I made beans on toast for the first time this morning!!!
Last week with my dad I bought a cheap toaster, I haven't owned one in years. I was thinking what kind of savory things I could eat and then came up with the beans. I believe you eat it a lot for breakfast right? How do you like it? I had it plain on very dark bread. It was very filling, but a little boring. My bean:bread ratio was also off, too many beans. How much do you use on a slice? I will try again tomorrow on white bread!

We have a 12-year old Boston Terrier and his health has really been declining this year. He had a sore leg and was hobbling on his other three legs for awhile, but he responded well to physical therapy in the pool. Now, his back legs are really giving out. He sometimes falls down and has trouble getting up so we bought a harness with two handle-type loops - placed in the front and back - for us to support him. We use it on the stairs so he can still climb and descend on his own while we guide him to prevent tripping, etc.

I took him to the vet yesterday and she said he might have a pinched nerve. He’s taking a higher dosage of prednisone to reduce the inflammation and we made an appointment for a piezoelectric or acupuncture treatment, depending on what the other vet decides is best.

We were happy to see (our little rascal) Petey benefit from the pool treadmill to overcome his last injury - and the owner of the pool recommended swimming to strengthen his hind legs - so we’ll probably try that, too! He’s still very food- and treat-motivated but we have to make sure he stays at a healthy weight so he doesn’t put any extra burden on his joints, etc. I can certainly relate to his aging difficulties!!

We’ll see how it goes … I’m trying not to eat my own emotions while watching him decline. He’s like a Phoenix rising from the ashes over the years so I’m optimistic he can recover — again!

I hope you all have a good week. Keep trying like Petey and we’ll do our best to support you in getting up again after any fall. Go Shape Shifters!

What kind of beans @pupowl and how did you cook them? Just curious...love pretty much any beans you could name, but it all depends on how they're prepared, in my opinion...

No idea where the week went. Been super busy at work. I read through the posts and laughed when I saw my weight post from last week. (No I didn't gain and then lose 60 pounds. :) )

Loved all of the puzzle pictures.

From what I have read, the only 'right' beans for this are Heinz baked beans in the blue can. https://www.amazon.com/Heinz-Baked-Beans-Tomato-Sauce/dp/B000BTAREY
I tossed them in the microwave for 2 minutes, that's about the extend of cooking I am willing to do so it worked out well.

Good morning Shape Shifters. I was feeling pretty lazy and I ate too much food again. It was really cold at night, but got quite warm during the day. Tinus enjoyed sitting in the sun a lot. I finished the 500 piece puzzle. There wasn't really anything that slowed me down and it was done early in the morning already. So I also started a new one! I love the picture on the 500 piece, but I really wish it was normal sized. Happy Wednesday everyone <3

@Pupowl love your puzzle pictures! ☺️
How does Tinus like the panda scratch board?

I am sorry to hear Petey is having issues. 12 is pretty old for a pup! It seems like you have tried lots of things to help him out already. Swimming seems like a great option. I had issues with Tinus limping in the past, though vets couldn't find anything. Since I started giving him Flexadin, I haven't seen it again. They have it for dogs and cats and it is for joint support and flexibility. Maybe something like that is also worth giving a try. I hope you can find a treatment that helps keep him comfortable and enjoying life.

He doesn't! I haven't even seen him sitting on it. I know that is the 'risk' of buying stuff for cats. They either love it or hate it and there doesn't seem to be much of an in between.

Quick check in: had two very good workouts the last two days. My weight has been going up and down 2 lbs for the last few weeks, though I try to be very consistent with my calorie deficit and working out. No noticeable movement on the scale… but I try to be patient and believe that I‘m doing everything right, so the weight has to come off eventually.

@Pupowl yes, that’s the risk... And most times an old cardboard box will be more attractive to them than the nicest stuff you buy them. At least the panda board looks cute 😅

Hi all,Just got back from my morning Dance fit class.I tried out my new pink trainers, they were fine.@Pupowl your question about the beans made me laugh 😃 I didn't realise I had them that often lol.My eldest son is alot like you & doesn't like to cook.As he works from home 3 days a week & only has 15 mins break he makes beans on toast every day ! I put half the tin on 2 slices of bread.I like wholemeal bread. Also I like beans with hash browns so usually weight out about 120g or egg.Cheese on toast with beans on top is my fave though.Heinz beans are the best.
@PatriceFitnessPal I do hope you can help Petey to be a bit more mobile. He sounds like such a good pal.

I just recalled seeing it in your food diary before, so you seemed the right person to ask! Half a tin for two slices sounds good. I don't have enough containers for the microwave, so I think I will go to the store today to grab an extra set. Thank you!

Talking about beans, have any of you tried brownies made with beans? They are supposed to be good but I could be a total disaster.

@PatriceFitnessPal -So sorry about Petey. If only they could talk….Hopefully he’ll bounce back. It’s amazing what they can do!

Hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day! I had two days of traveling, eating out, wine, etc and it showed on the scale. Ughh- I’d been doing so well! I guess today is a new day! Hope everyone has a good one.

    @nancyinmo congratulations!!!
@Nataliewr0403 I made black bean brownies once a few years back. Same thing, they were supposed to be delicious……nope! So nasty. It could have been the recipe, but I’ve never tried to make them again.

@CasandraW thank you! If I am brave enough and because of its health benefits. I will try.
Right now I am enjoying rolled oats with banana and peanut butter and dark chocolate chips. A treat to when I want something sweet

I can see brownies would work with beans in them, depending on the beans of course. Chocolate is a pretty strong flavour so it could mask the beans. I have had bean icecream in a restaurant, that was very tasty.

There’s a vegan café in my neighborhood that offers brownies made of beans. I’m not vegan but tried one of their bean brownies a while ago. Though I expected it to be a bit tasteless it was really good. The chocolate masked the beans well and the texture was really nice as well. Depends on the recipe, I guess.
