HOW IT ALL WORKS: The January challenge runs from January 1 - 28. F2F months always start on a Sunday and end on a Saturday, so adjust your calendars!
Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat thread. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard.
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you take a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or are moved to the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month and year begin!!

Hi everyone,
My name is Marki, I'm 51, and I'm from Tulsa, Oklahoma. This is my first month on team WNM. I have done F2F before and was on Mission Slimpossible. I was open to meeting new people and was assigned to WNM this time around. Please feel free to send friend requests.
2022 had a lot of challenges for me. I ended up at my highest weight ever 359.9, and my NP put me on Ozempic to aid in weight loss since I had a high blood sugar reading when I had a hospitalization for asthma exacerbation. I also have PCOS, hypothyroidism, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), and chronic migraines. I took my fourth 0.25 mg shot of Ozempic this morning. I've been having moderate GI side effects, but they are worth it because Oz gets rid of the food noise and allows me to eat when hungry and not think about food all the time.
I'm watching my calories and learning to listen to hunger cues rather than eating because food is present. The holiday season has been a great time to start this process because if I can do it now, I can do it any time. Last night, for example, I went out to eat with friends at a Mexican restaurant. I decided that one delicious steak taco was plenty for dinner. Others had chips, queso, and salsa, and they didn't even tempt me. I thoroughly enjoyed my taco and the company, but I only ate what I needed to fuel my body. NSV!
I look forward to getting to know you all better.9 -
I had to take some time off but re-joining the team now.
I have realized that my journey has 3 main focus points: weight, fitness, mental health. I know, it seems I just re-discovered the wheel but until we realize the obvious, what others keep telling us, we stay death to those words of wisdom.
So here I am starting a new chapter.
1) weight - I can change it by controling what and how much I eat. I have struggled with limiting the amount of food I consume but found out that I am able to stop throwing food into my mouth at certain time of the day. So instead of keeping losing the battle of staying under the calorie limit, I will focus on not eating after 5 pm. I can be successful with this and save myself the misery of failing.
2) fitness - Morton's neuroma has impacted me, unfortunately. Walking on some surfaces is OK, on others results in pain in the foot radiating up the leg. One of those no-no surfaces is treadmill. I am ok with limited, up to 30 min treadmill walking so I am switching to several shorter walking sessions.
All the jumping is off the table as well. And I am not up to longer workouts. I do not like them - mainly because I suck at them, they just reveal how much out of shape I am. But my doctor says that 4-min workout is ok, since it's 4 minutes more than a 0-min workout. 7-min workout is even better and doing a 4-7 min workout every day adds up. So I started FitOn app workouts, 5-10 min long ones. Occasionally I'll do up to 15-min ones. I can do THAT. I think I can stick with that. I have been on a 5-day streak now and I am very proud of myself.
3) mental health - I tend to worry about everything and all the time. That makes falling asleep very difficult. Staying asleep is a challenge too, because if turning to the other side I wake up, I start thinking about things and ... worrying. Bye bye sleep! But doing yoga right before bedtime helps. So I re-started doing it. Already in PJs, right before bedtime.
In January, and hopefully beyond, into 2023, I want to stick to these three: no eating after 5 pm, FitOn workouts, bedtime yoga - every day. Let's see where adhering to this plan gets me.
Happy New Year team Weight No More! May this new year be better for each and every one of us!8 -

Hello All. New to F2F but long time user of MFP. I usually use MFP to get back on track in January and by August I get burned out. I did well at the end of this year by doing the Atkins lifestyle (High protein, low carb). Looking forward to 2023 and what it will bring. Happy New Year team!7

I saw someone ask in the December chat about who has a Fitbit, but I switched over to Garmin.
Any Garmin users out there who want a buddy?
Also mods - is it appropriate to start a F2F group on Garmin for exercise / step challenges? Or should I not?1 -
Hello everyone. Never done this or anything like this before. I am Gary, 56 years old and I live and work in London. I am 312 lbs today 1st Jan 2023 and I am very keen to drop that number fairly substantially. I am looking forward to the challenge in partnership with you all. Best of luck and happy new year to everyone. Cheers, Gary.7

My goal for 2023 is to lose what I gained throughout the 2022 (17 pounds). And maybe more but we shall see. I'm going to be better about keeping track of my food. I'm going to try hard to not snack at night. And my goal is to get 10,000 steps a day. I'm going to do step challenges on fitbit to help motivate me.
I also would like to do the step challenge on here.6 -

I've just looked back at my steps for 2022. Unless the world implodes, my 2023 target is going to be 3,000,000. That's 8,300 per day. I can do that! What can you do?
Way to go! That some terrific personal stepping.buniphuphu wrote: »Hi everyone,

@MotylekOkruchy Your post resonates a lot for me, especially about sleeping. I also have a long history of trouble going to sleep because my brain won't shut up about every little thing. I don't know that I could cut off eating at 5, I don't usually manage to get home from work before that but a moratorium on snacking after dinner would probably be a good idea. If you can't manage more than 7 minute workouts, could you do two or three a day? I have a work out video that has four or five 10 minute workouts...doing one of those a few times a day for me would be a good idea.

