@Pupowl I always enjoy reading your posts about your walks and gardening and your photos are always stunning. You have a real great eye for capturing beauty!
@jessicakrall8 @PatriceFitnessPal and others in the path of the wildfire smoke, I hope it gets better soon for you! Yesterday was awful here! Even with a mask on I came from outside with an ash taste in my mouth and my clothes smelled like smoke. We have a little reprieve this morning so both my dog and I were very happy to get back outside for a walk. The smoke is supposed to come back later today, so will head out at lunch for another walk before it comes back. I really take the fresh and clean air for granted!5 -
@Pupowl thank you for your tips but as you can see above my photo posting under the spoiler still wasn't successful!
I'm having a lovely time in Greece,my son & his girlfriend arrive tomorrow so it will be good to see them.
I wanted to ask to be removed from the step challenge for June please.Unfortunately my Garmin watch tracker has died on me 🙁
I did go in the sea with it on yesterday but as far as I know it's OK to swim wearing it.I have no other way to track steps as I don't want to stroll up & down the beach holding my mobile phone.
Great reading everyone's posts.Just going to have an afternoon siesta to prepare for another night of eating & drinking 🍸4 -
Here's the photo I tried to add.

If so, do you think it is worth it?
I have the paid subscription for the past 3 years, after years of being a user of the free app. I decided to pay for the premium version when I wanted to better track macronutrients, as well as vary my calorie and macro goals each day (based on my lifting days). I really like seeing my macros per meal, the time stamps for everything I eat, and seeing exercise calories without it affecting my target calories for the day. I use the data to share with my coach weekly, and can spot trends in my macros to compare to my weight, body fat, and waist size trends.
The ability to scan barcodes was taken away from the free version a few months ago, so that's a nice perk. Though it makes you wonder what else they'll push to the paid version. At the end of the day, I was a long-time MFP user and I was willing to pay the developers for the content that I found so beneficial.8 -

@Pupowl -- Not sure you're active in your local art community / guild / gallery but your photos are professional quality and would be appreciated anywhere you showed them. You have a real knack for capturing several types of layouts and appreciating how light works. That's not a good camera, that's a good eye.4

A bit disappointed with this little gain. I took a sneak peak at the scales a couple of days ago, and I was 155.2. I’ll put it down to having a late dinner last night
I’ve been reaching my goal of 7,000 daily steps and I’ve been making healthier food choices.
I’m going to try not eating after 8pm to see if that helps.6 -

@Itadakimasu7 Thank you, that is very kind of you to say! I post my pictures on instagram, but that is it really. I am by no means a pro. If you look around online, there are loads of hobby photographers who take awesome pictures and none of them make any money from it. In that sense, what I do isn't all that special. I do really appreciate your comment about having a good eye. A good camera helps a lot, but it doesn't make up for everything.5 -

Sorry to hear about your Garmin. Just enjoy your holiday without worrying about steps. Sounds like a good deal to me. Have fun!4 -

@pedal_power - The air quality is still unhealthy here so the coach canceled rowing practice again but it’s supposed to rain tomorrow so I’m guessing that will help clear the air. I hope the situation has improved for you!
@jessicakrall8 and @bearchested - Thanks for sharing the features you like in the paid version of MFP. The barcode scanner is convenient and would definitely give me a more accurate reading than my calorie ‘guesstimating.’ Usually, I round up on calories and down on exercise since I know most people make the opposite mistake.
The macro breakdown at each meal is something I could benefit from so I check the macros after each meal to gauge the balance. Since my breakfast is typically the same, it’s easy to figure out lunch. Then, I try to round out the numbers to my goal if I snack in the afternoon before dinner time. Usually, I need some extra protein. I like the idea of sharing the data with your coach @bearchested.
A nutritionist recommended MFP to me and asked me to open my diary so she could see the kind of food I liked, etc. She suggested my macro targets of 50% carbs, 30% fat, and 20% protein. She made some meal plans for my son based on his college food hall choices, too. Our family paid for a set number of sessions with her - and I haven’t met with her in years, but I thought it might be good to schedule an annual consultation. So, thanks for the reminder to follow through on my original plan!
@pupowl - I’ve rented e-bikes a couple of times and enjoyed them for sightseeing but I never thought about how far I could travel before recharging the battery. It’s a good idea to carry a spare. I mostly pedal but I find the e-bike really helpful for bigger hills. My husband and sons love to take advantage of the speed so I have to take a different approach to cycling when I ride with them!
Photographers and other artists are really under appreciated in my opinion. Everyone wants them to work for free to ‘build their portfolios’ instead of paying them for their skills and services. There are some gorgeous photos on Instagram accounts. My son is interested in photography and takes some beautiful pictures. However, he realized he didn’t want to pursue it as a career because he likes the freedom to photograph the things that appeal to him personally. He took a class in high school and had assignments to photograph food and other typical commercial items. He was inspired by the movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” and still likes nature and landscape photography as an occasional hobby.
We live near the National Geographic Museum so we sometimes visit there and he has been fortunate to take a couple of workshops there as birthday gifts to learn some useful tips. The workshop leaders often stress the way photographers need to demonstrate exceptional skills with the camera AND some other talent — like repelling from mountain tops! 😬 I’m terrible about taking photos and often regret not capturing a scene or experience so I especially appreciate @pupowl and my family for sharing!3 -
AND @izzyred9400 — I’m so glad you shared your beautiful picture, too! I agree wholeheartedly with @Pupowl that you should use the Garmin watch loss* as an opportunity to relax and enjoy your trip! Have fun with your son and his girlfriend!
The coast looks so inviting and I love the easy feel of all the women relaxing at the beach. You captured a candid moment! 🌊🏝️
*I’m sorry to hear the news about the watch you used so regularly. It served you well — and even crashed at the right time!? Enjoy!2 -

