!
Week #1 for the Mini Challenge starts Sunday, June 2nd!5 -
Hi guys, my name is Danielle, I'm from south Wales, UK. I'm 28 and have 3 daughters, and a partner who works away in Germany.
I started my weight loss journey 10 months ago (just after my youngest daughter was born) I have lost 3 stone since my pre pregnancy weight but have have been yo-yo-ing from 12st7 to 11st11. Seems whenever I get under 12 stone I get excited and binge eat to celebrate -_- then once i go back up I'm good again. Hoping that this challenge will motivate me to keep at it and stop those celebratory calories should I get back down to the 11 stone range.4 -

@danielletoynton9, welcome, Danielle! I have a son who is in Germany right now, finishing up his undergraduate degree....so I understand how you feel having someone you love so far away!!
Congratulations on your successful weight loss journey thus far!! You are not the only one in this group who gets to a certain number, and then blows it, time and time again. (You know who you are!) Maybe there will be solidarity among you and the plateaus will finally be busted through! You will have to get into the habit of talking in pounds, and definitely posting your weigh-in in pounds. When you talk stones, I have no clue until I do the math conversion!!2 -
Hi everyone, my name is Alice and I live in London. This is my first challenge!
A little bit about my weight loss journey so far - 3 years ago I lost around 18 lbs going from 159 lbs to 141 lbs. Since then my weight stayed around 141, but this year has crept back up to 159.4. I’m here to get back down to my goal weight of 141 lbs!3 -

@alice90808, welcome, Alice! That nasty weight always seems to find its way back, doesn't it?! The good news is, you know how to lose it, as you've done it before!! May this be the forever time!! Is there something significant about your profile picture of tomatoes, other than they are colourful and healthy? Just curious.3 -
Hello,
I'm Megan and I live in rural Ohio, USA. I used MFP successfully a few years ago to lose my baby weight (and then some) from my first son. I have 10 pounds or so to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight from my second son, who just turned 10 months old. I am really going to try to stay on track, because most of my summer clothes are still a little small! I am good with tracking but struggle to stay within my calories, and have self-control issues with food, especially when I'm so close to goal. I'm hoping this group will help me stay accountable! Have a great month, everyone!
Also, @haswlrs, can I change my weigh in day to Fridays?4 -
Hi! I'm Jessica and I live in a suburb of Houston, TX, USA. I'm the secretary at an elementary school and my office is right next to the staff kitchen which always has food in it! While that is not the only factor in my weight gain, it certainly hasn't helped.
I lost 75lbs about 4 years ago on MFP and maintained for about 2 years. Then weight started creeping back on and has ballooned in the last 6 months so now I have to re-lose about 40lbs. Boo! The good news is I know how to do it. The bad news is now I have to do what I know Just have to find the determination I once had to keep me going when the initial motivation stops working.4 -
Hello all. My name is Mandy, I'm 37 and from northern KY, USA. I had lost 73lbs a few years ago but regained 65 of those pounds unfortunately. I've been back at it and so far lost 9.6lbs. For some reason doing this the second time around seems harder than the first so trying to do whatever I can to stay motivated and supported on this journey. Looking forward to this challenge.2

Hi guys, my name is Vi. I was on this team for a few months last year before I had to step away for personal reasons. It's been a bumpy road but I'm finally at a place where I can get back on track. I really enjoyed being a part of this team last year and am looking forward to being back and staying accountable with you all.3

Hello everyone my name is Caroline, I am from London UK and I'm 45. I have been using MFP on/off for a few years I am at my heaviest right now and would really like to lose some weight and appreciate any support and motivation I can get right now.

Hi I’m Lauren, 37. I’m excited to be starting this challenge. The weather is finally starting to remain warm in Buffalo NY now lol. Unfortunately all that fit are my tights, oops !
I’m glad for the accountability this group provides. I track everything, but haven’t been within the MFP caloric amount at all this year 🙂🎉, thanks to freezing weather and DELICIOUS carbs !! I’m open for motivation and support.

