Guess what Shari! We are cheering for the same team! We have always liked the Blue Jays but this year we are especially liking them because of their rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage, who is from our area. He grew up less than 30 miles from where we live and is very popular in this area, having gone from AAA baseball to the major league in such a short time. He is well known in the area and seems to be a great guy.

I had a great day today, even though my plans for the to do list were moved around a bit by one unexpected visitor. I have learned how important it is to be flexible these days. I stayed well on plan within my points. My motivation has returned. Now to hold on to it long term!

That is too funny that we are cheering for the same team. I think that Trey is such an amazing pitcher and so fun to watch. I didn't know anything about him until you shared, now knowing how popular he is in your area endears him even more. What a fun fact.

I am not quite back to my plan, but I am getting closer. I know we can do it!

What a great game tonight for the Jays and Yesavage! He is amazing and likely has a bright future.

I weighed in today for the first time since April. I am down 7.5 pounds since then. I am very happy about this and glad that I felt up to standing and balancing on the scale. I didn't do great today with my food. I was exceptionally hungry and caved more than once. Back to plan tomorrow with no excuses!

Paula! A loss of 7.5 pounds is so so good. Congratulations. Woohoo!

I wasn't able to watch the game last night since I was at youth. I am sad that I missed Yesavage pitching. I really enjoy watching him.

I am off for a girl's trip from after work tonight until Saturday. We are going to a Nordic spa about 5 hours away. It should be so much fun. I gave myself permission to take a break from my food plan and will get back to it on Sunday. I will stick my more strict plan for three weeks which lead right up to our trip to Mexico. I plan to lose a couple of pounds during those three weeks, so I will be strict to stick to my plan.

DW, Your post is blank. Maybe you fell asleep while writing. I can understand how that happens. I sort of nodded off while on the phone with my friend Carol a few days ago. Hope all is well with you!

Shari, enjoy your spa trip. It sounds delightful!

I did ok today but still could have done better. I logged each and every bite and went over my points but have enough "weeklies" to cover my over doing it.

Hello! I’m checking in earlier today since, clearly, evenings aren’t working for me! Paula, you are correct- I dozed off mid post. Usually I fall asleep sitting in a chair before I start.

Paula, huge congratulations on your weight loss and successful Dr appointment!! Shari, I hope your spa trip is amazing!!
It has been a rough week at work but my sister weekend starts this coming Friday after work and goes through 11/11, so I will have several days off. I got my nails done this morning and went to the gym with a coworker this afternoon. On to some cleaning and enjoying the extra hour of sleep tonight! I hope you both have a wonderful Sunday!!

A quick check in tonight as I stayed up late watching the final game of the World Series. Proud of the Jays and wish they won. Glad the extra hour is tonight.

DW, I love that you and your sister get together the way you do. Such a blessing! Will look forward to learning of your adventures.

I have had a busy couple days getting ready for our church group meeting here on Sunday. Surprisingly (and fortunately) the Prez has been very good this time. We have had minimal contact in prep for the meeting, and all but one of our conversations was pleasant and easy. I am so looking forward to Sunday evening when everyone is gone and John and I can relax and enjoy doing whatever we want to do. Prepping for things like this wears me out sometimes.

I have returned safely from our Nordic Spa weekend. I had a wonderful time. So much good conversation, laughter, and relaxation.

I am also very proud of the Blue Jays and hope the team isn't being too hard on themselves this morning. I kept reminding myself that watching is entertainment and I shouldn't get too emotional.

I am back to plan today and have 19 days to see how much more in shape I can get before our trip to Mexico. I have a lot to do to prepare the trip in relation to work and Christmas since we will be gone for 2 weeks.

Welcome back Shari! Sounds like you shared in all the important ingredients for a girlfriends get away. And with your Mexico trip coming soon, I am sure you are quite busy and excited these days.

