I'd recommend you don't try to lose weight just yet. Just log ... meticulously log ... weigh on a food scale EVERY single thing that goes in your mouth. Do that for two weeks ... then assess (I can help) your caloric intake . ... and we can discuss what foods you are willing to cut out. Small changes... baby steps.

What part of Cali and where did you move from ? Maybe try some of the great trails of active things loke that in your new location... more fun than a gym... and depending where you live... it might be a real adventure! You'll meet locals too

I just wanted to say for the record ... ... what I'm doing is in no way more physical than the months of training that body builders go through. There are literally three tryout days ... then a match bracket... it is designed for amateurs... not "aspiring boxers" or anything. All respect to everyone's chosen endeavor.

I think this is true if your metric is a number on a scale. ... but if you're interested in recomp, etc . ... then the tyoe of calorie is hugely important. One person will loose more muscle than another person at the same caloric deficit with differebt macros ... but they will both lose the same amount of weight.

Best advice I can give is ... force yourself to move. Excersize really does fight depression ... I find I cannot get the motivation for treadmill time etc when I'm down ... but if I can just go do 20 minutes of weight lifting ... it'll spark my motivation. Lifting heavy weights has a far more pronounced effect on my mood…