@jrh_this_better_work, welcome, Jessica! Like you said, you know how to lose weight, so now just do it!! Sounds simple, right? Hopefully we can help keep you motivated, when self motivation wanes!!1 -

@mirendybryant, there seems to be a theme among our newcomers of losing, regaining, and now trying to lose again!! So, the good news is you are not alone!! Hopefully we can all encourage and support each other to reach our goals!!2 -

Hi Jessica! I work in guidance in a high school, and my office is just across the hallway from the staff dining area. I totally feel you, it's tough!1 -

@LMK02020, welcome, Lauren!! We are not that far from each other (around a two hour drive to the border) so I know exactly the weather you are referring to!! I can also relate to nothing fitting except yoga pants! The good news for you is that you know how to log your food. That is a skill that eludes and frustrates some people to the point of giving up. Now you just have to think of it as a bank account....you can't spend funds, or calories, you don't have in the bank!!!3 -
What a magnificent analogy with the bank account! Thanks ! It is beautiful over the border to Canada 🇨🇦!3

Hello everyone -
I am not even sure where to begin. I am so glad to see I am NOT alone in the lose/regain/want to lose again journey. I am hoping that joining here will help me stay accountable. Not sure if I can do the tracking everyday but is something I will work toward making a habit/routine.
A bit about me - I am mom to 3.. one grown (not flown), one in college (sports player so on the road a lot in the fall to watch) and one in high school (another sports player but alas has had some serious injuries that kept him down for almost 2 years) **part of the stress eating that helped me do that regain! We are one year out of cleared and though we were home free until this weekend when the injury bug reached out and grabbed him again so hoping for good news next two weeks as I have a second opinion scheduled even before he sees his regular doc (haha -- not playing this time if we can help it!) In addition, last fall my mom was fully and finally diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and I spent most of the fall traveling several hours to and from to see her in the hospital and her temporary nursing home. She is now (thankfully) 10 minutes away from me and I get to visit in my "normal outing" life. It is still hard as I am her "chosen one" that can do anything and sometimes the only one she will let shower/clean her up with ease. (not even dad, siblings or the nursing staff --- I drew the lucky straw!) Please don't take it as a complaint because I would never complain about being useful and doing whatever she needs to have done... it just makes it hard sometimes and again - another of those stress eating events that helped the regain! I have a gym membership and was gung ho on going until the tax season hit (and I started a PT job for the first time working in many many years **which turned into more like a FT job even though I made my own hours) so that ended mid April and it was about that time that I hurt my back and was down with that for 8 weeks. Yep - another stress eating event!
So - enough about my excuses! So starting Monday (its Friday here now) I plan to jump back full force into the gym... along with getting back on my bike and taking in some trails now that the weather is warm (don't mind warm/hot - hate cold to bike in!) Hubby also informed me he wants to try to eat better / healthier so that is going to be a plus when I can wrap that around my grocery list and meal planning self! I have small short term goals like feeling better and fitting into some of last years shorts (so no new huge wardrobe needed to be purchased) I want to feel better and enjoy the summer. My first "bigger" goal is to get into ONEderland… once that happens, I really am going to try to NEVER leave there again!
I did the Amazing Race challenges for years and loved the weekly need for accountability along with the different activities / challenges that I would have never thought to try. I am hoping to have that same feeling here and am looking forward to this journey with all of you..6 -

