@katharmonic - glad you have gotten 2 runs in a row in! That's a great new start!!
Love your friend who has run so many marathons! My doctor actually asked me today when was I going to start contemplating giving up running and doing something else. I didn't have an answer - I have no plans to stop unless I physically can't any longer and have no idea what I would do instead. I don't imagine your friends feels that she is too old to run either.
That said, while I got out for my first run go the month, I didn't really run much today, mostly just walked but I did get out. When I ran (and it felt so good) on Sunday my arm throbbed for days so I am just going to go slowly and see how it feels. I am cleared to see the ortho now, just have to wait for the appointment.
When I got over to the trail I was watching a fire develop to the east of my trail. Saw later it was a brush fire in the Cleveland National Forest about 25 miles away. Interesting how it progressed over time and not long after I got home the smoke cloud was over my house about a mile further west from the trail. Also saw an osprey up in one of the dead wood trees along the trail and then saw him later tucking and diving into the pond for a fish.
Note: fire is still burning with no containment but fortunately it is not near any homes.5 -

Another beautiful place to run @Aine8046 !
@kgirlhart Great run to start out the month! Beautiful sunrise.
I only ran 6 times last month and wun 4. I did walk at least 1 mile every day. I'm not really sure what I will be able to do this month, so I think I will make my goal to walk and/or run a total of 60 miles. That will be 10 miles more than February.
I didn't sleep very well last night and worked in the baby room at daycare from 7:45 - 4:45 today. So, I was tired when I got home. It was really nice out, so I walked one mile doing driveway laps.
I cannot imaging what it's like to spend 8 hours with babies! Take it easy and enjoy your walks!1 -
3/1 – 6.51 miles
3/3 – 6.01 miles
Total – 12.52/100 miles
Thanks for all the well-wishes on my trip and fall in the woods on Monday. This morning was a perfect running morning. The temp was around 47F when we started at 5:00 am. I met a friend and we decided to change up the normal route and run in a different neighborhood. This particular neighborhood has beautiful homes and fairly good sidewalks but because it’s in the historic district, not a lot of street lighting. My friend is faster than me but she usually just circles back if I get too far behind. This morning I came out of a dead-end cul-de-sac we had turned on and she was no where in sight. I didn’t know if she had turn left, right, or gone straight across the street. I stood there almost 10 minutes but she didn’t come back so finally I decided to just go. That was around mile 2. We finally met up again around mile 5.5. We were both glad the other had not been abducted by aliens.
@shanaber – I hate that you re-injured your shoulder again. I may get slower and slower but I don’t plan to give up the running thing until I’m forced to either. The smoke from that fire is scary! That osprey is huge!
No picture today @Aine8046? ☹
@polskagirl01 – Thinking of you and your family and your refugee aid efforts.

@shanaber Glad you got out for a walk. That fire looks like it spread quickly. I hope they get it contained soon. Love the osprey.
@Aine8046 Another beautiful place to run. As for spending 8 hours with babies - it's actually pretty fun, except when one starts to cry and then the sympathy crying starts and they are all crying for no apparent reason. Fortunately, that doesn't happen often. LOL And, we only have 5 that day and had to send two home with a fever, so three are a piece of cake.
I have my cardiology appointment at 11 this morning. I'll report back this evening. I'm anxious to see what he says. I am fully expecting that he will order a Holter monitor.3 -
March Goal: 100 Miles
3/1: 5.15 miles
3/2: 5.16 miles
3/3: 5.16 miles
15.47/100 miles completed for March
Another nice 5 mile run this morning. It was a little chillier than I thought it would be, but it was still nice. It has been getting light earlier and I really enjoy running when it is light out. I'm glad I have my Noxgear, but I like it when I can turn it off too.

