  • Check out dancer pads that stick to the bottom of your foot, I found mine on Amazon. My sesamoid is in pieces and my dr can't tell if it's a true break or if I was born that way. Regardless I wouldn't want surgery, so I've found ways to manage. One big help is running in shoes that have enough cushion at the ball of the…
  • If he doesn't order the full thyroid panel, consider getting it yourself. The place I usually order is healthcheckusa.com. It's like pulling teeth to get my doctor to also order free t4 and free t3, which is way more useful than the TSH test, imo.
  • My favorite is this 3 day a week training plan. It allows for cross training, is very specific and did make me race faster: http://www.runnersworld.com/race-training/3-day-half-marathon-training-plan
  • I do this, I run a few miles in the morning before work. Instead of using my regular soaps, I just use a gentle baby soap so that my skin doesn't dry out too much. Then at night I shower like usual.
  • I also like to run to techno. Recently, though, I've added in Fall Out Boy - I love the red album (Folie a Deux, I think?) for my long runs.
  • I use tea tree oil (for the antifungal/antibacterial properties) and it seems to help. Also - I wear flip flops or other shoes that can breathe a ton all summer and have no problem at all with athlete's foot. As soon as the cooler weather rolls around and I have to start wearing socks and 'real' shoes again, athlete's foot…
  • Haha... I love this "warm things not made of salad" - I've definitely been there!!
  • I get Drunken Noodles with extra veggies. I don't think it has coconut milk in it, but I always expect a gain the next day due to water retention because it has tons of sodium!!
  • Adam, feel free to add me. I don't put much on my own feed but do respond to posts from people that I follow. I am not trans but have a teen that is so I am familiar with your journey.
  • I think that weight can have a big effect on speed. I think that training has a greater effect, but just with a loss of 5 lbs I've noticed that I can run faster while my training was pretty much the same. Look up an Excel file called Jack Daniel's Training tables. There are a LOT of data in the spreadsheet - be sure to at…
  • pacmacmom, you can delete it through either the fitbit app or the fitbit dashboard on the pc. In the app, from your dashboard click on either of the tiles that take you to 'food' (mine are '##/## you are over/under budget' or ### calories left), then long-press the entry you wish to delete. A box will pop up that says…
  • I had a 3 mile run, 2 hard boiled eggs, one tarte original yogurt (interesting, I'll have to try it again to see if I like it), a bit of granola and a dove dark chocolate :)
  • I went through various types of shoes and have recently settled on the Brooks Pure line. I really like the Pure Flow for training and Pure Connect for races.
  • I use body glide (or another brand - maybe Gold Bond - that is the same product) if I'm not wearing compression shorts.
  • Land's End has a very nice collection of suits - one piece or mix and match 2 piece (including tankini style and swim skirts) that are modern but modest/comfortable - hopefully they are still selling them despite the season. As for feeling comfortable - that takes practice  I always remind myself that I don't sit…
  • I like first thing in the morning, but have limited time to do anything unless I want to wake up at 4am. I have made a new habit recently, though, to get up with enough time to run with my dog for 2 or 3 miles and then shower before I have to go to work. I still do more intense workouts a few times a week after work, but…
  • Me too, so cute!
  • My favorite running buddy... She tolerates a couple miles 'easy', but her favorite runs are when I go fast! (Sorry the pic is so big, not sure how to make it smaller.)
  • And my dog loves it too. especially running on trails! [/quote] Cute dog! My dog loves to run, too, though I haven't yet taken her on any trails (I've only had her since May).
  • I lift/do body weight exercises more in the winter than I do in late summer/fall when I am training for things. I don't really enjoy lifting much at all - though I do enjoy the results once I get into it. So in 'training' season, I generally just do misc core work and strength exercises that target any problem areas I'm…
  • I get this occasionally while running, more often at the end of a long run when I start to feel tired. For me it's related to posture and/or tightening up my neck and shoulder muscles. If I make a conscious effort to relax my shoulders and neck I can usually head off any pain.
  • I walk my dogs every day, between 2 and 4 miles usually. Sunday: Rest (unless I have a race) Monday: am - Run 2 miles, pm - run 3 - 4 miles, speed intervals Tuesday: am - Run 2 miles, pm - 1hr gymnastics class Wednesday: am - Run 2 miles, pm - 3 - 5 mile tempo run Thursday: am - Run 2 miles, pm - 1hr gymnastics class…
  • The majority of those numbers are accurate for me, which makes me really motivated to lose the 5 lbs I've been wanting to get off because of the predicted drop in race pace :)
  • I am 35, 5'1" and 115 lbs. My goal weight is 105, to allow for a 5 lb variation above that because that's how my weight goes :) I am an athlete and have found that I perform better if I'm at the lower end of my healthy range and frankly I liked how I looked at 107.
  • I agree with massage/foam roller and maybe a chiropractor, along with core work. Imbalances in the hips and core can cause all sorts of downstream and upstream problems, many of the downstream problems are amplified by the demands of running. If you go to a massage therapist you can let them know your concerns and ask them…
  • Zucchini lasagna (using the zucchini in place of noodles)... Zoodles! Chocolate chip walnut cookies with shredded zucchini (google 'zucchini cookies'), zucchini bread, roll up lunch meat and cheese in strips of zucchini, give some to your dog (for some reason one of my dogs goes crazy for it!)
  • Body Glide (or Arm and Hammer's version that you can get at Walmart near the bandages) is fabulous for preventing blisters and friction.
  • I say that unless she is doing something that will lead to an injury, she should do it which ever way feels best for her. Maybe give the other way a try and if it's not for her, go back to 'her' way. I run races and see many different versions of form, I've never thought of any as right or wrong.
  • At a few different Meijer around here hummus in a stand-alone refrigerated bin/stand along with specialty cheeses in the produce section - they have a ton of different kinds. I can't picture where it is at Walmart, but I have purchased it there before - probably also around the produce section. At Kroger it's near the…
  • My favorite not-as-terrible fast food is Subway, minus bread and using egg white as the 'bread'. Funny looks sometimes from the sandwich maker, but pretty good! Others are plain grilled chicken from McD's - for me no bread or only 1 side of the bread. From Wendy's - same as McDs or sometimes I'll get a spicy chicken,…
