HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Username:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you take a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or are moved to the Support Team for longer. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month and year begin!!

Hi all and welcome to the Downsizers February team chat! My name is Linda and I am one of the team captains. My counterpart is the amazing Megan aka @Megan_smartiepants1970. Our two motivators are @peng123 and @MeowScout . We are all here to help.
I am originally from Newfoundland but I live in Southwestern Ontario. I am 57 years old, married, retired due to a disability and have 3 adult children. I also have 4 beautiful granddaughters. Two live here in Ontario and the other two in Scotland. My granddaughters are one of my reasons for trying to get healthy. I have two very fat cats, Nick and Lady.
Three years ago I started my weight loss in February and I have been with this group since the beginning. I have struggled a bit lately but February will be my month. I count calories and for exercise I swim.
February goals
1. Close the rings on my Apple Watch daily
2. Reach my step goal
3. Log my food
4. Swim minimum 800 laps for the month2 -

Good morning, my name is John Scott. I am new to the group. I am from Virginia born and raised. I was a part of this challenge a couple years ago, and wanted to rejoin to achieve my weight loss goals. I am also a new author. I recently published a poem book on Amazon called Cut From A Different Kente, so I am excited about that. My goal is to lose 10-15 lbs, and am looking forward to getting to know everyone.3

My name is Jean. I spent a lot of years taking care of everyone but me. I am working hard to change that mindset and put my needs, if not first, at least at a higher level.
My highest weight was around 300 and I am currently at 247.7 for a February starting weight. January went quite well for me. I got back into a regular walking routine and started a regular Zumba workout routine. I also began to build up some endurance to start rowing on the days I can’t get outside to walk. I logged everyday which is key for me to lose weight, came in under my allowed calories everyday and only had 3 diet cokes during the month. So all my habit tracker goals are checked off for January.
For February I would like my goals to be walk and/or row 6 times per week, Zumba 6 times per week, log everyday, meet my Fitbit move goal at 10 hours per day and drink at least 64 oz of water per day.
I would like to lose 4 pounds per month. My goal for 2022 is to be below 210 by the end of the year. My stretch goal would be to be below 200 by year end.
@Megan_smartiepants1970
I would like to increase my daily step goal for the step challenge to 6,000 per day.2 -

Hi I am Deb, a 58 year old divorced woman in Iowa and a kidney pancreas transplant recipient. As a child I was the tallest, heaviest child in my class until junior high. Was an introvert but an excellent student and never fit into any social group. Lost 40 pounds between 7th and 8th grades but still 10 pounds over healthy weight. Gained weight my junior/senior years of college when developed depression. Diagnosed as a diabetic when 26 and told that I must be type 2 because too old to be type 1. Developed extensive nerve damage to the point that have autonomous nerve damage and lost my right eye and kidneys. At two points in my life was blind and taking braille living skill classes. Convinced opthmalogist to remove cataract in my remaining eye and now blessed with enough sight to drive and take care of myself. Lost kidneys in 2005 and was on dialysis until 2009, when receivedca kidney/pancreas transplant. Returned to college and lost 93 pounds through exercise and loose calorie counting. Met my fiance in 2012. We were together until he died on a ventilator of covid in December of 2020. Had gained a lot of happy weight with my fiance and became very unhappy in March 2020. Covid had arrived in my area and I realized that I would have a poor outcome if caught it so decided that lose weight. Have lost 84 pounds since March 2020. Would like to lose 6 more pounds. In the meantime have roughly maintained weight from last April to present and am booking consultations with plastic surgeons to discuss if tummy tuck or lower body lift would be the best treatment path for me.5

Hi everybody! I'm Jodi, 53 years, and live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
I've been overweight my entire life - no kidding, I have some old home video where someone's talking about what a fat baby I am. My highest weight ever was about 245lbs and that was about 15 years ago. Over a few years, using low-carb, exercise, and calorie counting I was down to 145-150 and felt pretty great - in 2015 I completed a half-marathon (some running but mostly walking ).
Then, my work became increasingly stressful (still happening), I started playing video games again (I kinda like video games, heh), and the weight has crept back on until I was 202lbs on August 1, 2021 and was being ruled by my binge eating disorder (BED).
In August I started some mindfulness/meditation practices and reading a lot about cognitive behavioral therapy. I'm working on myself every day. I'm counting calories and focusing on things that help me be calm and make me happy.
I'm currently at about 164lbs with an ultimate goal of getting back down to 145-150lbs. I'm coming from last month with the Downsizers - Woot! Go team! - and feeling motivated moving into February.
My goals are:
* 120 oz or more of water (I include tea) every day
* Net carbs at 35 or under, 6 days a week
* 10,000 steps per day, 6 days a week
* log all food with a calorie goal of under 8500/week (I like to look at the week, it gives me some flex)
* lose 6+lbs by March 1
I'm looking forward to hearing more about you all!
@Megan_smartiepants1970, please include me in the step challenge again! Is it possible to have it be at 10K per day for 6 days a week? I feel like I just need a day off every week. If not, no biggie, just put me down for 10K and thank you!

