Good Evening, I participated in the 5% Challenge maybe 8-10 years ago on Sparkpeople. I see a lot of the members of this challenge have done many, many rounds.

Please share with us why you have stayed on the team and how you benefit from being here.

I am looking forward to taking off in Oct!

For me there are three reasons:
    1. FRIENDSHIP with others also seeking better health. MFP helped me to hold it together during the "Stay Home" part of the pandemic. I look to various fellow 5% members as examples - beacons - to guide me in putting together a whole package of healthy habits.
    2. Fostering HEALTHY HABITS has helped me to manage myself better so backsliding doesn't cause a major catastrophe. So many habits have become second nature to me. I love seeing the results in my medical labs.
    3. I love the 5% Concept: losing 5% of one's weight over 8 weeks is not Monumental, it is DOABLE. I continue partly to remind myself daily of what helped me reach a healthy weight, and partly to hopefully inspire others to develop their stable of healthy habits, so we can curb our self-defeating choices and celebrate our successes.

    Hi Everyone!

I AM BACK! Life has been crazy busy the last few weeks and of course we had to add stress in for good measure.

The Harrow Fair was awesome as always! Although Hubby managed to get himself into trouble and the ER while I was gone. Thank God I have awesome friends around me that did what they could to keep me updated and help keep Hubby safe till I got home. Tomorrow we are doing an intervention for him. Which of course he doesn't know and won't be to happy about. But something needs to be done. Next Monday September 18th I start school for cooking. It's paid. 3 weeks in class, 6 weeks in the kitchen and then apprenticeship for at least 3 weeks. It could lead to a job afterwards. May not stop in every day but will try to stop in as often as I can.

    Good Morning Airport Friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Tuesday and I am up and feeling pretty good. I have decided husband can not cook anymore. He made dinner last night which I love but he seasoned the burgers and the homemade fries which tasted good but this morning I am so swollen I almost cannot get my wedding rings off. I can just see how swollen it is. Nothing super major like losing circulation but I can just tell I am swollen and going to have to drink a lot of water today to fix it. I told him no more seasoning. I do a light seasoning and he loaded it on there. He has high blood pressure so I know the salt is not good for him either. I will just stick to cooking from now on.

@cormierannie - I am glad everyone is doing well. Awesome on getting your strength training and walk in. I hope you have a great day.
@CSEGUIN2 - That is great about schooling and it leading to a new job possibly. I am sorry about hubby. I do hope the intervention is successful. Keep us updated on how both things are going.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday.

    Good Morning Airport Friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Yesterday I had an interesting day. During my workday I was on Facebook in a slow moment and saw a 2005 Ford Taurus for sale for $1300. I messaged the lady if there was anything she knew of that needed to be fixed on it. She said no and then I asked if we could test drive it. We set up a time and I went and test drove it last night with my son. After we test drove it and checked it all out my son then explained that he was looking for his first car and that he is wondering if she will take payments. He is offering to pay $300 to $400 every 2 weeks when he gets paid until it is paid off. She said she did not see a problem with it but she did want to talk to her boyfriend first. So then last night she message and said that they had talked about it and would like to take the night to think it over. We told her we were more than happy for her to do that and just let us know either way please and we totally would not be upset. We just need to know if we need to keep looking for him a car. It was in really decent shape. Some rust but the suspension was good, the alignment was good. The oil looked brand new, there were no knocks or noises coming from the engine. The car shifted ok so I did not notice and issues with the transmission. I was not able to get on the ground and look under the car due to being in my professional work clothes, but I really think it is a good little car. I do hope they say yes. We do have an alternative plan if she says no. My Mom and her husband just won a lot of money at the Casino and I have asked my son to talk to them about borrowing the money from them and then he would pay them every 2 weeks. That is a sold plan and they are family so I am hoping they will say yes. We have never asked to borrow money from them. So there is that option.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday.

I hope you are all doing well this morning. So my son was able to get his car. The lady would not do payments which is ok. She really did not know us and you have to be cautious with people you find on Facebook so we totally get it. My Son reached out to my Mom and StepDad (Nana and Papa) and explained the situation and they gave him the money for the car and he just does the payment arrangement with them versus the woman we did not know. The lady with the car was very thankful that we understood her position and so glad we were able to get the car. So we picked it up last night and my son is going to the Secretary of State (DMV) today to get it plated and titled in his name. He is super excited that he is getting this car all on his own. It has rust and it is a 2005 Ford Taurus so it is old, but he is totally happy that he has his own car. He does not care that it is old. Plus is boyfriend took collision repair at our career center and he learned how to airbrush cars and do car wraps and stuff so they are supposedly going to do some super cool stuff to my son's car. His boyfriend's Dad is also a mechanic so he is going to help my son with any cosmetic things and such that come up while my son owns the car. I am so glad my son has his own car. It will be nice.

Well I hope you all have a great Friday.

@Tabatha_Cain, I think it's AWESOME for kids to have an older car. They tend to treat them better and we ALL remember our first cars. Mine was a Honda Civic, it was semi-automatic. I had to shift between 20 and 25. I LOVED THAT CAR!!! It got my confidence up to get a 5 shift later on. I hope he enjoys it and learns a lot from it. WTG Mom!!! We love watching them grow up, but I know I was terrified when Sarah first learned. WELL OKAY!!! LOL, She's almost 30 and when it's not good out I STILL text her at work "Please be careful going home," and why. As a teen she didn't always "like" that as far as her friends were concerned, but she loved it and still does. She knows she's very precious to me.

We expect to lose power tomorrow, I am totally all set it happens in the winter. We may go to Two Lights to see the waves, but not if many trees are down. Its only 5 miles from where we live. We may just walk outside and watch the harbor not nearly as much fun as the ocean, but time will tell!!

@gintex2021 Hi and welcome to MFP. I guess I am not so much a success story like the others talked about. I’ve actually only been doing the 5% challenges for about a year and a half. Each time the invitations go out, I ask myself if I’m going to do it again? I have had some success on it, don’t get me wrong, but not as much as I’d like. I believe in the program and love the motivation, it’s more the self discipline on my part that causes my screw ups. Over the year and a half that I’ve been doing them, I have learned a lot about myself and have made some friends along the way. The leaders that put this together are amazing and so helpful when life gets tough.

I had read your introduction before I saw your comment on this link. I am amazed at your commitment to exercising every day. Keeping yourself as healthy as possible will only help; it certainly can’t hurt. 😊

By the way, what team are you on? I am with Mission Slimpossible.

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Saturday and neither my husband nor I work today. So we are going to go for a long hike today. That is the plan anyways. I am excited about it. I am thinking of packing a small picnic and then having a nice picnic in the middle of the woods. I think that would be awesome. Joe and I love to take hikes on the weekends. It is just something fun we love to do and it gets us exercise.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - He is so proud of his himself for being able to get this car. He went yesterday and got the car registered into his name and plated with tags. He is away with my car this weekend because I feel until he drives the car around town a bit it would not be good to take it on a long drive. We need to make sure that it doesn't overheat or have issues when it is driven daily first. So he took my car last night for a weekend birthday get away. He will be 19 on Sunday so he rented a hotel room a couple hours away for the weekend and him and his boyfriend and 2 of their friends are sightseeing different museums and stuff like that for his birthday. They all shared the cost of the hotel and I hope he has fun. It is hard to believe my youngest child is now 19. He is an adult. Wow. I am pretty much an empty nester even though he lives at home. He does split his time between home and his boyfriends house so he is mostly gone. It is nice to hear that as the kids get older they still enjoy hearing your words of be safe and let me know when you get there and let me know you are safe.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday.
