@ashleycarole86 - what an accomplishment! That's basically a marathon on a bike. Thank you for sharing!
I love that you and Brad exercise together. When my husband and I were dating, we did a lot of hiking and camping. Just before the wedding, we were both doing a functional fitness class similar to CrossFit together. Then, right after we got married (eight years last month) all of the joint exercise stopped. So, we both have now gained a lot of weight, but I seem to be the only one with the drive and motivation to do something about it. ... I didn't mean to make this about me. I just wanted to say how lucky you are to have a partner joining you and that it makes me really happy to see.4 -
@ashleycarole86 wow that is phenomenal!! Unbelievable achievement. I hope I can do something similar one day. A friend tried to rope me in for a marathon in September but I don't feel that is achievable for me at all. You have inspired me though to hopefully work my way towards something. Congratulations!5

And I'm also on the 'I hate yoga' boat. Tried a few live classes but found it too 'boring'... So I found other ways to move. I know yoga is good for us but if we don't enjoy it, we're hardly going to stick to it, in my opinion anyway4

Woohoo! The weather is quite cool this evening. Ahhhhhhh. I don't think it's going to stay that way for long, but it sure feels nice. I had a lovely time doing no yoga today, even though I have sometimes enjoyed it. A little bit. I love doing sun salutations and down dogs, but that's about my whole repertoire. For "quiet but effective" workouts, I prefer Pilates. On the not-so-quiet exercise front, my horse and I had an excellent workout today - he is really coming along. Tomorrow morning, we're going to try a ride together with another horse and rider - that should be fun.
@ashleycarole86 I'm so glad you finished your Fondo! You and Brad are amazing. I hope you are in some cooler weather now too

Yes, you are absolutely right that it's lovely to have a partner with a joint interest in exercise. Sometimes we can also have a joint interest in other not so healthy pursuits. We have a lot of fun together and we sometimes get wrapped up in too much celebration and not enough hard work. But he is extremely supportive and we do bring out the best in one another so I'm thankful for that.
@Pearl4686
I definitely think signing up for an event can be super motivating. Even if you think the full marathon isn't your speed right now, a shorter distance might be exactly the goal you need. It's fun to train when it's for something, for me at least!
Well the weather here in Kelowna is still warm but there were clouds keeping the intensity of the heat to a minimum. I am at over 12K steps from exploring their downtown.. lots of fun. I will weigh in tomorrow @jugar but it's a scary vacation weigh-in.. you know how my body reacts to that! But, I don't think I've skipped a weigh in for any reason.. it's just how it goes.
Brad is doing another Gran Fondo in September so while I'm not in that event I think it will be jointly motivating for us to get our heads in the right place for the next couple of months. That's the hope at least!4 -
Well done @ashleycarole86 and Brad!2

Quite a big jump for me this week. We had a much-needed weekend away so lots of eating out, my one and only alcoholic drink since September, and more fizzy drinks/fruit juice than water. Since getting home I've been working on getting my body back into its routine of more fibre and more water, but still been snacking on the sweet treats. I'm also very sore from my PT session on Tuesday, which involved way too many side planks for my liking (hence the yoga recommendation request).
I'll give the yoga a go - thanks for the recommendations - and see how I get on. I'm barely doing any specific exercise outside of my PT sessions right now, so whether it's yoga or something else, it'd do me good to move more. Being stuck at my computer in meetings every day, then crashing on the sofa in an evening is not ideal for the human body (or mind, for that matter!).
Work has calmed down a little - one of my customers has gone on holiday for July (which is why we had such a mad rush to get things done) and I have a bit more breathing room in my working day. I'm taking the opportunity to bring a couple of small habits back in so I can get out of survival mode. I've been going to bed earlier to read for a bit and whilst I'm still struggling to get to sleep, I do feel better rested, which has a knock on effect. Breakfast eating was my focus this week and it's going well: I have been able to actually eat my entire bowl of muesli before 11am each day this week.
It's almost the weekend, and as well as a social visit from my Mom/sister, I'm hoping to progress a couple of projects which always helps me feel better. The weather in the UK has always been unpredictable, but we can't rely on the forecasts at all right now, meaning it's necessary to have both indoor and outdoor plans for any given day!5 -

This. 100%. Yoga is boring, in my opinion. More power to those who enjoy it, but I doubt it will ever be my thing.2 -

