  • I think just try to take it one day at a time. It's so hard and so overwhelming, I totally get it. I fight every day to not just "give up and eat whatever I want for the next week." Can you promise yourself (and us on here) that you'll log EVERY day, no matter how bad or good it is? Sometimes, just making that commitment…
  • You'll never know if you don't try, so go for it!! I know it's intimidating, but if you can cover the distance in ANY time, you're already a success!!
  • What about taking a bubble bath or giving yourself a manicure?
  • I guess you could go with which one YOU like the best. We could all give you our opinions, but at the end of the day it's really about something that helps you be your best self. I'm a big fan of MFP because it fits my lifestyle and is something I enjoy using!
  • Ohhhhh, stick it to those guys!!! Gosh, I'd love to see you just show them where to stick their bottles of tequila while you sip your wine! Good luck on your journey, you can do it!!
  • What about yoga? Do you have cable with on-demand service? My on-demand offers a wide variety of free workouts. Target also sells some inexpensive videos that you could use with your equipment. Or shoot, just do whatever feels good and what you have time for. With everything you are juggling, every little bit of movement…
  • It's so cute! I see 2 eyes and a mouth....and no, I'm not drinking!!
  • Start small and don't put too much pressure on yourself! You already took the first step and got back on here, so that's HUGE! Now, just try your absolute best and don't get too down on yourself if things don't go perfectly. We are all here for you!!
  • Bagels with low-fat cream cheese are my favorite go-to. A latte with skim milk also helps me out.
  • Hang in there - it's HARD, and when you finally snap into taking care of yourself it's hard to see other people choose not to do that. You sound amazing and strong, so stay both of those things and be true to yourself. Will your wife consider getting help (of any kind....professional counseling, joining a group for…
  • Hal Higdon has great training suggestions for any distance. My schedule: M: Run 5-10mi T: Run 5-10mi W: Run 3-7mi & lift Th: Run 3-7mi F: Rest S: Run 12 - 25mi S: Xtrain & lift
  • Have you ever tried the Special K chocolatey delight bars? They are 100cal and you get 2 of them.....and they are YUM. Now, I know they are processed and blah blah blah, but they are a great thing to have on hand when you NEED something sweet/chocolatey. Also, they fit nicely into a purse. I do think, as many…
  • I love it, it's so fun and easier on the joints.....so, if you like it, go for it! I usually use the arc for cross training from running, but it's been a good & loyal friend for me!
  • Wow, I guess I'm the outlier here, but I'm divorced after losing 60lbs and keeping it off. My ex-husband actually did the opposite, so as I lost weight he gained it. It was a super hard experience - we were married for 8 years after I lost the weight and while I can't say that they weight loss was the ONLY thing that…
  • I've definitely had this happen - and it's shocking!! I think you'll be ok if you just get back to your solid eating habits. You've got this....drink water, and don't forget to rest!!
  • Hugs, this is hard - I feel so awful for your situation. BUT, congrats, you took the first step and reached out to all of us. You fit in here, so we can be your people until you find some "real" ones. :)
  • Oh, definitely DEFINITELY put those calories in. Even better, put the time and pace you run into MFP and let it tell you the calories that you burned (Garmin isn't always as accurate). I will tell you, from personal experience, that if you don't replace your calories from running AND operate at a deficit, your running will…
  • I hear you completely, and it's frustrating. Everything those who have written above me is true - especially that jealousy is a waste of energy. But, it is a life long commitment......if this is the only thing that works for you. It's been 10 years since I've lost 60lbs, but each and every day is a battle for me, still,…
  • What about packing your lunch and bringing it with you? I know it's not free, but look at it from a cost/benefit standpoint: would you rather eat free junk or your own, healthy food? Also, what about taking the sweets and saying "thank you" to your baker buddy, but wrapping them up and saving it for later? Or, simply…
  • I don't know if this is "appropriate" advice, but how about chewing some peppermint gum, drinking a big glass of water or coffee, or making a mug of no-calorie chicken broth to get you through those tough times?
  • Thanks, everyone! I've been using MFP for several years, but am just now coming into the "community." It's reassuring to know that I'm not the only one that hates seeing red.....but, I guess I'll just have to move past that.
  • I've tried raw potatoes and sweet potatoes as fuel during long runs.....they were rough on my stomach!!
  • I get the tough love feelings - it's hard to be patient with people sometimes and hear them drone on and on about a problem. This is especially true if they aren't trying to do anything about it!! Yet, some people NEED to be heard and NEED to vent....it's their coping mechanism. The good news about a community like this is…
  • Love CEP......also, have you used a stick to massage them post-run? CEP are a bit more than you'd like to spend, but they'll last longer than the cheapies that can sometimes rip from my fingernails!
  • Do what makes you happy!! If it comes down to walking or just skipping the cardio all together.....go for the walk. And, 1 mile is 1 mile.....doesn't matter how you get there. Wish I had more insight on the weight lifting.....good luck with whichever path you choose!
  • It depends on YOU. If the lack of sleep will cause you to binge, be anxious, or some other negative behavior than the nap is the way to go. If you can push through, then it might help clear your mind and calm your sprit. Any chance of getting to do both.....work it out and then go home and rest??
  • I'm a physics teacher, and I assure you I can do physics!! However, I don't think I'd go and see an obese nutritionist....sounds like an oxymoron.
  • This is why weight watchers didn't work for me!! I'd have a big fruit salad snack, and it wouldn't count for anything "points" wise.....but that was so lame.....my fruit salad included 2 bananas and a peach with some berries. Looking at how many calories now that I'm "smarter" makes me laugh.....seriously....for someone…
