Granddaughters were over last night. My eating was slightly over calories as we had Tim Hortons for lunch and subway for supper. With sports and restaurants opening tomorrow they will be busy so they won’t be over every weekend anymore. Having them over every weekend was one bright light of lockdown. Anyway, I am excited about the new month. Pool here I come. 🏊♂️

It's a new week, Downsizers! We have a fun activity planned for this week that I hope you will all enjoy: We all know that what we eat is one of the biggest factors in our weight loss. Sometimes it's difficult to find things to eat that are healthy and still tasty and interesting. So, this week, let's share our favorite recipes and/or places where we can find new and exciting things to prepare. I'll start us off:
One of my favorite websites to find healthy, delicious things to cook is skinnytaste.com. I prepare at least one or two of the recipes each week. Here are two of my favorite recipes on the site:
If you like Indian cuisine, give this a try - it's delicious and the serving sizes are BIG:
https://www.skinnytaste.com/cauliflower-rice-chicken-biryani/
I love this pasta dish - it comes together quickly so it's perfect for making during the week:
https://www.skinnytaste.com/orecchiette-pasta-with-chicken-sausage/
I'm looking forward to getting some ideas from all of you this week!
Cara
Ooo I'll take a look at these, could come in handy for weekends going forward.
Some suggestions that come to my mind at the mo would be:
Livthepostivefooodie on Instagram (where I found the 2 ingredient pizza dough recipes)
Pinch of Nom books
--
Other note, I've been invited out for Sunday Roast Dinner this afternoon. I was hesitant, but had a word with myself that despite won't know cals and chance of increased salt from the meat and gravy, the meal will be mostly vegetables so isn't really that bad.
You got this! Make most of your plate veggies.3 -

We ordered to collect and takeaway so food was given by restaurant so didn't have ability to control those aspects unfortunately. Brought the meal home and I've had to leave half of it for now as feeling full so will have rest for dinnertime. Definitely feel the difference eating bigger meals even if mainly veg!
I think the only aspect that will bite me in the backside is mainly the gravy and stuffing.1 -

Thank you for starting this group. Without it I would have gained back all my weight plus some. Mindless snacking gets me when my grandkids are around. I bought them a big bag of Cadbury min eggs and I kept grabbing a few when I walked past. So it must be hard when you have to keep snacks for 3 boys. Do you have strategies for that?
I’m really struggling with the snacking recently. Usually brushing my teeth or a sugar free gum does the trick. I don’t know why these last few days have been so hard for me. I’m always thinking of food or what I’m gonna eat next. 🤦🏻♀️2 -

We have completed another month, folks! We really knocked it out of the park in January - let's try to keep up the momentum for February! Click the links below to see our results from the last week of January and the month overall.
Here's a sneak peak of how your team did...3 -

I've been overweight my entire life - no kidding, I have some old home video where someone's talking about what a fat baby I am. My highest weight ever was about 245lbs and that was about 15 years ago. Over a few years, using low-carb, exercise, and calorie counting I was down to 145-150 and felt pretty great - in 2015 I completed a half-marathon (some running but mostly walking ).
Then, my work became increasingly stressful (still happening), I started playing video games again (I kinda like video games, heh), and the weight has crept back on until I was 202lbs on August 1, 2021 and was being ruled by my binge eating disorder (BED).
In August I started some mindfulness/meditation practices and reading a lot about cognitive behavioral therapy. I'm working on myself every day. I'm counting calories and focusing on things that help me be calm and make me happy.
I'm currently at about 164lbs with an ultimate goal of getting back down to 145-150lbs. I'm coming from last month with the Downsizers - Woot! Go team! - and feeling motivated moving into February.
My goals are:
* 120 oz or more of water (I include tea) every day
* Net carbs at 35 or under, 6 days a week
* 10,000 steps per day, 6 days a week
* log all food with a calorie goal of under 8500/week (I like to look at the week, it gives me some flex)
* lose 6+lbs by March 1
I'm looking forward to hearing more about you all!
@Megan_smartiepants1970, please include me in the step challenge again! Is it possible to have it be at 10K per day for 6 days a week? I feel like I just need a day off every week. If not, no biggie, just put me down for 10K and thank you!
Absolutely just tell me what day you would like to take a day off I will just put a zero on the day you choose
Yay! Sunday please. I most always just lounge around on Sundays.1 -

Happy Sunday, Downsizers! Here is my check-in for the day:
1/29:
Calories: 1,152
Exercise: 70 minutes elliptical, 20 minutes knee exercises and stretching
Steps: 10,390
I have had family and friends over for the weekend - and the table has been full of tempting treats - I'm pleased to report that I stayed within my calorie range every day - if it hasn't been pre-planned, it doesn't go into my stomach - always a NSV for me! I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!
This is something I'm working on too - just trying to stay within my range, even when confronted with the unexpected!

