It does sound extremely scary. I'm not sure which side of Florida our Connie is on?

Florida is so narrow that west and east will be affected. Looks like the west side is going to get the winds and flooding. Certainly loss of power and down trees everywhere. Hope Connie and her family ride this out without too much damage.

    :) Thank you, Lori.

:/ Looking forward to a Connie update...can't imagine what her world is like at the moment.

I've hit that point of frustration that I've hit twice before in this past year.
    Scale is just stuck.
First time it threw me off so much I lost inspiration/hope and gave up. :p Second time I doubled down and took my calories too low. The numbers started dropping but it was not sustainable and eventually I jumped the groove into bingeland. This time, the third time, I hope will be the charm. I'll just stay the course. The scale has to move - my calorie input is pretty decent compared to my big weight loss year(s) - but still substantially below maintenance. PAV might give the numbers a stern look - but my weight and amount of body fat is high enough now that I think I can get away with this for awhile. (Oh thank the lord for small blessings :# )

Do keep in mind things such as:

--all the furniture and tool moving around. I bet you that if you sit on your duff for a three day you will "lose" weight -- but don't do that since the loss will not be related to fat reserves.
--examine scale: soft floor, dirt caught under, batteries, fake consistency etc.
--enter numbers in weight trend app--are you a fruit or a little robot when it comes to phones? fruits happy scale... libra -- with your dell and fitbit you should be using trendweight anyway
--how "strictly" are you counting? My 300 Cal deficit... can be there or not depending on how strictly I count and how many thing I forget  (like the two pieces of melon yesterday!)
--**the amount of bunnies transiting through your system** <-- they do take a few "hours" to process!

And don't forget that the fitbit, while useful, I mean you know that I find it extremely useful, it can easily show results that are less useful if you don't interpret them a bit.

The more step and greater distance dog walk that the fitbit gave me many many calories for last night... on paved sidewalks... was NOT more calories than the same duration one earlier in the day going up and down hilly leaf, grass, and mud, dirt trails. Yet it was substantially more calories... on paper!

    Thank you, PAV.

I hadn't really considered the "work" - probably some muscle gain! - definitely some inflammation which I think holds onto water.

Scale - today I changed the batteries - just in case - bad idea. Accidentally switched it to pounds and that was a blow. I can convert - but I don't because I didn't want to know. It is okay. I will get over it.

I've been pretty strict. Using the scale pretty religiously. Sometimes looser with some veggies - lettuce is a pain - tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers I will sometimes guestimate if they go into the salad bowl before I reset the scale and I can't remember where it was at.

I figure fitbit has a margin of error - but I'm not going to sweat that.

I tried to find the post where you mentioned the percentage of your TDEE is safeish to cut and didn't. I'm somewhere between 30-50% which should equal weight loss even if fitbit is off. Eventually it will work! I have noticed my resting heart rate is down again from 56ish to 50ish. Body is FIGHTING this I think!

RHR is a good indication. 25% of actual real TDEE is a pretty goodly sized cut. bodies are... appreciably designed toward fighting this.

Son’s birthday today so we’re going out with friends to celebrate. It’s an unfamiliar restaurant so I’ll be tiptoeing around the menu.
Weather is finally getting better with days in low 90s to upper 80s and much cooler nights. It takes longer for the heat to rev up. Maybe by the end of the month it should be perfect and I can open windows?

Hope we hear from Connie soon. 🙏 Just awful devastation in Florida.

Laurie and PAV will be having exciting adventures this month! Please post some photos and check in when you can. ❤️ Cherish every minute.

We’re taking a short trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico in early November. Looking forward to being in the mountains and eating those hatch chilies. Until then it’s rounds of doctor and dentist appointments for hubby and me. Seems like we schedule everything for October trying to get it all done before the holidays.

Hello everyone! Long time no see. So sorry for just disappearing as I did, but life got crazy and I just did not have the energy or time. However, now things have calmed down some so I am back looking to make some changes.

Since we last talked, I made my move to Chicago and have started to settle in here. I am loving it so far. The fact that I can walk to 2 groceries easily (and a few more if I really wanted to though they are further) is just awesome. The area I am in is very walkable and I am super close to the lake front trail as well. Right now the weather has been perfect so I have been trying to take advantage of that (stupid work getting in the way lol).

But I will say... I need to get my eating under control. During the moving process I had NO energy to cook so I was ordering in at least 1 meal a day. Then I was doing the same after the move because I was unpacking and still looking for some of my kitchen stuff. Been doing a lot better since then, though I ordered in yesterday and am regretting it today. My stomach and digestive track have not liked the "bad" food... I only use the word bad because I am too tired atm to think of a better word and too much of it is making me FEEL bad so, yea. So that is my goal. Not really gonna track calories yet (still super busy), but did want to come back for the support and friendships while I at least try to clean things up some.

Are you feeling better after Ovid?

I can totally relate to the perils of weight gain during a move. I would add 10-15 pounds each time hubby was reassigned. 10 moves = 100 lbs. easily gained.
Some was the stress of getting relocated and settled into a new space. Then there’s the whole resupplying the pantry and fridge. And being physically exhausted from packing and unpacking.
Be kind to your tired self Athijade! You’ve made a major life change and career change. Do what you can until you catch your breath. When you’re ready hit the logging and diet fixes hard!

Mostly. I still have some breathing issues that pop up from time to time. Like just a bit tight in my upper lungs. Also my cough reflex is very easy to trigger.

Congrat's Athijade. Maybe a bit of smooth sailing coming for you :) the food thing will become easier to manage when you don't have a million other things racing through your mind.

I have no idea if or how much I gained because, for some reason I don't know, I don't seem to have packed my scale. Super confused about that. It was a nice scale too.

