HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, and at the end of the week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
If you need a week off, a break, a change of weigh-in day - just ask your Captain here on your team chat page. If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team.
In addition to your own team, there are F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the “Announcements” section for full group challenges.
This month, we have a Green January Challenge. We want every single person here to stay “in the green”. Losses appear in green on our spreadsheet, and that is what we want to see! 100% of us losing in January. Every week. Even if it is only a small amount. We can do it!
Let’s make our new challengers feel welcome and show them some F2F love!! Introduce yourselves, and let the new month begin.
THANKS!

Greetings Team WaistAways!
Here we are in 2020, with many new members and a lot of great new energy. Let's try not to have any of those statistics this month. You know the ones I mean - make a great start, drop out by the end of the month, blah blah blah. We are going to have Green January, and we are ALL going to lose or maintain. No red numbers in the spreadsheet!
First things first. Introductions. Some people have posted theirs in the December thread, but feel free to re-post and update. Something about your who, where, why are you here, and what are your goals. And then keep posting every day! Even if it is just a short update - what is going well, what isn't - the more you post, the more you stay involved, and you get answers to questions, cool ideas that someone else tried, and you can share your ideas too. And of course, weigh in on time on the day you chose!
My intro -
I'm Liselyn, living in rural Québec, about 145 km (85 miles) east of Montreal. I am a musician, and retired university music prof, happy not to be dragging off to Montreal to work to sit too much at a desk in admin positions as I did in my last years there. I have a 27 year-old daughter in the Canadian Army, and a 23 year-old son who works locally. They are both so in shape they hold my feet to the fire!! I finally got serious about losing weight and getting in shape about 8 years ago. I was the heaviest I had ever been, was having aches and pains while playing, and just generally felt horrible. I had tried for a few years to get at it, but kept slipping back. So I had a 6 month leave in January 2012, my husband was having knee replacement surgeries (one in January, one in March), and I decided this was IT. By the time I went back to work I had lost about 25 of the 40 pounds I needed to lose, and made it to goal by November. It was hard but felt so great! I thank my trainers (at the university gym), my son (relentless pest and great gym buddy), and MFP.
After getting there, though, sometimes maintenance was not going well. I finally found this challenge when I had started putting weight back on, and it has really worked for me. Since retiring, especially, I did not have the community at the gym and at work any more. I have lost what I re-gained, and now will chip away at the last 5 pounds my doc would love me to lose. Getting there!
You'll hear ad nauseum how much I love snow and snowshoeing, how my co-captain @micki48 introduced me to Pilates a few months ago and now I'm addicted, and I hope I can support all of you in your journey to join me here in maintenance land. It is not much different here! I still track, keep vigilant, and refuse to ever go back. I'm only 5 feet and a bit tall, so every pound shows. Don't worry if it is SLOW, don't worry if you have ups and downs, learn to love your plateaus (where you body takes a minute to get used to a new normal and stops fighting change), and most of all, stick with it. I'll be 66 this month, feeling stronger and better than 10 years ago, so if I can do it, you can too!5 -
Hi everyone!
I'm so excited to be here! I'm Chivonne, and I live in Indiana. I'm a wife, mom of 2 ( girl 14, boy 7), full time student, and work crazy hours lol Somehow I lost myself along the way and packed on too many pounds than I can handle. It's so easy to just grab something to eat on the way home from work, school, or even just dropping off the kiddos. I found myself eating fast food sometimes 2-3x/day and boy am I paying for it now
I found MVP in 2012 right after giving birth to my son and it worked so well for me. My goal is to get back on track, cut out the sugar, exercise daily, and increase my water intake. I'm really bad with drinking everything except water lol I would love to get back into the swing of things with logging everyday BUT my main goal that I'm focusing on at the moment is to get back into the habit of exercising on a regular basis.
This coming May I will graduate and hold the title as a Registered Respiratory Therapist! I've worked so HARD to get this far as this is a very difficult program to finish. I WILL walk across that stage with a slimmer waist and face!
We can do this team WaistAways...LET'S MAKE THIS MONTH GREEN!!!7 -
Hello all, I'm Amber from the midst of the Canadian prairie. Like most of us, I am used to 7 months of winter and no matter how impaired I am I can line dance perfectly on command.
I got scared of how big I was getting, found MFP at the end of March 2019, and have lost around 70 pounds since, with the last 50 hopefully coming off by the end of 2020. I've been hitting the gym since August, but get a bunch of my fitness through video games. My husband and I are avid gamers. I have zero kids, zero siblings, and the world's sweetest rescue cat.
I'm an inherently lazy person who eats a lot of chocolate, and I'm telling you that if I can do this, you can do this. As one of this team's motivators and a fan of self improvement I am happy to provide encouragement, love, tough love, advice and whole hearted support to absolutely anyone who wants it.
The slowest, most out of shape person at the gym is still lapping the person on the couch.10 -
Hello my name is Diana and I live in Wisconsin. Married, no kids, 3 fur babies. I work in healthcare and can have crazy hours which can make it difficult to eat even when I have prepped my meals and brought them to work with me. And then I always make the excuse that I am too tired to workout after work. My goal is to go to the gym and get my workout in before work on most of my days.
Two and a half years ago I lost 30 lbs with an online trainer so I know I can do it again. He had me eating a good amount of food, I was in the gym 5 days a week and also doing Taekwondo. I was consistent with my diet and working out.
2019 was really rough. April I was diagnosed with an extensive blood clot in my brain. I was in neuro ICU for a week. At that time I also had a miscarriage. I was started on blood thinners which I am still on. It took a couple of months for me to be able to be physically active without having any symptoms. Felt sorry for myself for a while. Ate like crap. Gained back about 15 lbs. Have tried a coulple of times to get back on track with my diet and workouts but have failed.
Joined this group to help with my motivation and accountability. Excited to be a part of a group where we all have similar goals.7 -
I chose Friday to be my weigh in day. This morning I was 161.7lbs.3

