HOW IT ALL WORKS: The January challenge runs for five weeks, from December 29th - February 1st.
Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win, and may everyone else get to work on next week!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every single week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leader board. In March we are aiming for every team to hit 50% green every week - let's do this!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you want a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or can be moved to the Support Team for as long as you need. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally. Don't worry! You can always come back even if you get dropped.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone. You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team.
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love Introduce or re-introduce yourselves right away, and let's get January on the road!

Hello Shape Shifters and welcome to @mariamijaz110 ! I hope you are all doing well.
I am one of the captains of the team together with Jessica. We take care of all the data such as your weigh ins and the steps. If you have any questions, let us know! I joined this team in August 2021 and I have found it a very valuable tool on my weight loss journey.
There are a lot of things being offered here; there is the step challenge, the habit tracker, the weekly challenges, your personal weigh in and of course the Shape Shifter group chat itself. The more you engage with the group, the more you will get out of it.
Don't hesistate to reach out when you are having a hard time, chances are you aren't the only one and everyone here is kind and supportive. I often see people feel bad about posting a gain, please don't! We are all aware that weight loss isn't linear. Sometimes the scale just does what it wants, even when you do everything right. So post it, shrug it off and keep going. As long as you put in the work, the results will come, promise. Remember that one day of overeating does not erase any progress!
I wish everyone a great January with lots of victories, big and small!

FAQ for New Shape Shifters Members
How do I post my weigh in?
Userid
(Day of Week) Weigh-in
PW: 204 lbs (previous weight)
CW: 202 lbs (current weight)
LTD: 12 lbs (optional loss to date)
Where is the Weigh in stats spreadsheet?
Start at the Fat2Fit Main Page and under the header information, you’ll see a section at the bottom that says “TO ACCESS THE SPREADSHEETS FOR JANUARY CLICK HERE” followed by the link in blue. Once you click on that link, it will take you to the Summary page. Find Shape Shifters on the tabs at the bottom and click on that and that brings you to the stats page. Also on this page (scrolling down), you’ll find the Step Challenge chart as well. This is where we record your daily steps if you sign up to be part of the monthly step challenge. More info on how to sign up is below! Join us!
How often should I post in the chatroom?
Whenever you have a question, suggestion, story, news announcement or just want to brighten someone's day!! There's never too much...and please share recipes, tips, laughs, challenges, cartoons, pictures of your pets, pictures from walks you've taken, etc...we love it all!!
What if I have to be out of town during my weigh in?
Send a message to one of the Captains (JessicaKrall8 or Pupowl) in the chatroom or in a private message on MFP's mail and let her know your circumstance...if it's just for a week or two, you can be excused from the weigh-in. If you must leave for longer than a month, you may be moved to our support team until you return. When you're ready to come back, send another message and the MODS will move you back to active status.
What happens if I miss a weigh in?
If you're late, you'll be marked as LWI (late weigh in). If you fail to report in at all, you'll be labeled as NWI (no weigh in). After two NWIs, you're put on the drop list if no explanation has been provided. It's always best to let your Captain know what's going on and she'll make sure you're covered.
How do I sign up for the Step Challenge?
Send the Captains a message that you'd like to join (in the monthly team chat thread), provide your daily step goal and share your favorite place to walk. It's that simple! Please be aware though, you're making a commitment to post your steps every 2-3 days, which helps the Captains keep the stats caught up. If you're not willing to do this, please do not sign up. (THANKS!!)
Do I have to re-register each month to remain part of Team Shape Shifters?
No, your membership will carry over month to month. The only place where this is NOT true is for the Step Challenge. You have to sign up each month to participate in it and this gives you the opportunity to adjust your daily step goal.
If I've missed anything or questions arise, just post them! We'll find the information you need as much as possible! Hope this helps!
Welcome!
Jessica