Hi everyone,
I’m Cheryl. I’m 50 and from Ontario, Canada (near Toronto). I have used MFP before but have never been part of this type of challenge. I’m excited about it and hope it keeps me motivated.
I am at the highest weight I have ever been (315lb) and know that I need to do something. I have severe osteoarthritis in both knees which makes walking at times painful and difficult. I know that losing weight is one of the best things I can do to help that. However, it also means I have to find alternative types of exercise that doesn’t hurt. I swim a lot - both laps and Aquafit and found a great chair body fit class.
2022 was a hard year. My husband finally joined me in Canada (he’s from Nigeria) after a long wait to his visa approval due to COVID delays. It was stressful getting him adjusted to life in a very different country. Then 6 months ago he went in hospital with chest pains and a week later was having a triple bypass. It was very scary but he’s doing well now.
However, this meant a lot of my focus last year was on taking care of him and not myself. So, 2023 is the year I focus on me and my health. Sorry for writing a book but I looking forward to getting to know everyone and being part of this group.5 -

Happy New Month (AND YEAR!!!), Everybody! So happy to see all the new faces in the chat (and the old ones too, not that I'm calling anyone old, I swear)!
I am minstrelofsarcasm, also known as Minstrel, also known as Ashley, also known as "that sweaty girl in the corner"... I am one of the co-captains along with the ever-marvelous @melaniedscott. My role here is to provide some real talk, some good motivation, and a few too many jokes about stress eating for anyone's comfort levels.
The Basics:
I am 27 and currently living in Ohio. I work as a combustion engineer for an industrial manufacturing company (I set things on fire for money). I am fascinated by all facets of science, whether that be nuclear physics, nutrition, geology (I hear it rocks), chemistry, etc. Feel free to ask any of your questions when it comes to the science of things. I can't guarantee I'll know the answer, but I can definitely figure it out and provide an answer in a way that's (hopefully) understandable.
Why I am Here:
I love numbers, and when I discovered that I could get healthier (as my doctor told me I absolutely had to do) by keeping track of numbers, I signed up for MFP. My original weight was 8lbs 2oz, and while I don't think I'll ever make it quite that low ever again, my goal is to never be above my highest weight of 234 (September 2014).
Despite having joined this wonderful community, I didn't take my weight loss or my health seriously until after I graduated college in May 2017 and was told by a different doctor that my eating and (lack of) exercise habits put me on the road to diabetes. I'll admit, I was terrified. I grew up with a diabetic parent who took no actions towards improving their health to reduce their dependence on insulin and is now facing some very serious health complications. I didn't want that to happen to me - I wouldn't want to put anyone through having to worry about me in the same way I worried about them.
So I searched "gym" on Google Maps, and signed up for a free class with the first place that popped up in the results, a spin studio. Since July 1st, 2017, I have completed over 1,040 spin classes. There was some… drama at the spin studio, so I no longer have a membership, but will drop in from time to time.
In other news, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in December 2019 after an arduous journey from doctor to doctor, through several misdiagnoses (why is it that the first thing a doctor will suggest is anxiety if you're female and show emotion in the doctor's office?), 14 vials of blood drawn for blood tests, 3 weeks of being unable to consistently feel the left side of my body, 2 MRIs, 1 spinal tap, and a partridge in a pear tree. I could go into a long rant about everything, and I have, but there's no need to fill my introduction with things you don’t have time to read.
In Summary:
Since joining MFP, I have lost over 70 lbs, regained about 15 while on a three-month business trip in France (wine and cheese is my weakness), lost 5 of them, gained 5 of them, maintained throughout 2020, yo-yo'ed for the first few months of 2021, and here I stand (sit) around 170 lbs, over 60 lbs lost. I don't have a goal weight anymore, since BMI was developed by a mathematician and not a doctor, and as long as I feel healthy, I can weigh whatever I want (somewhere in the 150's sounds pretty good right now, but I guess we'll see).
As for exercising, I have recently joined a new gym. Between spending time with my friend (who has a personal training certification, and who I guess is now my personal trainer) and dropping in on spin classes and all the amenities my new gym has to offer, I am hoping to get back on track. Previously, I have had memberships with CycleBar, OrangeTheory, and F45 - By no means am I an expert on fitness classes, but I know a thing or two.
I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you even more as we work our way through the month.