Hello -
I am Julie from Southern California. Mother to 5 wonderful kids (youngest 16) and Grandma 2 beautiful grandchildren. Been thin my whole life. Gained 10 Lbs with each kid. Not blaming them - just a fact. Thank goodness did not gain with the grandkids.
Self employed with my husband. We have ran an auto glass Company for the past 25 years. Have gone through the ups and downs with the economy. Lost everything and restarted. Not a quitter.
My health has been good so far - but my husband has had many challenges. Over 15 out patient surgeries since we have been married for the past 28 years. From his nose down to his feet. 2018 was a big scare - he had a massive heart attack while out in the middle of the desert. Drove himself to the hospital. He was the talked of the hospital that day. The Cardiologist on call was simply amazed. Classic Widow maker he said. Not his time and I am so grateful! This year we are hoping to get his 2 knees replaced. Feb for the first one and we will see about the 2nd one.
I am a stress eater. In the mornings I am determined but by the afternoon I will eat whatever looks easy to grab. Very determined that this is the year to lose the weight. Need to keep up with all my active kids.

Just me loving the intros. Keep 'em coming!3

Hi! I'm Michele from North Carolina, previously New Jersey. I am the mother of two grown children (my oldest turned 32 today) and the proud Mom Mom of one adorable granddaughter. I was an elementary teacher for over 20 years, but now watch my sweet granddaughter during the week.
I have been part of this group since February and now I am co-captain with @jugar Liselyn. I run the step challenge which is a group of us who turn in our daily steps. At the end of the week, we announce winners and how far we've walked. I will post more on that shortly. Keep it in mind if you are interested. It is a great way to increase your activity and it's a well known fact that some of our biggest losers are those with the highest number of steps. Now, that is not to say that you shouldn't join us if you are just getting moving. You are only try to better yourself. So, any increase in activity is great.
I have lost about 22ish pounds this past year. I have had two long plateaus and I can tell you, there is something to learn from losing and plateauing. Being part of this group has given me the motivation and support to keep going. This past year, with the Waistaways, I was able to keep my commitment to fitness and health. You can too. So, glad you are all here with us. Let's go Waistaways.
Oh and our teammates, @AmyRobF and @robertefortier536 are my youngest niece and her husband.6 -
Hi all,
I am a mom from Ca and have always run a bit larger. Not too unhealthy, but definitely always teetered on the brink of it. Each year I loose about 10 lbs in January and by December, it is all back on again. My goal is to start next January 10 lbs lighter than now y implementing healthy habits that become a lifestyle. I am looking forward to the accountability of this group. I feel like I owe the group good eating choices. It is good to have some people out there cheering me on and making me report back. Cheers!6 -

@lovethyneighbor 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼Kudos to you! What an awesome loss. Great going. 🎉2 -
Hi, I’m Darcy. I live in Wisconsin, am a wife and mom of 2 spirited girls ( ages 8&4). I have always struggled with my weight but more so as I have gotten older. I have been using MFP for several years and have found success when I consistently log my food. My biggest barrier to reaching my goals is being inconsistent with logging my food and staying motivated. I am hoping and looking forward to working with you guys to achieve my goals🙂7

Hello! I posted my intro in December, but in case you missed it. I am Kelly. I am a mother of 4- ages 15, 9, 3, and 4months. Yes, I an nursing one baby and teaching another to drive. I teach Kindergarten and have enjoyed the last 2 weeks off. I had lost all the baby weight from #4 in November but have since gained back 3. I was carrying an extra 20 pounds before I got pregnant so I am hoping to lose all of that this year. I do Beachbody on Demand workouts because I love the variety and it is easy for me to do at. I try to get in 5 workouts a week. Working out helps with my stress level so I try to make it a priority. Good luck everyone!9