Putting It Out There...
A few years ago, I was afraid to let go of the weight...change has never been easy for me...scared of what it would mean in clothing...where I shop...etc. Boy, if I could go back and smack that Jessica, I sure would...now...after letting my common sense leave my body during the summer and starting to revisit the McDonald's a mile from my house...my weight shot up to 337.6 and this swelling began. I'd give anything to go back and remake THAT decision...
Today, I'm worried NOT to let go of the weight...BUT I shook myself up in early October and got back to brass tacks...NO eating out...NO greasy junk food...cooking at home, loving my air fryer, increasing fruits as a small sweet treat during lunches...NO other sweets...SEVERELY limiting all snack foods...honestly logging EVERY morsel...best decisions I've ever made and since starting that in October, I'm down 32 pounds as of today. Some of that was swelling, but that journey continues...
Had an online telehealth visit a few weeks ago...they sent me to Urgent Care...had a good doctor's exam...they sent me to the ER at Chesapeake General Hospital...had two good exams and an ultrasound...no blockages or blood clots found. Thank God! But, I go to work, trying to move around every hour a little, but by the end of the day, I'm aching and come home to pee all night, rinse and repeat...I'm really tired of it. Can't go the water pill route, as I'm already slightly incontinent and cannot run to the restroom for three hours even fifteen minutes...then drink all afternoon to replenish, so I'm keeping my water intake even throughout the day and only taking tylenol for the aches when they get bad. Trust me, I'm getting better as I no longer have problems in my feet and ankles, so I see progress, but I spend all weekend stressed and worries about what the week will be like. Our VP doesn't like anyone working from home, so that's not an option.
In any case, I'm moving forward, but really tired of this stage. Just praying it ends soon...and am excited about moving out of the 300s in a few weeks. I'm getting close!

Sorry I’m late-I’ve totally lost track of the days. My daughter left this morning but my son is home til NYE. Lots going on. Had a checkup at the Dr on Friday. My blood glucose levels have dropped in the past month or so, but unfortunately it didn’t lead to a corresponding drop in A1c. Going to play around with a few things to see if we can get that sorted. The really sad thing is that the intake nurse decided to measure my height and I have discovered that I am nearly two inches shorter than I used to be! It’s a normal part of aging, the doc is not concerned, but unfortunately I have tipped into the BMI category of obese again, after hovering around the upper end of overweight. I guess it’s true what they say-“I’m not overweight, I’m under tall!”

Hey Shape Shifters; I'm the Team Motivator- also, I'm an empty nester, married 34 years; both me and my husband work remote from home; my son and daughter-in-law live 4 houses down the street from us with their daughter; my youngest son lives in Atlanta, GA with his wife.
My husband is Type 1 diabetic from his Stage 1 pancreatic cancer as they removed 2/3 of his pancreas 2 years ago in April. He is currently in remission from pancreatic cancer but has residual effects from chemo - neuropathy in both feet plus other nerve damage issues from herniated disk 12yrs ago

Thanks @frankwbrown for letting us know about the Garmin challenges - I'll have to look at that - my boys and their wives bought me a new Garmin Vivomove 5 for Christmas; I'm still trying to learn about it as it came last week and they also bought my husband the Garmin GPS Golf watch as my husband golfs at least 1x a week when weather is good here in WI3

Hello Shape Shifters. Time for another intro!
My name is Laura, I am 36 and I live with my cat Tinus in a small village in the Netherlands. I live close to a national park which is awesome for walks, though I recently got a walking pad which I have been using a lot instead. I also enjoy taking photographs of nature (birds are my favorite), reading, drinking obscene amounts of tea, singing, video games and jigsaw puzzles.
I struggle with some health problems that make weight loss and life in general a little challenging, but I try my best! December was a pretty craptastic month for weight loss and I undid all the progress I made in November. Not great, but I am excited to start January fresh and I want to lose 60+ pounds in 2025.- Daily goals: walk, 12.000 steps, 1450 max calories, skin & hair care
- Other goals: gym rings 3x a week, save more money, lose 5 lbs a month

