The New Water Cooler

I'm glad David was able to surprise his family and that it mostly worked out. Although thinking about it from the point of being a mom home alone with littles it may have been a little scary having someone come up to house she didn't recognize. Glad it worked though!
Caleb stayed home until Christmas Day and then left to go back to Lincoln that evening when we returned from Wayne. I checked in with him last night and he said he is feeling pretty good. Just taking something in the morning and at night. Hopefully he finishes healing well.
Christmas was ok. My folks were in moods that made me uptight and anxious. For instance, when we got there I jumped in with what she needed help with, which was slicing up some summer sausage and cheese and putting crackers out. So I was eating some of the crackers as I was doing it and then she told me to not ruin my dinner. I'm like - why the hell would you put food out if I can't eat it? I'm not 4. And that verbal slap stayed with me all day. Then dad was all over how we were slicing the meat. Which was the ridiculous prime rib roast, when mom said she was 'keeping it simple and only doing a ham'. Then even though the plan we agreed to at Thanksgiving was to do the name draw on the app - after we exchanged those, Michele hauled in a bunch more gifts. I just felt pretty upset about that too.
Then Thursday night Bernie announces he's been invited Duck hunting and he's heading out to do that... ok? I'm like, shrugging. It's not like I can actually say, no it's not ok. You promised me we would go back to Omaha and do some shopping and eat out after Caleb was off my watch. But I guess not since he's been gone and is apparently not coming back until tomorrow and I get to go back to work Monday. I mean I had more days off than I have had in years, but still didn't to do anything I really wanted to do because once again I trusted Bernie to actually follow through with being there for me. Meh
Mmm, bourbon bread pudding sounds good.
I hope your Facebook thing is ok.0 -
I changed my password on FB. Weird that FB didn't report any problems with my security. I checked my settings and they said my password was secure. I changed it anyway.
Your story about your Mom's comment on the appetizers made me chuckle. That was so my Mom before her dementia. She was more concerned about all 2 of her daughters appearances (hair, weight, clothes) than who we were as people. She bought pop, chips, cookies...but if she saw you eat or drink them the lecture about weight began. She criticized if we were heavy and did not approve if we were thin. Nothing pleased my Mom. I tend to not serve appetizers before our Thanksgiving meal because I have people arrive within an hour of the meal so the day does not drag on forever. Also, if my niece's two kids are here, they hover over the snacks and drop it all over the place. My sister does appetizers on Christmas and they are tasty but everyone hovers around them too.
Would your sister or a friend go to Omaha with you to eat out and shop? Bernie seems like follow through is not his strength at all. Sorry you were let down.
I'm making it a goal to increase my attendance at the Y each week. I want to get to a minimum of 3 classes and maybe a bonus of 4. I loved the studio yoga on Saturday and hope to go again this week if I can get on the class list. We have to sign up in advance for studio classes. I don't have Power Book Bags until 1/13 so I went to an 11:15 Aquafit class today. One of my favorite teachers was teaching it. Pretty much 50-55 minutes of intense cardio so calories burned this morning! She is subbing tomorrow at my 9am class so I will have her again. I need to whittle away some inches even if the scale goes no where.
I'm glad C is feeling better. David probably should have informed Chantrelle he was arriving in a Santa suit and surprised the girls.0 -

Happy New Year!
Here’s to hopeful possibilities in 2025.
I am so grateful for this connection we started years ago.0 -
I hope you had a great New Year's Eve. We were low key here. Russ and I made pork/veggie spring salad rolls and home made cranberry cream cheese wontons. It was fun filling and rolling. We also cooked a few pot stickers and some coconut shrimp. Our evening dinner was these appetizers. I watched some shows and read my book and Russ relaxed in his recliner and was in bed by 10. I went to bed at 11.
I have been to aqua fit 3 times this week. Tomorrow I will take a break since I want to make my sourdough everything bagels. My left knee could use a break anyway. I am signed up for studio yoga on Saturday.
Next week I have a hair cut and my annual mammogram. Ugh!!! I need the hair cut badly but don't look forward to the mammogram. I always am waiting for the hammer to hit me on the head and test positive. My Mom and sister had breast cancer. Lynn and I have not had it and hope not to.
Cold weather approaching. Not as cold as what we endured in MN but Lake MI adds dampness to the air and the teens can feel very cold. Penetrates my bones...
You and I have been chatting since 2010!!!!0 -
Your New Year’s Eve foods you made sounds delicious!
I just got a wild hair to try and reorganize my closet and vanity. I’m no closer to getting a new one but I can try to clean up and declutter. If I’m successful that will make me feel good.
Wishing you an easy and successful squish.
Weird week with a day off on a Wednesday. But at least tomorrow is Friday
Trying to not let my holiday five pounds stick around for six months like it did last year.0 -
Watching the news and weather and am thinking of you. How is the storm affecting you in NE? We are outside the boundaries of the one they are talking about on the news. We continue to get snow but haven't had a storm since December. Russ and I hope we have decent driving conditions when we head south end of January. It seems we hear about tornadoes and snow storms daily.
I was just thinking that I need to go through my closet, reorganize, give clothes away, etc. I still have 4-5 boxes in the pole barn to go through and then cart stuff to the thrift shop.
I tried making sourdough bagels but they were a flop. I tossed them in the garbage. I did make ham and bean soup from my ham hock broth. We ate it for an early dinner today. It turned out pretty good. Russ is sick with a cough, congestion and respiratory stuff so he is very tired, napping and not eating much.
I went to yoga in the studio today and am pretty sore tonight. It feels so good by the end of class but I can sure tell what parts of my body are aging and have tightness and stress. I made it to the Y 4 times this week! Three water classes and 1 yoga. Not bad...
I haven't gotten on the scale to see what I gained over the holiday. I'm just focusing on increased exercise and what I eat. The scale ruins my progress in feeling good about me.
I have a mammogram on Monday(annual) and a haircut on Wednesday. If we have good roads, I will be at the Y the other days. I also need to get back to knitting Layney's poncho. My hands don't hurt now from knitting too much so I can start again.
I hope you have a nice weekend.

Great job on getting to the Y.
This weather system is moving through right now. We are in a zone for anywhere between 1-6 inches. I’m certainly hoping for less. And definitely none of the ice that further south is getting. I know we need the moisture just hate driving in it.
I worked my butt off in my closet and bathroom today. Some organizers I ordered arrived. I got under my bathroom sink and kitchen sink cleaned out and looking better. And my closet is shaping up. I am mostly working on the storage side of the closet and have gotten it fixed so that I can get the towels in there since I don’t have a linen closet and have always just had them in a laundry basket. And the other stuff looks so much better too. I have some more organizers coming that I’m hoping will give me better options for my tshirts and pjs that also mainly live in a laundry basket. Super sweaty and sore but feel pretty good0 -
Keep trying on the bagels. They sound yummy if you can figure them out0
