SW: 196# CW: 155# Started on this after high A1C reading (9.3). Just tried to watch sugar and starches. Lost 11 pounds in 9 months and knew it was not enough. I started walking and got a Fitbit. Lost 20 more from increased activity in 3 months. Started with MFP about 5 months ago and lost another 11# since. Most recent A1C…

I have just gone through getting up to and running an official 5K race. I have had many of the same questions and I am not sure that these are the correct answers but they are what has worked for me. Softer surfaces are going to be easier on your legs. That being said, there is a trade off of not having to focus on the…

I started using a band with a built in sleeve around my waist. I like to use Map My Fitness as my app. I got the band/belt at Amazon. It is called a FlipBelt. I have an iPhone 6 Plus and it works fine.

Ya man! Great stuff. Love the simplicity factor.

The thing to remember is this is a done deal. If you burn more calories than you take in, it happens. You lose the weight. You are just deciding at what rate and tracking just tells you the rate. It is so natural for me to take a minute after a meal or snack and pull out my phone and enter it. I have been told that you can…

I just finished week 4 of C25K myself. Signed up for a race for the end of February. This morning's run left me no doubts about finishing in <30 minutes which was my goal when I first started.

I am 50 and lost 40 pounds since January 1, 2014. I only used MFP for the last couple of months so I can't really tell you what I did the first 10 months other than cut out sugar and carbs. I didn't track calories or really exercise during the first 10 months although I wished that I had. It just sort of happened. I know…

Done. This is a current long term goal of mine also. Just started with the interest and research after reading "Wild". Already had "Appalachian Trials" on my Kindle. Reading "Walk in the Woods" now. I am 50 now and trying to figure out when I can do this before I am too old.

Here is what I have found in a few months of doing this. You can track all you want and plan all you want but you have to assign a value to the calories. A personal value. You have to define the value to you. This is where the exercise part comes in for me. I explain it to my friends that the exercise gives value to the…

Do you check your blood sugar levels? Even if it is an A1C test in a checkup lab. I started my fitness and weight loss from being diagnosed with Type II diabetes. I just cut out breads and pasta along with the calorie counting/exercise for a 500/day surplus. My sugar went back to normal. I haven't really done much more…

Turning 50 and really bad numbers on my blood work. A1C (Sugar), cholesterol, triglycerides were way high. In 3 months, I was able to bring them all back to a normal range through diet and exercise by tracking my food intake and steps walked. There was also medication but I was already on the medication for a while and it…

Here is how it works in my head and from my calculations over 8 weeks has been pretty accurate. You also have had to allow for negative calories in your settings. I could be way off but it works for me. MFP calculates based on information you give it. Height, weight, sex, age and activity level (sedentary, active, etc.)…

The iPhone6 has a step counter built into it in the Health app. You can look at this page to set it up to be your activity tracker in MFP. http://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/1525167-how-does-the-step-tracking-feature-work- I still personally use a Fitbit because my company paid for it and we have…

Set up a Fitbit account, even if you do not have one. You can enter your steps manually on the web version of their site. You can then set MFP to use Fitbit as the step counter. To manually enter steps in Fitbit: Go to "Log" Choose "Activities" Click on the 'walk' icon There is a drop down menu for distance. By default it…

Fitbit and MFP work fine together. You can track your food on MFP and it will transfer the calories over to your FitBit dashboard and app. The mealtime calories will be shown on FitBit (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, etc.) but the food breakdown will not. The calories that you burn on FitBit in terms of steps will transfer over…

I am pretty much just a walker. I do a minimum of 3.6 miles every morning before work in my neighborhood. If I get out early enough I will stretch that out to 4.5 or 5.5 depending on the route and my motivation. I do longer on Saturday mornings did a personal best 8.9 miles last Saturday. I have been starting to run parts…