Here's a sneak peak of how your team did...
Oh wow thank you so much for this I really needed to see this. I've been bitching and moaning about how badly I've been doing in Jan and then went back through my records and saw that even with my ups and downs I lost a total of 8.8 lbs in Jan and I thought I was doing really badly! That's why being in this group is so helpful to keep some perspective and it really helps to see the percentage of how much I've lost in the month. Thank you so much each and every one of you I couldn't do it without your support.3 -
Intro time:
Some of you already know me. I'm 44 yr old female, I live in South Australia with my partner and 4 British Bulldogs. My heaviest weight was 242 lbs when I decided to get a lap band (years ago now), that got me down to 209lbs but I didn't really change my eating habits at all. Late last year I ended up in hospital in severe pain with what ended up being fatty liver disease and that ended up finally being the scare I needed to get serious. So I joined MFP starting at 205lbs in mid Oct 2021 and even though it's been tough as buggery I've actually seen a lot of progress for the first time in my life I've actually started losing weight consistently. My starting weight for Feb is 181.4lbs and my first target weight is around 154 lbs.
This group has been a huge part of that. I have chronic depression and I find it very easy to get stuck in vicious downward spirals which manifest in "who cares, nothing matters anyway" and leads to binge eating. Being able to read all the wonderful stories here and the lovely comments of encouragement really helps pull me out of that.
I work in an office 8 hours a day and have a 1 hour commute each way, so getting my steps in can sometimes be tricky especially since I'm just so tired when I get home. I have lots of lovely exercise programs saved on FitOn but rarely get the energy to do them. I finally realised yesterday that instead of sitting down watching TV all day I should at the very least stand up and dance around in the background while I was watching so at least I kept moving, got my steps up and kind of cheated myself into doing some exercise while still making myself believe I was just watching TV. It worked well except my partner kept staring at me instead of the TV and making comments about enjoying watching my bum move which made me blush LOL.
The hardest thing for me is I'm an emotional eater, I've never liked all the healthy food like salads, vegetables etc. I prefer the high you get from stuffing your face full of fat, sugar, salt etc. So every day is a battle with my mental demons. I used to drink every day after work and basically binge drink every weekend. Remarkably that's actually been the easiest thing for me to give up, when I thought it was going to be really hard. Now my partner and I have a strict "special occasions" only policy, and also mix it up with non alcoholic bubbly.
I've had a lot of "special occasions" over the holiday period in Dec and Jan, so looking forward to getting properly back on track in Feb. My target is to lose at least 6lbs this month.
I'm still tracking all my food but not adding my calories to my daily check ins, just reporting my steps at the moment. I'm also getting into the habit of making sure I pack my lunch every night ready for the next day so I know exactly what I'm eating.3 -
We have another new member joining our team ... Please welcome @Maejestique4

Hi Team! Looking forward to joining you all this month. I’ve had a crazy busy weekend and heading to bed. I promise I will post more about myself, my hopes and goals for this challenge tomorrow . Night 💤2

Good evening everyone. Another Monday is sneaking up on us. Let's beat the crap out of it by eating and exercising well.
Check in for 1/30:
Steps - 7070. Not to shabby.
Calories - 1600
Exercise - none. Shopped at a mall in the morning and ikea in the afternoon. All that shopping, not spending, made snacking very hard to do. Will do either a long walk or gym tomorrow. Maybe even both if it is good weather.
@Maejestique welcome to the group.
I will do my intro tomorrow on the laptop. A lot better than 1 finger typing.2 -
Happy Monday, Downsizers! Here's my check-in:
1/30:
Calories: 1,192
Exercise: knee strengthening exercises only
Steps: 6,125
@Maejestique Welcome to this amazing group!
@Pippin20206 You are doing such a great job! Small changes can lead to big results!
@JodiSW I've lost about 86 pounds at this point - I started on April 12, 2021 - and for most of that time, I didn't exercise at all - I just stayed within my calorie limits each day, without fail. So, calories are my main focus - and trying to do as much exercise as my knees will allow.
@rwood566 Your consistency is amazing!!4 -
Steps 9146
Dancing around in the background while watching TV paid off but I've told my partner he has to keep his eyes on the screen. He's trying to encourage me with his comments but it just makes me self conscious when I'm flailing around.5 -
