  • I exercise nearly every day, mostly running. I just listen to my body in deciding on intensity.
  • I miss Mary Berry but agree that Prue Leith is about as good a replacement as possible.
  • I am really glad I bought a Concept 2 rowing machine for my home gym. Pretty much a full body workout, very low maintenance, and should last forever.
  • Overnight oats with berries and plain greek yogurt... and a lot of decaf coffee.
  • This thread reminds me of the uncountable number of times I have seen new people at the gym that seemed to have this sort of thinking. People who were obviously new to exercise, and definitely new to that gym, trying to go all-out like someone in great shape. A month (sometimes a week) later they were nowhere to be found.…
  • This seems like such a strange question. Why do you care if people read your emails or listen in to your phone conversations or dig through your trash or see all of the pictures on your phone? If I am asking for help and having people look at my diary helps then I'll make it public. Otherwise why would I want to open…
  • My #1 is Quest Hero vanilla caramel.
  • Since my teens my "secret eating" has been at night. I lost 30-50 lbs a couple of times in my life. The latest was 50 lbs 5 years ago that I have mostly kept off. I'm currently up 8 lbs from where I wanted to maintain and it's definitely that nighttime secret eating. I agree that letting people know about it can help.…
  • I really don't understand the mindset of weighing less often because of fluctuations. There are still fluctuations in a weekly weigh in, you just have less data/information. If you happen to weigh on a low weight (dehydrated for example) day this week and then next week you weigh after a salty day (so more hydrated and…
  • The OP is making the mistake of thinking if some is good, then tons must be better. It doesn't work that way. Whatever the ideal amount of tea is must be WAAAAY less than the maximum safe amount. Drink a reasonable amount. Someone else mentioned fluoride, here's a story from several years ago that I remembered reading.…
  • Agreed. I am a runner and my Apple Watch usually says my resting heart rate overnight is 39-41... so there are definitely periods under 40. When my doctors/nurses see my resting heart rate they ask if I'm a runner and when I say "yes" they aren't worried at all. If you're worried about it ask a doctor. That's the sort of…
  • Do you only drink water or other zero calorie liquids? Some people forget to include calories they drink.
  • I'm at 9.2 million meters on my C2 and have also only cleaned/lubricated the chain and wiped down the beam.
  • My gym used to have WaterRowers and I liked them. A couple of years ago I did research before buying a rower for my home and it came down this way (based on my memory): - some people had issues with WaterRowers eventually starting to leak - Concept2 is ranked a little higher in Consumer Reports, but both were pretty high -…
  • https://www.wired.com/story/are-running-or-cycling-actually-risks-for-spreading-covid-19/ Here you go.
  • I don't think there is any debate on if it is helpful for stopping the spread of the virus. It may not be very helpful for the person wearing the mask, it is very helpful in keeping the mask-wearer from spreading their germs. You wear a mask to protect others, not yourself. If everyone wears a mask then everyone is…
  • I have seen studies that found runners spread germs WAAAAY further than normal social distancing distances... I think it was up to 30'.
  • There is no frequency of weighing that does away with the variability. If you weigh yourself once a week/month/year you will still have some heavy weigh-ins and some light weigh-ins, you'll just have less data to work with in spotting trends. I think it's smartest to be consistent (meaning weigh yourself on the same scale,…
  • 52 year old male BMI of 25 RHR of 40 over-night according to my smart watch Blood pressure of 115/70 I do cardio for an hour pretty much every day, mostly running Edit to add - some of RHR probably is genetic. My mom is 79 and has never exercised and her RHR is around 60.
  • Not always possible. I often run on the local middle school track. I run on the right side of the track and that means I'm next to a fence some of the time. If someone is passing me I have nowhere to go to get away from them. Most people are good about staying away but there are a few clueless people out there still.
  • People always say "tighten up your logging", which is fine, but it really means you have to start eating less. The good news is the OP now knows her maintenance calories. If she wants to lose 0.5 lbs a week she knows exactly how much she has to lower calories (250 calories a day). Or on the other side of the equation she…
  • I use my Apple watch and the Nike Running Club app. Works well for me.
  • I figured it out, not my knees getting worse or Brooks making crappier shoes. While I'm very careful in keeping track of mileage on my running shoes I wasn't paying attention at all to how old my non-running shoes are. Replacing my running shoes didn't help so I finally realized the problem is my old shoes I wear all day…
  • This. The problem is mainly being overweight, if you stay at that weight but “clean up” your diet you might see a little improvement but you’ll probably still be pre-diabetic. Likewise exercising but staying the same weight will help some but probably not be enough. My advice is to focus on losing weight the easiest and…
  • Yes, l log on Thanksgiving and other holidays but I don't hold myself to any specific calorie goal. If I'm over by 1,000 or 2,000 or whatever that's fine, I just want to know. If I don't log it's like it doesn't count... just pig-out. If I know I'm going to plug everything into my phone I will at least see how good/bad I…
  • You probably also have a bunch of sugar packets in the break room that people don't compulsively eat. It isn't sugar, it is the taste. Skittles and Starburst aren't as tasty as most of the other Halloween candy (according to many/most people, including me).
  • Any hair on top of your head is a good thing, grey or not. I'm perfectly happy to be going grey as long as there are some hairs up there. I'm not as happy about the grey hairs showing up in my nose... they stand out more than brown ones in my nose.
  • My basement/home gym includes a Concept2 rower and an antique Stairmaster I bought years ago reconditioned. Used reconditioned gym equipment can be cheaper and more durable than new, home targeted stuff. I like the Stairmaster but if I were doing it today I’d probably go with an elliptical so my wife might use it too.
  • For me either black or with a little cacao powder (no sugar, just ground up cacao, 60 calories in 2.5 tbsp/14g)