Our church group meeting went very well, and the Prez has been super-well behaved. Earlier this year John and I dropped one of the projects we were doing every year, and she hasn't been happy about that. But today at her (my old) church she found some people who will take on a very similar project. We are all delighted about this. I didn't eat much of anything at the meeting as I wasn't hungry at all. The Prez was a big help with serving and cleaning up, as she often is, but this time she was exceptionally pleasant too. I was super exhausted after the meeting and rested/slept after everyone left. Tomorrow I plan to drive John to a Miracle League board meeting. I hope to sleep a little later to have sufficient energy to make that drive.

Yesterday was quite full as we visited Jim's dad who is still in the hospital. Then we went to the gym before visiting my parents. I was too lazy to make dinner by the time we got home so we snacked. That was not a wise decision as I didn't stick to my meal plan. I should be able to do it today.

Paula, it sounds like the meeting went very well and the Prez isn't causing relational issues. That is wonderful. I will say a prayer for you as I know that driving can be quite difficult for you these days.

Shari, You sure have your share of "sick calls" to make these days. I know that doing so is an important responsibility for those we care about. Thank you for your prayers! I did ok driving and as usual was kind of exhausted by the time we got home. Walking to and from the van in the garage is tough but today seemed less draining. John's meeting went long. I used the time to catch up with a friend by phone. I also enjoyed seeing some of the board members when I dropped him off and picked him up. I miss the days when I was so much more active with the ML.

We do seem to have a lot of visits to the hospital. DH had a call from Walter asking him to call an ambulance for Tony. It was in the night, so DH didn't ask Walter enough questions. He called for an ambulance and we will need to find out why today. We just stopped in on them both earlier that evening, so I was surprised that Tony had to go the hospital.

I ate better yesterday and plan to do even better today!

Paula, I am glad that you managed yesterday. A phone call is a great way to pass the time while the meeting is taking place.

Hope the news on Tony isn't anything serious. I had a fairly busy day today and didn't really pay much attention to my food choices. Our phone landline went out for a while but is working again on its own, without the technician needing to come as originally planned for a repair for Wednesday. Also, I will be having a diagnostic mammogram sometime because I discovered a small lump on my left breast. I am handling this ok so far since my last lump about 2 years ago on my right breast was benign. I expect after the diagnostic mammo I will have to go for an ultrasound but one step at a time for now. Please pray for good results for me.

Paula- I am glad that you are vigilante looking for lumps. I have and will pray that this lump is benign too. I am glad you are not worried!

Tony was driven to a country hospital about an hour away. We won't be able to visit him. He has been diagnosed with pneumonia again. So it's either never clearing up, or I suspect it is due to the difficulty he has swallowing. I looked up what could cause recurring pneumonia, and that was one of the reasons. Tony has had a swallowing issue for years. What I read said that when people have trouble swallowing, they can aspirate small amounts of liquids or food and that causes the issue.

Jim's dad fell again. He is still in the hospital. He was trying to get out of bed on his own. He is very confused so he probably didn't even know where he was. We are praying that he can pass in his sleep. He is 94, with dementia that is progressing, and his quality of life has really declined. It will take weeks for his ribs to heal, and with with the extra fall, he may be starting all over.

Tony's situation is concerning especially with the swallowing issue. I know some speech therapists provide swallowing therapy. Has Tony had any therapy for this? It might be a service that could come to him in the hospital as well as at home. Sorry about Jim's dad too. I am sure at his advanced age his healing will be slow. I can add him to my prayer list. I don't think I have his name now, even if I did have it previously.

I enjoyed a busy day working on more stuff for the church group. It kept me occupied from stressing over the lump. I hope to get a date for the diagnostic mammo. I called today but the central scheduling was closed by the time I got the doctor's order. I think when I know when it is and where I have to go, I will relax a little again. I will have to have Craig take me. I didn't do great with eating today. I craved and caved on some sweets. Tomorrow a friend/neighbor is coming to celebrate her birthday. We have been trying to find a convenient time for both of us for well over a month. Her birthday was in late September. We will order delivery from a local Italian restaurant (her choice). I haven't decided yet what I will order.