@sandkp, welcome! It's great to join up with you again in a challenge! This BL Challenge has a completely different feel to it from the AR Challenge of days past. This really is more of a support group, with weekly and end of month shout outs to those individuals who did well. I hope you will not be disappointed! That being said, if you, or anyone, would like to introduce physical or other kinds of weekly challenges into the mix I would be happy to oversee!
Your paragraph of "excuses" (your word!) is very long, but you followed it up nicely with your plans on how to overcome.....the gym, the bike, the trails and you and your husband's joint desire to start eating better and healthier. Wishing you nothing but success on your journey!!3 -
Hi Everyone! I'm carrying over from May Welcome aboard new folks!
Goals for my month:
- 24 hours of fitness (broken into categories: Swim, c25k, walking, yoga/other, planks) I hit 17 last month and it was a little too easy. This month is more of a doable challenge.
- Hit my first 5% loss goal by the end of the month
- Tracking every day
- First 5k is tomorrow
- Do my first set of measurements today
- hit the winners circle for the mini challenge 2 times this month
Alllllright alright alright! Have a good month all5 -
Happy first of June, team The Big Butt Theory!! The June Challenge starts tomorrow....are you ready??!! It's time to come up with a plan for success...that means meal planning and exercise planning!! And the start of a new month is a great time to get rid of bad habits and begin introducing some better ones. Let's do it!!3

***I am reposting this from the May thread for the benefit of all the new team mates.
I don't know why I have been so hesitant to share, but I am having a great week! Maybe it's because, recently, when I have had a good week, I was never able to follow it up. But it's June now....something about May being over (our longest and busiest month in our farm supply business) that makes me feel optimistic! I have logged my food and been under every day this week except Monday. And every day except Monday I have done some exercise in the form of walking. Monday was an interesting day. I went to a women's house to pick up some chickens that we "won" in a silent auction. I know her a bit from curling. She is about my age (it's hard to tell), but she does triathlons. And she and her husband farm, and she bakes every day and she's in great shape, and her updated farmhouse kitchen was gorgeous, and her property was idyllic, and I thought about how much I wanted to be like her. (Even though her property was very beautiful, I am still not convinced I want to live in the country!) The only difference between her and I is that she works hard everyday to have the life that she wants and I don't. Plain and simple. If I worked towards my goals I would achieve my goals!! It was like a light bulb went on and I could see my future. I've been happier this week than I have been in a long time. Hopefully I haven't jinxed it by saying it out loud, but I did want to share!!4 -

Finding people like you did is such a learning moment and a blessing. I am so happy for you! What a good week! I journal those moments and try to reflect on them when I fall down on my goals and habits. But yeah excellent way to both end May and begin June ❤️3 -
I can't believe the 1st day of June is already over 😳 the time is flying. I had a good day today. Finished out under my calories with the help of active calories. We had a bbq with family while the kids were swimming. I got in 15,148 steps today. I can't do many exercises bc of a bad knee and back so I push myself to do as much walking 🚶 as I can everyday. Hope everyone else had a great start to this June. If anyone follows Instagram I try to keep myself on track 👣 with posts of my journey on there. It's a way for me to kind of document things for me to look back on but also if I can inspire someone else at the same time...that would be amazing. My Insta username is Mandy_tries_again.6

Welcome new and old friends. Sorry in advance for the “wall of text”
37 yrs old and married with no kids and the best cat. Live in NJ and work in the beer industry, which you can imagine really helps with weight loss....
12 years ago I lost around 60+ lbs and gradually I gained it all back. December 2017 I was back at my highest weight and had enough. I lost about 30 lbs over the next 8 months then I hit a wall. Wasn’t losing or gaining, then the holidays came and I put about 10 lbs back on. Lost all motivation for awhile until March when I decided to start intermittent fasting and gained my motivation back. I’ve lost an average of 1 lb a week since I started IF.
Now the tough part. I am in for a rough summer with my job. I have stayed on top of my diet so far but have lost the push to get to the gym. The Vice President of my company put me in charge of his son for a summer job - which means the Vice President checks in on me EVERY DAY. I’m working much longer days and am stressed beyond what I can actually explain. I actually have a countdown for how many days are left until he goes back to school...
I thought about quitting this group for the summer but I know that won’t help with my weight loss goals. I will try my hardest and hope I dont let the group down7