Also mods - is it appropriate to start a F2F group on Garmin for exercise / step challenges? Or should I not?
Every team runs their own personal step challenges, so we've got that covered on this end. The moderators also host a challenge every week, some focused on exercise, others on food, and some on mental health, etc.
For anything more focused exclusively on exercise and whatnot, I could discuss with the other moderators the possibility of adding something to the announcements, but I would definitely not just start one at the moment.2 -
I want to try to work on intentional noticing this year in order to try to be more positive and hopefully keep moving forward with my weight loss, so this morning as I was bathing I noticed something good but odd: I have ankle bones! I have been carrying around a lot of weight as inflammation for quite a while, but my ankles are no longer so swollen that my ankle bones are gone! That is today's NSV!
@MotylekOkruchy I like that you are focusing on three things! Keeping it simple is a good way to achieve success! I also have Morton's neuroma, and the ortho recommended that I get a little pad that goes under my toes, which has helped me some.
@Stimpy56 Are you sticking with Atkins for the new year? I know a lot of people lose weight with it and are successful.
@GGT1966 Hi Gary! I hope you are successful in your goal this year!
@ljdanny You've got a great attitude for the coming year! I hope you see success!
@melissacoleman430 Great way to start the new year with a loss! I hope this is a preview of good things to come for the rest of the year!
@Zumba_Luvah I'm also hoping to get rid of the pounds I picked up last year. 2022 wasn't scale-friendly, but 2023 is off to a good start.
@melaniedscott Having a lot of other health problems makes exercising a challenge, doesn't it. I've been investigating pilates for cold-weather exercise, but in warmer months, I like to swim. What do you do for exercise?

@buniphuphu - Yes I am!. I started in Sept and did well until the Holidays. Now I am back on the high protein low carb diet which is easy for me to follow. The hardest part was not putting Sugar in my morning coffee, but now I am used to it.

Welcome to all our new and returning team mates!
My name is Ginny and I am 61 years old. I am retired and live just west of Albany, NY. January will be my fifth month since joining this challenge and, since September, I have lost 13.7 lbs. The weight is coming off more slowly now than it was when I first made this lifestyle change but I am determined not to get frustrated. My long term goal is to reach 135 lbs so I have about 34 more lbs to go.
I made this lifestyle change in January 2022 at 230 lbs. At 5"3" tall I was 90 lbs over the top of the healthy BMI range for my height. I was tired of feeling unwell and in pain all the time. I had no energy, constant pain in my knees and hips, and no stamina. I never exercised and couldn't climb a flight of stairs without being out of breath. As of my latest weigh in I have lost a total of 60.9 lbs and am no longer considered to be in the obese weight range for my height. Even more important than the weight loss is the improvement in my physical condition, mental well being, and quality of life. Now I rarely have pain in my knees and hips, I have more energy and my stamina has dramatically improved.
Today is my 1 year anniversary of tracking and maintaining my food diary in MFP.
My goal for 2023 is to reach 140 lbs and begin easing into the maintenance phase. That goal may change after I see my Dr in June. My mini goal for January is to lose 4 lbs.
Wishing you the best of success for this month's challenge and for the coming year!5 -

Last week was not a good one for moving around. I had a head cold with a hard time breathing so not much sleep at night but plenty of naps during the day. Feeling much better yesterday and today.
Also got good news/bad news from the doctor. My cancer is confined to the liver but has grown just enough to say the latest chemo is not working and there's not many options left. I decided to try radiation beads which have had great results against prostrate cancer hoping it will kill what I have. I will try to focus on the positive which has gotten me this far!10 -
Hi. Sherrill from Washington state here.
I had a response to join this team so throwing out my introduction.
Having an odd time trying to find threads on the app. Any tips on easier thread viewing?

Welcome! What kind of a response would make you throw out your intro?
My tip: bookmark it. I almost never go to the main community area anymore. I click community (phone) and then bookmarks.
Also: my Sat steps were...4656 ish. I did a lot of running around without my phone, so I guesstimate.2 -
I am completely back peeps
December was a very very stressful time and am glad its all over.
@melaniedscott i would like to switch my weight day from Monday to Friday and I shall begin posting from this Friday.