I posted in December, a few days ago, a really long intro so I’m going to modify this one a bit.
Hi. My name is Sarah. I am 37, married with two kids, 10 and 7. I was told I would never be able to have kids. I have PCOS, Hypothyroidism, and Fibromyalgia. I feel like this list gets longer everyday with new aches and pains. I have not moved comfortably without pain for the last 12 years. I am at my highest weight ever. 5’9 218 (currently at 212.6 as of 1/4/2020).
1st goal: 199
2nd: 185
3rd: 170
I don’t know if I will hit these goals. Yes 170 is still obese for my height but I can see this easier than a lower number. I have tried multiple times and go back to old eating habits. However this time I feel something different ignited within my sole. For the first time ever I feel a tiny bit of willpower that I have never had before. I am determined to try this time.
I never have a routine bc our lives are busy with baseball (we coach our sons team), school, 4-H, work and classes.
I was a stay at home mom for 9 years until our youngest went to school. Out of the blue I received a phone call to go into the workforce. It has been a difficult adjustment trying to manage my time at home and also adjusting to the sedentary lifestyle.
As a stay at home mom = 20,000+ steps a day, running regularly and went to workout class regularly.
Now working at a desk computer all day, the day light disappears before I get home= 4,500 topped out by bedtime.
I desperately need the accountability. I actually rely on it. Without an accountability partner, I tend to lose interest.
My HIIT class is held two days a week. As the weather warms coach will increase by adding a running day.
I am 80 lbs heavier than when I married. I know I will never get back down to where I was, and I am okay with that. I have learned to love myself again. Deeply and truly. Realizing this has been my turning point and confidence to move forward to a new statement of commitment to myself and to the work needed. I will still need accountability, so let me be honest...I LOVE FOOD. Please help keep me accountable and any ladies who don’t mind an extra friend, please friend request me.
I think this has been the most responsive, uplifting group I have ever been in and I am looking forward to this journey with all of you.6 -
Hi!
My name is Kristi and I am 37. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 12 years and we have 3 kids ages 10, 8 and 5. I have been an occupational therapist for 15 years and have spent almost all of my years working for the school system. Currently I work with a team of 4 therapists. My building is a large preschool center serving just over 400 students. Sooo...I can get pretty sore out during the week after spending all day with littles and coming home to my own kids who need attention too.😊
I started my weight loss journey in February 2019 with a start weight of 255. Currently I weight 227 and fingers crossed just broke a 4 month plateau 🤞😬🤞. I love food, being creative in the kitchen and cooking. For the most part, food is an area of strength for me. My weaknesses are not exercising regularly, laying on the couch at night, over eating late night snacks with my husband and using exercise to justify over indulging. I'm working on progress over perfection. I'm trying to be kind to myself by letting things go, allowing myself to move forward when I slip up and focusing on grace instead of guilt. My main mantra that helps me calm down when I'm freaking out is "weight loss takes time and that's okay".
My goals are:
Log everything daily
Check in here daily
Exercise 4-5 days a week
Meditate daily
My big long term goal is to weigh 150 and be healthy and fit enough to keep up with my active family mountain biking, hiking, dog walking, snowshoeing, swimming, paddling, kayaking, fishing and camping!
Looking forward to working with everyone. I love working with a team!5 -

CW 349.....I'm having to estimate. I've been out of town since Thursday with no access to a scale. The holidays have been TOO good in the weight department. But it's a new month, year, and decade.
Welcome to all of our new members! So nice to have you join us. Is there anyone here needing to lose 100+ lbs like me? We definitely have to stay committed for the long haul. Personally, I'm breaking down my goal into 50 lb increments. However we do it, we got this y'all! 😃7 -
Hi Waistaways!👋🏼 Are you ready to make 2020 your best year yet?
Then help make that a reality by joining our Step Challenge. This challenge is among our team only (for now). All you have to do is let me know you want to participate, tell me what your daily goal is (mine is 8,000 steps), then report your steps to me right here on our January thread each day.
At the end of the week, I will give a report of total team steps and our top steppers. We even pretend our steps have taken us to fabulous places.
Please have all your steps in by 2pm Sunday ET. It is more motivating to see people’s steps coming in, so if it works for you to post daily, please do. Just be sure to include the word “steps”. Everyone is welcome and no worries if you’re just starting out. The point is for you to improve your steps.
So whether you look like the first photo or last, join the team. You won’t be sorry. 👣💪🏼😀

And besides. If you step like this - you get double for every step. Really. It's a thing - just go ask John Cleese.

It is good to see you @evangsimmons170 ! Yep, it is a new month, year, and decade. One of the most inspiring people I have ever known is the F2F group founder - Maricela Moulin. She lost more than half her body weight (from over 330 to under 160), and has now been going through skin reduction surgeries, raising a family of adorable boys, building a new house, living in a new country - she is SERIOUSLY inspiring. She is smart, articulate, and full of sass. I think our own motivator @evangsimmons170 could become one of those people who can inspire you to reach goals as epic as those. And in the meantime, to love yourself as much as Lizzo, to get in shape no matter what, and to think and write and be an inspiration, whether you make it to those weight loss goals or not. I'm not kidding.
So stand by. I think we have something awesome going here.6 -
Steps today: 3,800
I’m wiped out tonight from a few very challenging massage clients. Whew! Good thing I made my food plan while driving home and talked myself out of stopping at the grocery store. That rotisserie chicken would’ve been way too tempting! The pizza place was too crowded to stop at too, so that was lucky.
I’ll write more tomorrow.
Sleep well everyone!4 -