We had some relief from the wildfire smoke yesterday so I took my dog for a big walk in the morning and then went for a most glorious bike ride down to the river at lunch time. The fresh air was so good! I hope it stays this way but it sounds like more smoke is heading our way today.
I haven't been tracking food at all lately and my weight has been up above 200 for a couple months now. I'd like to get back to logging daily it as it really helps me stay on track but June is a busy month for our family, so I'll do what I can for now.5 -

I'm so sorry for everyone suffering with the wildfire smoke. It is no fun and kind of scary, tbh. It's a frequent summer problem in Colorado, but so far we've been spared this time. Our house is at over 10,000 feet so we don't have AC, so when the smoke gets bad we don't really have much of a retreat.
My son is coming to visit Sunday and I'm very excited! Haven't seen him in months! I'm not sure if he's coming to see us or our dog, Buddy. As some may remember, he's a 13 yo golden retriever with terminal cancer and a neurological condition called GOLLP, causing him to slowly become paralyzed. The specialist told us in January he had about 2 months, so he has surpassed expectations, but he's definitely been having a tougher time. Buddy will be thrilled to see his boy!
I hope everyone has a great weekend!6 -
@PatriceFitnessPal
Yeah, ebikes are awesome in my opinion. I bought one after I sold my car and there are very rarely times I regret it. It is not about the speed for me. With my low energy it is just nice to be able to get somewhere and still have the ability to go for a walk or check something out. I am sure part of it is my crappy stamina, but I really struggle a lot on a normal bike. Even at the gym that never seemed to improve on a stationary bike. I am lucky to be living in a small country. With 2 batteries I can reach almost everywhere within my province.
I feel the same as your son: photography will just remain a hobby. That way I get to enjoy it my way and don't feel any pressure to always reach some sort of magical next level. I just photographed a blackbird in the garden sunbathing and acting really silly and I enjoy that just as much as getting a picture of a rare bird. It is about the experience, not so much the result.5 -

I just realized I forgot to post last week's weight ugh. These past 2 weeks were a major struggle, clearly. I've been stress eating I guess, maybe boredom eating. I don't really know the answer there. On top of that, I still have a bum foot. I was told I have a taylors bunion but everything I've tried for it doesn't help. Oddly I bought a cheap pair of slide on saddles from target, and I can wear those on a 14 hour shift and my food feels better then they do in my expensive blooks after 8 hours. I also through some insoles into a pair of hey dudes and those have helped a lot too.7 -

Had a good week in terms of keeping on track with meal planning and generally sticking with macros. I've also been loading my calories more towards breakfast and lunch (complete opposite from when I used to intermittent fast) to help recovery. This means I'm only eating a small dinner, which is helping weight loss. Focusing on satiety in meals has helped a lot as well.7 -

HI, y'all! I'm Cindy and I'm from Texas. I'm currently recovering from a total knee replacement, so it's good to feel like I'm finally getting back some kind of routine. Thanks for moving me to the support team while I've been recovering. I'm a little over 7 weeks post-surgery, and I finally drove by myself for the first time yesterday! I'm still struggling with getting my right knee into the car, but the driving bit is actually ok. I just have to be aware of where I park because I need enough room to open the car door as wide as possible. I probably overdid it yesterday because my hips are tight today. I'm going to PT 3x a week and I try to walk 2x a day every day. I'm looking forward to being able to get back to the gym asap.
Food has been hit or miss. I had prepped some meals to freeze, and I had a meal train set up for immediately after surgery so that was very helpful. Having to stay out of the kitchen has helped my weight loss as well. I've lost about 6 pounds since the day before my surgery. It's the lowest I've been in many years, and I'm determined to continue the trend.
My first two weeks were spent convalescing completely upstairs, so I depended on my husband for all my meals. The first week after surgery, I didn't have much of an appetite, I guess because of the pain meds. When I was finally able to spend any time in the kitchen, I discovered that my husband had run the dishwasher and put away (somewhere!) dishes but that was it. So little by little, as my energy allowed, I've been working on cleaning up my gross kitchen. The only big thing left is to mop the floors, but I can live without that for a bit longer. My next big project is to switch out my closet from winter to summer clothes. I usually do that around the end of April, so it's going to be hot work now that the temps are pushing 100, but it really needs cleaning. Baby steps!6