Hello team!
My name is Mari. I’m 42 years old and a mom to 3 boys boys and married to a workaholic. 😂 I have been a part of this group on and off since it was created. I’ve been in this journey for what feels like my entire life but truly buckled down in January 2016. I started at my highest weight is 338.8 Lbs. I lost the first 70 Lbs on my own then got the help to lose much more with weight loss surgery. I got down to 164 Lbs back in March 2019. Since then I have started skin removal surgeries ( about 1 a year since) and my weight has slowly been climbing since. I’ve gained 55 Lbs of what I lost. I have been trying to get my weight gain To stop and back to losing it again. It’s so much harder the second time around. I am currently at 216 Lbs. My main goal is to get back under the 200 mark and make new goals from there.
I am on this journey because I wanted to get fit and healthy for my family. I didn’t want to become a burden for them and I was feeling guilty that I couldn’t play with my kids because I would be out of breath as soon as I got up.
My triggers are any kind of salty snacks. I do quite a bit of mindless eating and if there are snacks at hands reach I will definitely be eating them. I avoid buying them to keep me from eating them. Also having nothing to do is a trigger. If I keep busy I tend to eat at the right times and much healthier.
I’ve recently started counting calories again am logging my foods on MFP. I have to admit this has been the best way for me to keep my weight loss going. It’s what has worked best. But at the moment I’m trying to change my bad habits one at a time. I am also doing IF. I did it regularly in January and plan on continuing this month. I’m doing 16/8 at least 5/7 days a week. I don’t do it on my rest days.
I LOVE working out. I have my own home gym set up that I use at least 5 days a week. I have discovered I enjoy running and strength training.
💪🏻♥️👍🏻5 -
Happy Sunday, Downsizers! Here is my check-in for the day:
1/29:
Calories: 1,152
Exercise: 70 minutes elliptical, 20 minutes knee exercises and stretching
Steps: 10,390
I have had family and friends over for the weekend - and the table has been full of tempting treats - I'm pleased to report that I stayed within my calorie range every day - if it hasn't been pre-planned, it doesn't go into my stomach - always a NSV for me! I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!7 -
It's a new week, Downsizers! We have a fun activity planned for this week that I hope you will all enjoy: We all know that what we eat is one of the biggest factors in our weight loss. Sometimes it's difficult to find things to eat that are healthy and still tasty and interesting. So, this week, let's share our favorite recipes and/or places where we can find new and exciting things to prepare. I'll start us off:
One of my favorite websites to find healthy, delicious things to cook is skinnytaste.com. I prepare at least one or two of the recipes each week. Here are two of my favorite recipes on the site:
If you like Indian cuisine, give this a try - it's delicious and the serving sizes are BIG:
https://www.skinnytaste.com/cauliflower-rice-chicken-biryani/
I love this pasta dish - it comes together quickly so it's perfect for making during the week:
https://www.skinnytaste.com/orecchiette-pasta-with-chicken-sausage/
I'm looking forward to getting some ideas from all of you this week!

Awesome loss! That is so good you tamed the binge eating. I did therapy for my binge eating disorder 3 years ago. I understand eating to the point you feel sick. Even with my therapy it still rears it’s ugly head. Usually this happens when I am stressed. My focus this month is to chop the head off. You are so insightful with your eating. I like the way to talk to yourself. I like the idea of having a party in my head. I also wrote down your thought from the other day so I can use it.
Linda, thank you for your kind words! I've worked (and continue working) really hard on it. I too realized that stress was a huge factor in my binging. I started reading about cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt) and working in some of those techniques and for stress, I started listening to this podcast called 10% Happier - it is fantastic! If you ever do podcasts, I couldn't recommend it more.
I am going to try the podcast. I have done cbt for different things over the years. I am going to be starting it for a pain management technique. We are just trying to find the right therapist.2 -

@Beautyofdreams
Deb, every time I read your introduction I am in awe of you. You have overcome so much but continue to work on getting heathy. I am excited to watch you reach goal soon.
@JodiSW
You have really motivated me the last week. I am going to implement some of your strategies to get my binge eating under control. I am going to start listening to the podcast tomorrow. Thanks for inspiring me.4 -
@rwood566
Your walking is awesome! Maybe you are burning more calories shivering in the cold.
@mari_moulin
Thank you for starting this group. Without it I would have gained back all my weight plus some. Mindless snacking gets me when my grandkids are around. I bought them a big bag of Cadbury min eggs and I kept grabbing a few when I walked past. So it must be hard when you have to keep snacks for 3 boys. Do you have strategies for that?
@peng123
That is a fantastic NSV. Great job on the exercise and thanks for planning the activity.2 -

Ooo I'll take a look at these, could come in handy for weekends going forward.
Some suggestions that come to my mind at the mo would be:
Livthepostivefooodie on Instagram (where I found the 2 ingredient pizza dough recipes)
Pinch of Nom books
--
Other note, I've been invited out for Sunday Roast Dinner this afternoon. I was hesitant, but had a word with myself that despite won't know cals and chance of increased salt from the meat and gravy, the meal will be mostly vegetables so isn't really that bad.3