The past couple of days have just felt exhausting! I think it’s because for the last two weeks, I’ve been staying up until midnight taking care of the house and my pup while my husband was on a work trip. This morning, I felt ready to jump into a workout for the first time since Saturday. I did a 30-minute full body workout and surprised myself using a 35lb dumbbell for goblet squats. Love seeing progress in other ways besides just the scale!
I also met with my dietician on Tuesday and shared I’ve felt a little frustrated because my perception is I’m not making progress. She shared with me that since I started seeing her (2 months ago), I’ve lost 4 1/2 lbs and that’s with work trips, birthday celebrations, and travel. That did make me feel better to hear that.
I’m seeing Asteroid City today, the new Wes Anderson movie, and I cannot wait for Oppenheimer and Barbie! It’s been a long time since I’ve felt excited to go to the movies, so looking forward to them (as well as being in a nice, cool, air-conditioned building lol).5 -
@wishfuljune I'm impressed - 35lb goblet squats! I remember being thrilled with myself when I was doing 35lb renegade rows It's a magic number. And your nutritionist is right. Losing weight while enjoying life events is a big win. (I'm not sure that work trips are enjoyed or just lived through, but you get the idea!)
Jasper and I had a fantastic long trail ride this morning with a lovely mare and her owner. Jasper was a genius! He really did well. I was worried he might be rushy or annoying (mare on the brain...) but he was wonderful. We'll definitely do this more now that we know how well we all get along.
@DD265 smart move to add in some yoga (or anything else!) besides your PT to offset all the sitting, meetings, and stress of work. I hope you find one you really like!
Big thunderstorm and no power here at the moment - I'll send this off when the internet comes back

I’ve had not Fitbit all week but ordered another. It makes be a bit mad that it only lasted 18 months before it failed.
I have an admission to make. I am an ice cream oholic especially in summer. I have had ice cream every day this week. It’s such the perfect thing on hot days. My husband is too and I will blame him for the suggestions. But to be fair I am saying YES.
My weight was up and is coming down slowly by tenths. But I may still see a gain tomorrow. It’s the ice cream and eating out too much.
We are going away tomorrow for the weekend. It’s OH’s birthday and our 40th wedding anniversary. It’s also supposed to rain most of the time. We are going to have to get wet.
@ashleycarole86 and Brad congratulation on completing the grand fondo. That is quite an accomplishment. So proud of you both.5 -

Not my best efforts this week. We had guests staying over last weekend and that meant 3 days of barbecues, drinking, and lots of treats. I did try to show some moderation but have been finding it hard to 'care' much this week. All good up to about 5pm then discipline goes out of the window. I have been doing well at getting back into my exercise regime with 5 mile walks in the mornings and strength training 4 days in a row. We have had a wet July in the UK and it's getting wetter, so getting out and being active has been tricky. So all in all I'm glad we enjoyed the barbecues and family time last weekend, as it's probably the last chance we'll get until mid August, going by the forecast! (Typical brit, always moaning about the weather!)4 -

I’m relieved to see I stayed around the same as last week. I had a birthday party for two friends last Saturday where I enjoyed some BBQ chicken, veggies, and cornbread. I had a couple of lower ABV alcohol drinks, and a few sweet treats (ice cream and cake yum!)
We went out last night and saw the new Wes Anderson movie, Asteroid City, with some friends and my husband and I split a medium popcorn and had water. What an interesting movie! We all agreed it was “the most Wes Anderson movie out of all of his movies.” We also got two cookies before the movie, and split them too and they were heavenly! Mine was banana pudding and my husband’s was a coffee cake cookie.
This morning I have a spin class that I’m glad I kept on my calendar and didn’t cancel, despite staying up a little later than I normally do. Tonight, we’re celebrating my husband’s birthday to go one of his favorite restaurants. I already saw they have a shaved brussel sprouts salad which sounds so yummy, so hoping he’ll split that with me as an appetizer.
Saturday, a friend and I are going to hang out virtually to do a workout together, and then I am meeting other friends to go to a pond. We have these flies that like to hang out at beaches that we call “greenheads” and they are rampant at the beach we wanted to go to, so we figure a pond will be better. We’re thinking it’ll be a picnic dinner at the pond, so I’ll be packing something that is healthy and travel friendly.4 -

I would have liked a bit more but didn't make the best food choices all of the time, so that's probably the reason. I was hoping that a good swim and a toning class I went to this week would mitigate the damage but clearly not quite enough. Happy to go in the downwards direction....even if very slow2 -

Happy with this number as popcorn was overindulged on last night post-hockey game. So salty and so evil/yummy. It is my kryptonite.
supposed to be rainy most of the weekend so I will do my best to carve out time to meal plan so I can be more on target with eating. French fries in the air fryer are sometimes too easy when I haven't planned ahead.