OMG
Do not get me wrong, I love babies and cannot wait for the grandchildren, but 5???1 -
@shanaber @Teresa502 I fully intend to run into old age as well. I know I will get slower eventually. The bonus to starting running later in life (I was in my late 30's) is that I was so slow that I am actually still getting faster as others my age feel like they are slowing down!
@quilteryoyo Multiple babies sympathy crying with one another would be my personal hell. Bless you.5 -
March total: 2.1/75 Miles
3/2: 2.1 miles
Back to update my goal. This month will be a little lower on mileage as I take a couple of weeks to recover from race weekend and bridge the gap before my next training plan starts. Toward the end of the month I am starting an 8 week HH 10k plan. Quite a bit of speed work in an effort to mix things up a bit and hopefully get a little faster. I don't do a lot of speed work, usually only mixing it into one HM training cycle every year and it is hard to do much speed work while also building mileage. So, focusing more on speed for a couple of months before the heat forces me into slower runs. I found a local 10k that falls perfectly at the end of this plan to try for a new PR. Downside, it is toward the end of May, which is likely to be pretty hot, so we will see if all my work will result in anything tangible. At least it's not the same old thing!6 -
@Aine8046 Hahaha At least there are two teachers in there, but when they have a full class, they can have up to 8 babies under a year old. My step-granddaughter has 5 kids...she had 2 boys ages 2 and 4 and then had triplets. I don't know how she and her husband do it, but she does!
@martaindale You learn to sort-of tune them out until you can figure out what the first one needed. It usually doesn't last too long - well, some would say 5 minutes is too long. It sounds like you have a great running plan. I think you will do great on the 10K. I too am hoping to run into my 80's. I didn't really start until I was 50, so I think I still have plenty of room for improvement too.
Cardiologist report under the spoiler. When I was telling him about my feelings of palpitations and having a fast heat rate for no reason, he actually said that I should think about getting a KardiaMobile device. I told him I had one and he said I should use it. I told him I just got it so haven't had any real episodes since I got it. I was glad he thought it was a good idea. He said that they use it a lot now in patients that have infrequent episodes. I asked about the lower R wave and he basically dismissed it and said, "That's not really what the KardiaMobile is for." He doesn't like that my diastolic BP is above 80 a lot, and even 105 one day this week....even after increasing my HBP medication dosage a couple of weeks ago. So, the last resort is to put me on a diuretic. I pee enough as it is, so really don't look forward to taking it. He said it was necessary because the diastolic being up means that my body is retaining water and keeping all the salt...lol. I've know this for a long time since I can gain 3 pounds from eating a salty meal. So, we'll see what happens. I am going to get an extended wear Holter Monitor next Thursday - to wear for two weeks to see if it catches anything. I'm still going to try to capture something on my mobile device.
I did ask him about CoVID being part of the issue and he said it is possible, but there is no real data to back it up. He did say that they are seeing a lot of people who have had CoVID and are now having heart related issues. He thinks it is because the virus messes with the vasovagal response. Who knows? Someone needs to write a paper. LOL
Our neighbor's cows have been getting out and roaming the neighborhood, mostly on the opposite side of the rural road from mine. Well, when I left out this morning the three worst ones - a big bull and 2 young bulls - were on my hill beside of my driveway. I have no idea how they got there! Anyway, the person they belong to was going to have someone come today to see if he could get them up and maybe take them or something. I didn't see them when I got home, so my exercise today was to walk my hill and his field on my side of the road to see if I saw any sign of them. I didn't see them in my field, but did think I heard/saw the big bull in another neighbor's field. It was there and the person came to get them up and were able to get the bull at least headed in the right direction. I haven't heard if they took them away or not.
Today, I walked the ridges and got in 2.0 miles of walking at an average pace of 16:33 min/mile (3.6 mph).
3-1 - 1.0 mile walk on the driveway
3-2 - 1.0 mile walk - 2.50 mile run out the road
3-2 - 2.0 mile walk in the neighbor's field looking for cows
6.5 miles/60 mile goal6 -
@quilteryoyo sorry that you are going to have to get on a diuretic. Like you, I pee way too often as it is 😕
Hope it helps with your BP at least.
Just did 6 miles on the treadmill this evening. Didn't feel like dealing with the 80+ degrees outside. But I sweat just as much on the treadmill, so I don't know why it matters.

@Teresa502 I’m sorry about your fall!
@quilteryoyo That stinks about the diuretic. I’m hoping you can get your BP under control so you don’t have to do that.
It has been a really busy week at work, so tonight was my first run for March. I didn’t get out to run until almost 8:30pm, but I figure that a short, late run is better than none.
I signed up last night for a quarter marathon in a few weeks. I have never seen a quarter marathon before, usually just 10Ks. It is part of our Cherry Blossom Festival, so I need to put together a pink outfit for it.
March: 1.6/755 -
Thanks @Scott6255. I sweat a lot on the treadmill too, but I suspect not as much as I would if I were running outside in 80°F temperatures. You did great. Six miles on the treadmill is hard.
Thanks @marisap2010 . I've never heard of a quarter marathon either. I was looking around at races the other day and saw a "mini marathon" advertised. I looked at the site and it is a half marathon. Not sure why they decided to call it a mini marathon. I'm sure you will do great and have the perfect pink outfit.

I am doing the Lucky Streaker Challenge in Run the Year. So I will run or walk at least one mile every day in March. Today I ran 2 miles before yoga. It was really nice out. I just ran to the park and back home. I saw 5 deer at the park. It was a nice start to my day.