I got picked up by my mom and her uncle yesterday morning. They are both on vacation nearby though they are in two different parks. We went to the house of my mom and her partner first where we ate an oliebol (a Dutch new year thing, a fried dough ball basically) and we opened the presents. I thought everyone knew we were doing presents, but only my mom and I bought stuff which was fine. I bought everyone a jigsaw puzzle and I got some treats for my uncle's dog. My mom got me a book, green tea called Bancha Hojicha and a My Little Pony. I know, I am an adult. I love the old ponies though and I discovered a while back that they remade the original 6 ponies so I would really like them all. The orange one is an original pony I had from when I was young, the grey/pink haired one (Snuzzle) I got from my mom yesterday. Anyway, I felt a little embarrassed to open that gift, but it made me happy so who cares. After the presents, my uncle went to his vacation house to drop of his dog. My mom wanted to see his place too so I suggested we would walk there. I had a headache and it was super warm inside so I wanted to go out, move and get some fresh air! So we got a headstart and walked together to the other house 30 minutes away. It was nice. Then we went back again with my uncle's car to have lunch. They had a really limited selection for non meat eaters, so I just got a grilled cheese sandwich. After lunch, we all walked back to my moms vacation house and chatted some more. Eventually my uncle went back to his house/dog and my moms partner drove me home. I was back with Tinus again around 15:00. My headache was pretty horrible and didn't really get better. Though the rest of the day was relaxing, I ended up going to bed at 19:30. Wow, what a boring story. Almost makes me want to delete everything again! Anyway, happy Monday everyone9
-
Happy Monday, everyone! I went a bit off-plan and didn't log as much as I should have this weekend, but I'm fairly sure I only went over maintenance 1 day (ToM cravings+exhausted+takeout= oops) I'm feeling pretty good today though, so I'm going to take my dogs for a short walk and do some weightlifting.
In the daily life, I'm busy setting things up for the new year (markets, exhibitions, book deadlines, goals etc) so I'm devoting a lot of my time today to that. I'm working on a few really cool art projects and short stories, so I'm enjoying this last bit of 'down time' before the next semester (and my day job!) get started again.5 -
@Pupowl glad you didn't delete your story. And you're right, if the My Little Ponies make you happy who cares what anyone else thinks?!?! 🤷♀️. If they make you smile they have done their job.4

I celebrated Christmas with extended family on Sunday so didnt get to focus on steps. I went on a couple of walks yesterday. I still haven't made it back to the gym. I'm not sick anymore, but have a lingering cough and heavy chest. The gym is not a good idea for a little longer. I'm going to keep doing what I can.6 -
Hello Shape Shifters. Yesterday morning I started with a walk inside on the pad. I have the speed at 5 or 5.5 km an hour which I think is pretty good. I wanted to get 4 kilometers done and it took me 47 minutes. I used to watch a show or movie while walking, but I actually prefer having some upbeat music. It feels faster and more fun that way so I made a little playlist yesterday with my current favourite happy songs to use during the walks. Maybe I will cancel Netflix again. I only got that last month to use during the walking, but otherwise I am not really interested in shows/movies. A lot of it is too scary & violent for me anyway.
In the evening I got two books delivered that are presents for my mom. Her birthday is on Sunday and she will be 70! So crazy. Now she is really hitting 'old' territory for me which is also a little scary. Time is going so fast. 70 is worth celebrating of course so I will be visiting her with my dad. I am already a little stressed about driving there, but I am sure it will be fine. Two more presents are on its way and on Friday I will go to our gift shop to buy one more thing. She deserves to be spoiled because I know for sure that her partner isn't going to.
My head still wasn't feeling very good yesterday so the rest of the day was pretty quiet. Sleeping took a while because some potatohead was shooting off fireworks just when I was about to fall asleep several times. Earplugs tonight for sure! Happy Tuesday everyone5