@micki48 I too am an ice cream oholic. It is so tasty! Learning to say no to it is HARD! But, with time and practice I hear it can get easier.
@jugar I am glad Jasper did well on the ride even with the mare there. Also, happy for you that the power came back on. Thunderstorms are incredible.
@wishfuljune way to go keeping with your scheduled spin class! I had one this morning at 5:30 and it was very tough to get myself there. I'm actually a little surprised I didn't fall back asleep on the bike during our warm up
Summer has proven to be a tougher time to start calorie counting than I thought it would be. I'm glad to know that others are in the same boat. We're here for each other and that makes it a little easier.3 -
Happy birthday to the hubbies this weekend @wishfuljune @micki48 and a very happy 40th wedding anniversary to you as well Michele. Enjoy your time celebrating
We had a fun day yesterday.. we did some wine tasting and then took e-bikes and e-scooters that can be rented and zipped downtown for our dinner. Also did a lot of walking so I was over 15K steps.
Today we are taking our bikes to a trail for a ride... love finding fun ways to stay active on our vacations! The sun is out in full force again today... these daytime highs are nuts!
Have a good weekend all. Good luck navigating the popcorn and ice cream5 -

I'm so behind on reading posts but just did a lightning read through haha - @ashleycarole86 you've heard it several times already but WOW that race!! What an accomplishment. I'm over here *considering a 5K walk in October
Solid week of eating for me, mostly due to a good dinner plan - I made chicken milanese with arugula, burst grape tomatoes on the vine, a little bit of buttery polenta, and some parmesan roasted asparagus. Weirdly, MFP just underlined "polent" "parmesan" and "milanese" as spelled incorrectly/not real words. What in the name of anti-Italian bias is this??
Movement was pretty good too and I already have plans for a morning walk tomorrow with a friend. Might take a swim tonight -would be my first in a while because unfortunately doing laps also started to bug my tendonitis foot, so I figured best to sit it out.
Crazy humid here, STILL, and I have been out of luck on some good thunder & lightning as of yet this season.
Happy weekend, Waistaways.5 -
Ahh, the ice cream people are coming out into the sunshine! @micki48 and @MaddawgMadsen we share a passion for sure! I have brought mine down to something more manageable by making sorbet and only having the real thing on rare occasions. I still eat way too much of it if it is in the house, but the sorbet at least has no fat and cholesterol I have a really cheap machine to make it - looks something like this one:
Sorbet is super easy - I make various versions of simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water boiled with citrus zest or rosemary or cardamom or whatever sounds good that day, or just plain) so I am ready any time. The fruit can just get pureed in the blender, strain it if you want no seeds. Then add the syrup (not too much!) and off you go. Make sure the mixture is good and cold, and then put it in the machine and run it until it is about the consistency of soft-serve (20-30 minutes). Put it in a container in the freezer and it will solidify more. If it gets way too solid, you might need to use more sugar, or just let it warm up a bit before serving. These days I'm into fresh currant sorbet, or mango and currants. Lime goes well with it, zest in the syrup (strain it out when using) and juice in the mixture. Strawberries, of course, are wonderful. Cooking the berries before pureeing is optional. I usually opt for raw, except for rhubarb and black currants.
OK - enough about addictive substances We're having a less stellar week than last week - so get to work on week 3 now. Last week was exceptional, and this one is a bit of a rebound. Let's see if we can have another strong one.5 -

Happy Caterday!
Just a quick base-touch before getting to some chores which will help me feel better in my living spaces. My food choices this week have been better. More veggies, many fewer flour products, and generally feeling pretty good. I'm hopeful that the scale will start reflecting some of these changes in bigger ways than a few ounces at a time. One can always hope and plan...best way to hear the Universe laugh!
Have a great day/night, everyone. Let's hope for a little more dry weather for this poor flooding state of Vermont. Our town is fine. I feel for my friends in other locations that weren't so fortunate. Stay well and keep moving, pals!4 -