@quilteryoyo Medical literature is inundated with COVID related publications right now! Every specialty has some sort of COVID thing they are reporting on. No doubt, with some more time and the ability to collect more patients, we will see something about the cardiac sequela.
@scott6255 Boooo 80's. I am not ready for that yet! I also sweat like crazy on a treadmill. There is something about being indoors, even if it is air-conditioned.3 -
March total: 6.3/75 Miles
3/2: 2.1 miles
3/4: 4.2 miles
Ran the trail today. It is getting lighter earlier and I am no longer running in the dark about half of the days. It's ok either way, but I kind of prefer the dark. I like running that trail. It's not heavily trafficked and it's a nice break on my legs to get off the concrete for a bit. The next few weeks are mostly easy runs as I recover, so I should be able to hit the trail more since I don't need to worry about targeting paces.5 -
3/1 – 6.51 miles
3/3 – 6.01 miles
3/4 – 4.08 miles
Total – 16.61/100 miles
I’m working from home today so I did a Ripped workout in the basement before work and ran 4 miles at lunch. Temp is 63F and sunny! Absolutely beautiful pre-Spring day. Heading to the mountains tomorrow for hiking.
@quilteryoyo – Glad the doctor is being proactive with getting your blood pressure under control and monitoring your heart. Good cattle patrol walk! When I was growing up moving cattle to different fields was a major form of exercise for me and my sister! The first mini marathon that I heard about was the Myrtle Beach mini-marathon and just like you said it’s actually a half marathon. Myrtle Beach also has a full marathon at a different time of year so maybe it is to distinguish the two events…
The Cherry Blossom Festival and 10K sounds like it will be lovely @marisap2010. Good job getting out there last night. I hate when work interferes with my running!
@kgirlhart – the Lucky Streaker Challenge sounds fun. I know you will slay it!
@martaindale – I kind of prefer running in the dark also. I think it’s because I feel so self-conscious running where people can see me. On the bonus side though, I got to stop and talk to a couple of different neighbors and pet dogs at three homes. The family in the next house below me (which is about a half mile away) has 1 girl and 4 boys. They are all home schooled. If the boys see me, they will come running out and talk to me. One tried to sell me some chickens today!

The Fed Ex delivery van just dropped these on my porch. I used to run in Asics when I first started running but switched over to Brooks. Asics sent me a coupon for my birthday month and they had my size in these on clearance so I figured I would give them a try again.6

Gosh I got behind again. LOL. Already on page 3.
That was interesting about the diuretic and the blood pressure @quilteryoyo I am sure it is a unique situation to everyone. Based on that knowledge this morning I expected my lower pressure to be over 80 as my fingers were a little puffy when I went to put on my rings. That did not hold true tho. LOL 118/78 this morning but yesterday it was 130 / 69. I have no idea really why it's so variable but typically my monitor says "your blood pressure is normal" even tho I consider over 120 over 80 high for me.
And yes to answer the question I run in Nikes and pull the laces. They run "really fast" for me and I have tried a full spectrum of brands over the past few years that I got intensely back into running.
My mileage this year is going to be less but I am focused on pace. Last year total I had 130 mile splits under 9 min pace. As of this morning I am already up to 107 mile splits total. I think mentally it is easy when I know the runs are not that long 2-5 miles to push harder.
At 63 turning 64 in August I don't know how many more miles my knees or hips or other various aged parts have left. I kind of always feel like I am one serious injury away from no more running which also would make me sad. And Orthos are no big help because most of them think we are crazy to run anyway. And apparently I walk with a limp as someone at work pointed out to me yesterday. It's not something that is hurting that I can tell but perhaps all those old knee injuries or the spiral femor fracture in 97 kind of gave me a gimpy gate. It;s not new as sometimes when I catch myself on my ring I notice it also.
There is another distance runner at work who walks all bent over crooked and sideways and it's been getting worse. I asked him yesterday if he was injured and he did not even realize he was crooked. I offered to take a short video for him.. sigh. Posture is SO critical. I wish I could focus on it all the time.
Anyway, I am at 15 miles out of 150 goal. I think I am behind but perhaps I will do some longer runs this month also. Honestly after finishing run the year last year I am not totally motivated for distance. Kind of burned me out. Even tho when I do run more than 6 or 7 I feel REALLY great after. hmmm6 -
So much for running more in March - my darling daughters just gave me Covid. Yay!10
-
I too hope to run until I'm unable to... my sneaky plan is to end up being the only person in my age group so I can win something 😂 And having started at 39 and only really started doing any structured speedwork and stuff over the last year I'm definitely in the still improving camp.
@SummerSkier I have found that daily yoga has worked wonders for my posture and the way I move.
Today I finally got to run/hike up to the top of the mountain directly behind us. It was awesome, but I'll feel it tomorrow. The trails are very rocky so it was slow going, but coach agrees I need to be getting out on the mountains regularly now. Photos on strava.6 -

This is a fabulous plan! And probably one of the only ways I would ever win anything. I'm amazed at how fast people in my age group are!

Oh damn @ContraryMaryMary! Sorry. Hope it is a mild case!
@Teresa502 I too am (was) a solid Brooks fan for many years up until a few months ago when I had an itch to try something new. Asics NovaBlast2 sounded like they would be right for me. So I tried them and I really like them. So hopefully you like the ones you got. Which ones are they?3