Jim's dad is Alec. He isn't improving. Yesterday when DH visited, he spent time with his dad, but hs dad wasn't really able to have meaningful conversation. Please be praying he can peacefully pass. Jim and his family are going to have a meeting on Friday. They want to see the power of attorney and the medical directives that were made when the parents made their wills. His mom is very reluctant to share the information with her kids. Hopefully she will, she is showing signs of demential too.

I continue to pray for you Paula. You can take great comfort in knowing that God sees you and he knows what that lump is. He is here for you to lean on and will walk you through each day while you wait for the test. I pray for you to feel peace each day.

I had a bad eating day yesterday too. I need to get back to sticking to my eating plan.

Shari, Alec is now back on my prayer list. I also pray that all goes well with the family meeting. These aren't easy to do even under the best circumstances. I greatly appreciate your prayers. Your kind words of support and comfort mean a great deal to me and are much needed and appreciated. I was able to schedule the diagnostic mammo and an ultra sound for January 14, the earliest opening available. The scheduler understood that this seems like a long time to wait and placed me on a wait list in the event a cancellation opens up an earlier appointment. I understand how busy these facilities are and am just relieved knowing I have a date on the calendar for this.

My friend's birthday lunch here went well. She works hard at home and at (my old) church. Her DH is in his 76 and is slowing down which stresses her out (she is 71). I enjoyed seeing her relax with me and John and Buster. We converted her from not being a "dog person" to loving Buster over these past few years. What a change!! I didn't track my food and feel fairly certain I exceeded my points today. I think most (or all) of my food related social stuff is over for at least the next few weeks so time focus and stay on track.

  • shariletts
    shariletts Posts: 1,272 Member

Paula, the fact that your appointment is a couple of months away suggests that they are not not concerned about it, but still want to make 100% certain. Here in Canada, if they are concerned, you get moved to the front of the line.

Nothing eventful happened yesterday, but I do need to get back to tracking. I forgot yesterday and then didn't close out my day well with wise snack choices.

The place where I am going for the mammo and ultra sound is for only problems like mine, not for standard annual mammos. I think everyone who goes there has issues like mine. It is the same facility I went to when I had the ultra sound following my abnormal mammo 2 years ago. I remember my friend Carol had to wait quite a while for various stages of her diagnostics too. I do hope that I can get an earlier appointment in the event there is a cancellation. I am doing my best to not stress too much however, especially since 2 years ago it was good news.

Today was a restful sleepy kind of day here. I didn't track but I didn't overeat either. I did a few things but also gave myself permission to relax. Craig might come tomorrow to work on the massive amount of leaves that have fallen on the property. Just about all of the leaves are now off the huge maple tree in the backyard.

    Here's to a wonderful weekend!

Paula- I will pray be praying that you can get in sooner!

Not much to report on my day yesterday and I am not sure what I will do today yet. We have had our first snow, so that is sad. I won't be walking outdoors as often anymore. I am not a fan of winter.

  • Paulawilldo
    Paulawilldo Posts: 1,451 Member

Thanks Shari. I am such a baby about winter weather I am also praying that the weather on Jan. 14 (or whenever I end up going) is favorable for driving as the breast center where I am going is almost 30 minutes away. I, too, am not a fan of winter weather. I smiled when you said it is sad that you had your first snow. I have felt sad just with the arrival or much cooler weather!

I did very well with eating on track today for the 1st time in a while. I have healthy meals planned for the next few days. Tonight John and I watched Downtown Abbey the Finale movie. It streamed free on Peacock. We enjoyed the Downtown Abbey series on PBS over the years and saw the 2 movies released prior to this one. We thought this movie was very good too. I expect we will watch it again sometime. Tomorrow I hope to rest and read.

Jim's dad will not be going home again. He needs too much care and his mom just can't provide the support he needs. His confusion is growing but he knows who we are which is good. He will be moved once a bed opens up in a care facility, and then he will be put on a waiting list for one that is preferred by the family. We want him to be closer so it's easy for his mom to visit. She is still driving, but I don't think she will be able to much longer. She is 92.

