  • I think it also depends on how much you have to lose... I only have 10 lbs to lose, and with such a small margin I need to weigh my food because it have a really small margin of error. In other words, if I don't eat exactly 1700-1750 calories per day, and I go over by even 50 calories, I won't lose any weight. If you have…
  • As a serial gym-goer (I go hard for 2-3 months and then ghost for 2-3) I always appreciate a friendly smile when I return. No judgement, no need to be best friends, but just the general feeling of being welcome makes it so much easier to jump back in.
  • I can't answer your question with any medical or scientific authority -- but personally, I think it's better to go 3 days a week at 100% for a while and then bump it back up to 4 days a week when you're feeling better. You don't want to get sick because that would derail you completely. Better to listen to your body and…
  • Zombie thread but I need it to come back alive!!! I'm looking for a daily multivitamin. Why are some so cheap (10 bucks for a bottle from Walgreens) and some SOOOO expensive (50 bucks a bottle at GNC.) Does it matter? If you google this information, the articles that come up all seem to be written by the vitamin companies.
  • Update! Just putting this out there for posterity: It's been 3-ish weeks since I first posted this call for help. I've been weighing all of my proteins, carbs, and fats; logging everything; staying active (crossfit 3 days/wk plus 1 day/wk of yoga) and I've lost weight! I'm down to 154 today (avg loss of about .5 lbs/week…
  • My waist to hip ratio is almost 1:2 (my hips are 40", my waist is 24") To the point where I look kind of ridiculous. My mom looks exactly the same... there's nothing I can do about it. I just keep trying to build muscle and focus on my health.
  • What are some of the high fiber foods you've added to your diet?
  • Ok - so at this point I'm just venting. Lol. Sorry... not sorry. For the past two weeks I've been fluctuating like mad on the scale due to TOM and water retention. Today when I woke up, I weighed 155.6 - the exact weight I was 2 weeks ago before all of that craziness started. So, I feel like I'm back to where I left off.…
  • Very well put. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
  • Thanks for all the helpful comments, guys. You've all given me a lot to think about. Jjpptt2 - Honestly I am not complaining. I am just frustrated with myself and I apologize it came off as impatient or ungrateful. There's really no need to hate me because rest assured, I already want to jump off a building head first. So…
  • I hear you. And I understand, on an intellectual level, that this is a science - and accuracy matters. But, I have to admit... I'm a bit skeptical of weighing everything (even though I know people swear by it) because... honestly... did any of us get fat by eating an extra ounce of baby carrots? Or 2 extra grams of…
  • THIS! This makes sooooooo much sense. Thank you so much!
  • Thank you all, so much!!! This is so helpful.
  • Ok, thanks all. Sorry to seem impatient-- I just didn't want the post to get buried. I appreciate all of your insights.
  • Bumping. People are looking at my post but not responding! :-( Please. Anyone? Anything?
  • How's everyone doing? Haven't heard from the OP in a while :-/ I'm down 2 lbs (down 3, and then up 1 because of that a-hole TOM) but I'm not letting myself get de-railed. I am having a hard time with my calorie in take - I'm using the BMR - 15%TDEE calculation recommended by the Pro's on here. But I can't tell if it's too…
  • ^This. OMG This is CRAZY! I actually shuddered when I read this. Your trainer is completely wrong and unqualified. I'm scared for you.
  • It's SO much harder to maintain weight loss than it is to lose the weight in the first place (and that's really hard too!) It's the dirty little secret of weight loss. MOST people gain the weight back. It sucks so bad. Don't beat yourself up. You're not alone. Just start small and don't give up!
  • Urgh - I weighed in today and I'm back up 1 lbs - I know it's because of PMS and water retention but it's so frustrating.
  • 3 lbs is a lot for 1 week... Are you breastfeeding? I would focus on 1 lbs/week. I can't vouch for the medical legitimacy of this statement - but I think that the slower the weight loss happens, the less likely you are to yo-yo and put it back on. JMO!
  • How's everyone doing? (Who else is checking/posting regularly?)
  • Hi All! Just checking it and - I must say - I'm killing it. I'm down 3 lbs, I'm consistently hitting my goal of 10,000 steps/day, resistance training 3x/week, and cooking most of my meals at home. I'm a teacher so I always pack my breakfasts and lunches Monday-Friday, and I meal prep on Sundays so I have 3-4 days worth of…
  • Hey! First, I highly recommend you read this post: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242 Second, none of us got fat eating too many baby carrots. Yes, calories matter. BUT at the end of the day I try to focus more on quality than quantity. I try to stick to around 1600 calories/day but if I end up eating…
  • I went to the gym today for the first time in like a year... so that's something
  • Small changes!!! Don't beat yourself up and just try to do one good thing... log, don't drink pop, whatever it is. Just have one small victory and celebrate. Then, try to add another small victory tomorrow.
  • How's everyone doing so far? I'm down 1 lb but i went out drinking on Sunday. :# SW (4/6): 158 CW (4/13): 157 GW: 140 I really need hobbies that don't involve drinking!
  • Hey! I'm also 5'5" (32 yo) and I think 140 is an ideal weight! Have you thought about focusing more on resistance training/ gaining muscle instead of losing lbs? Just a thought!
  • I'd like to join! Starting weight: 158. Goal weight: down to 145 by July 1... let's go! (I'm 32, 5'5") I'd really like to get back into crossfit and going consistently 3x/week. Let's do this!
  • 32, depression, 5'5", with about 20 lbs to lose. If you figure out how to stay motivated with depression... please let me know! :-)