And my kitchen is a LOT smaller then my old one. Super narrow but deep pantry. Less cabinet space. Only 1 drawer. No dishwasher. Then you add in the fact that I walk to the grocery and it means changing the way I think about meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking. Which may be a good thing. I am more likely to reach for fruit or veggies with dip as snacks when I don't have space to keep all the other, not as healthy snacks around.

I am nearly unpacked. Mostly just have a couple of boxes that are waiting for me to get off my behind and put up shelves. Also got some things at Ikea this past weekend and have 2 end tables coming from Amazon today. Other then those though, everything is out of boxes and put away. Maybe not in its final spot (like my sewing stuff which will be stored until I get my grandma's old sewing table at Thanksgiving), but it is out of the way so my space can be lived in comfortably.

You’re on your way Athijade! Soon you’ll have a good routine going and mental space for meal planning.
I knew I was “home” when I could drive around the town without a map. Oh - and I didn’t wake up wondering where I am!

I spent the morning scrubbing down woodwork and floors. Whew! The house is way too big for two old people! It was fine when son and mom lived with us but now it’s a chore.

Also I’m cleaning out “stuff” that has accumulated to get ready for the down sizing I know we must plan for soon. For a change, hubby is on board for getting rid of stuff. Perhaps a few new medical concerns have convinced him we’re not immortal? Perhaps it’s redoing our wills? For sure Son (single only child ) doesn’t want the stuff......

I want to be in a small home where I can close the door and walk away for a nice long vacation.

Athijade - sounds like you are pulling it all together pretty well. Hope the change in living space brings lots of joy and health new routines to your life. I love living within walking distance to grocery stores. It is an almost daily walk. An easy 2000 steps - looking at fresh produce everyday is very inspiring.

Yooly - that sounds like a challenge. Do you have moving plans in mind - or just starting to think about it?

Nope just thinking seriously about it. It’s going to be difficult to convince hubby we need to move while we can. I know too many people who have waited much too long - beyond their capacity for independent living.
I say do it while you can still make decisions for yourself rather than have family try to do it for you.

You seem to enjoy cookings etc so I don't know how relevant it would be.

But it is WAY less expensive to have two people in an independent living facility as opposed to one... sort of like the cruise ship supplements!!!

Even taking into account that two people would probably choose one of the larger one bedrooms as opposed to a smaller one (and ignoring studios and two bedrooms--two bdrms being very rare anyway)--you would be looking at 120% to 133% for two peops.

I would like to know your thoughts on how to go about downsizing - for me to consider when I am ready to "downsize"

Right now we’re in a four bedroom, three full baths house with large yard. Way too much house! We’re not quite ready physically for a facility setting. Not ready for assistance yet.

All I want is a smaller house! A two bedroom cause hubby needs his messy office space. Visitors can stay in a hotel! Maybe a condo where all the outside work is handled by the community?

Downsizing is easy for me but I have to fight sentimental hubby. I keep a bag in the closet and dump in clothes/shoes that I don’t use any longer. I’m getting rid if most decor schotchkis that collect dust. Also entertainment housewares like “good” dishes, crystal, serving platters. Things for “company”. Duplicates. Collections. My philosophy is if I haven’t used it in the past year it can go. I am not a warehouse for storing memories that collect dust 🥹

Right now we’re into round two to moving stuff along. I have friends with a large multigenerational family many of whom are happy to take some of it. Otherwise it goes right to Goodwill. So when I move to that smaller place unpacking will be easier.

Now I understand! Okay. I've already done most of that "downsizing" when I moved to this small, one floor, no basement/no attic storage, row house. I have retained a few stacks of Corelle plates/bowls for serving many guests - and a few pewter serving dishes that serve as wall decoration - but they take up little space. Ditched the extra "linens" for sleepover guests (can accomodate one/one couple only now).

That next step - when I don't want to worry about a yard - or even this much house - is, I hope, way in the future. But I know there are nice "inbetween" places out there. Where you can have your own house in a seniors setting but there is a line up of assisted living down the road, so that when you are ready you don't have to leave your community and the neighbours that you have had a chance to meet and get to know and hopefully like (you might just be stuck with them for the rest of your life :)).

Three big space hogs I still need to deal with eventually.

I have become the repository of photos from three moms. Might just leave those to my kids to deal with ... lol ... unless I find myself with endless time on my hands/or enough money in my pockets to pay someone to digitize them.

And...camping gear! Sleeping bags and all the accoutrements. I might still have a few camping trips left in me...I'll look at that in a few years.

Christmas decorations. They take up lots of space - mostly outdoor - I guess as they breakdown I will simply stop replacing them and simplify the decorations. Maybe I can speed that process up by giving some to local families with kids. Don't think The Boy will be here for Christmas again...but perhaps there will be another grandchild in my future a la son number 2? So maybe I should hold on for awhile :)

So here’s the stuff table. Lots more under the table, on the floor, into adjoining room.......
WOW - can’t wait until it’s all gone. I might miss the ice cream maker.

Some of the schtochkis were hubby’s grandmothers. His aunt shipped them to my house when grandma passed because she was downsizing and could bear to give it away. I got stuck with it all whether I wanted it or NOT. Hubby couldn’t dump the memorabilia so now I get to do the evil deed.

As for photos, when my mother passed, I scanned all her old photos (labeled, dated) and papers etc. identifying people. I put the file on flash drives and made one for each of the grandchildren. The originals went to a sentimental photographer grandson.
It took a bit of time and obviously not as tactile as the photos - but not collecting dust at my house. And honestly, I doubt anyone has actually looked at those flash drives. But it’s done ✅

If I could wedge a foot into hubby’s messy office I’d be working on scanning my own photos and papers. Then again does anyone want them? Maybe one or two but not whole albums.