I was eating well all day, but after church DH turned into Chick fil a and I didn't have the will power to not have a chicken sandwich. Today I am making cabbage rolls with a friend and we always share a bottle of wine over the course of the day while making them and then enjoy them for dinner. I have it all tracked, and it's a tight fit!

  • Paulawilldo
    Paulawilldo Posts: 1,451 Member

So sorry that Jim's dad now requires such a higher level of care. I will continue to pray for him and you & Jim as well as you all adjust to this new situation. Remind me of Jim's mom name too and I will add her to my prayer list. Amazing that she is still driving.

I started out doing well today but got lazy about tracking. I wasn't way off plan but not nearly as compliant as I know I can be. The day flew by quickly once again. I cooked a Mediterranean stir fry today because John requested it. It took me a little longer because of cutting up some veggies like tomatoes & peppers and that can be challenging for me. I used ground turkey instead of ground beef which the recipe calls for but it still turned out ok. I also included mushrooms, olives, and feta cheese (a favorite of John's). We have plenty left over for Monday, so my extra time in the kitchen is paying off.

Tomorrow the family will get a call from the social worker to find out about which the top three care facilities are. That was decided on last night. It took some convincing Jim's mom (her name is Peggy), that we didn't think driving to Sherwood Park on the Freeway was a good option. A friend told her that the facility is a really good and where her parents were. But she lives in that city and isn't a 92 year old driver. It will be snowy and cold soon, so that just didn't make sense. We are glad she chose otherwise. She thinks she will be able to drive for the next year and a half at least, as that is when her license expires. But it can be revoked if her health changes.

I wasn't on plan at all yesterday as I met a youth for lunch and then Jim's family met for dinner. Today should be much better! I need to it be. Your stir fry has a lot of good things in it, I am it was, and will be wonderful.

Hello! I am home and recovering from my extended sister’s weekend. Paula, I will also be praying that an earlier appointment will open up for your mammogram and also praying for good results! Shari, I will also be praying for you and your DH and his family!
I had a wonderful time spending time with my sister and also did quite a bit of Christmas shopping. It snowed there, which slowed us down but the main roads were clear. My sister spent the night here and went home today. I’ve been getting prepared for the rest of the work week. Amazingly my weight wasn’t up after all the restaurant food. I hope you both have a great Wednesday!

DW, Thank you for your prayers. So glad you enjoyed your time with your sister…and getting such a head start on Christmas shopping is great. I haven't done anything yet in that department. Congrats on holding your weight too!

Shari, Prayers for your in-laws and for you and Jim as you navigate such changes with them.

I did well with eating and tracking today. Hoping the trend continues. It has been extremely windy here again. Some areas lost electricity, but we didn't lose ours today. Some areas north of us had morning snow that turned slippery but still no snow here yet. Happy about that.

Shari, I hope all is well for you and your family.

I had another very good day. I was very well rested which I think makes a huge difference in how my day goes in general. My food choices were tracked, and I am well within my point range again. It was an easy day for eating for me, no cravings and no real hunger pangs. I worked on some small chores for our church group and am delighted to be able to check them off my list. On Thursday I plan to tackle some household chores I have been avoiding.

I will have another rushed morning. And reason is a cat! I don't remember if I told you about the cat we saw on our property about a week ago and when we called for help it had disappeared. It showed up again last two nights ago when we went outside to look at the Northern Lights. It has a broken leg and is terribly skinny. It is clearly a house cat. We brought it in for the night, and I don't do cats, so it has been quite an adventure. Grumpy cat is a ferrel cat and is outdoors. It is amazing this cat made it through for so long with out getting caught by a coyote. We have called animal control for help, but no return call. I guess our shelters are full of cats and they are not taking anymore in. I am hoping we get a call back since this one needs medical care. But my fear is that if the shelters are full, she would be put down. But who will want to take a cat that has a broken leg.
