Well, I'm logging my meals. That's a start, right? Awareness?

Hi! I'm new to this group. I am age 69 and have a goal of being at my best weight, health and strength possible for this time of my life by my 70th birthday. At my recent physical, my PCP says I'm pre-diabetic, and I need to make sure it doesn't devolve into diabetes. That's my main concern. I know how to do this: by…

Mid-afternoon is hard for me. I have a cup of tea or two. If I still want something I'll have celery with peanut butter or cheese with a Wasa rye cracker. After dinner, also hard because my husband is in full snack mode. But he eats salty and after dinner I usually want a little something sweet. Last year, I discovered…

I am also looking to join an OA focused group.

Betsy @teklawa1 I too am so sorry this happened to you with no warning! No chance to say goodbye. Take comfort where you can find it! Luanne

Y'all are doing great! Yesterday I walked 4 miles in the morning and did tons of yardwork in the afternoon. Went over my calorie limit.

@ginnytez and @cattherien I had chronic plantar fasciitis for many years after running a marathon in 1989. A sports orthopedist made special inserts for my shoes. I had physical therapy. I rested. I bought orthopedic shoes. I taped my feet. Everything helped a little bit for awhile, but it kept coming back. Then someone…

Haha! I found weighing in every day and tracking intake to be incredibly helpful. I probably would have continued to lose, but for learning to bake sourdough bread. I love it but cannot have fresh bread in the house all the time, I've discovered. I feel like it could have been a lot worse. Anyhow, now that it's spring,…

Thanks for the info, @LisaInArkansas !

Marching? Is that marching in place?

Hi Luanne! This group is great. This thread is great. Come awhile, come every day, hang around, post, don't post, it's all good here! I'm sure, if you mention your location, you could find someone relatively close by (or not) who'd be willing to be your body-buddy. Sorry, not me. I'm just here for the food tracker and…

Hi All! I have tried different groups but it seems many of the conversations are old and I get no response to my posts. Also, I don't want to join a group that requires extensive logging on a spread sheet. I use the MFP diary to log foods and exercise and try to make friends with other MFP users for support with that. I'm…

I agree. I've gotten that message on the days when I'm too much under my calorie goal. It happens every so often, but it's not a trend so I don't worry about it. Eating too little has NEVER been my problem! LOL!

Hi Kathy! It sounds like you have some good habits. That's a great start! When you say disciplined, what do you mean? What kind of foods do you eat? How much?
-
Hi Linda! I'm 67 and just retired in December. I like being able to choose what I want to do, especially as it comes to up and moving around! What are your weight and fitness goals?
-
You guys with these long maintenance records are so encouraging. And that you're still here on MFP, keeping yourself honest, logging calories, staying in touch with others on parallel paths!
-
These are all great tips! I'm doing an intentional maintenance for the first time in my life. All the other times, I'd hit or get close to goal weight and put the weight back on again. Logging my meals gives me an awareness of everything that goes into my mouth. Overeating has been a coping mechanism for me, so it's easy…

I'm so sorry for your loss, Lesley. To lose a child! I have not seen any of your previous posts regarding this. Grief is a normal process and thank you for sharing it with us.

So I know that I've always gained a few pounds just naturally during the winter. Plus I gravitate to warm foods rather than salads. I'm letting myself be OK with going up and down within a 5 lb window. As long as I'm tracking my food and exercise--staying honest with myself--I should be OK until I decide to start losing…

It just goes to show you that there's no one way that's right for everyone. I too need the accountability of logging my food. I've had a 35 lb weight loss and would like to maintain it for a while to see how it feels to do that. Then I might decide I want to lose more, IF my body agrees. But yeah, I'm in it for the long…

Thanks for this post. Over the years I've lost and gained, lost and gained, so I know that maintenance is something I need to work at, by tracking my food and exercise, weighing every day, eating balanced meals. All the things I do to lose weight. Since March I've lost 35ish pounds and am feeling pretty good right now at…

I guess nobody follows these diets anymore. I always found SBD to be quite healthy, and the Phase 1 is a great way to break my cravings for sweets/breads.

Good morning! I live in Virginia, am 66f, workout 5-6 days per week, eat controlled carbs, and need to lose about 40 lbs.
-
I'm afraid 2020 is the reason for many people's weight gain, even those who haven't struggled before. I know I tend to head to the fridge many times a day when working from home. Be kind to yourself! ~ Luanne

Hi Sherri, You and I seem to be around the same age. I'm 66, but still working a writing job. It looks like you're off to a good start! So when you say "start moving," what's that look like? I too have been frustrated this year with my weight. I weigh more now than at any point in my life! Not good for my health. I look…

My goals for January: 1. Log all my meals. 2. 100ish gms protein, 100 gms carbs (to start, then decreasing), 58 gms fat. 3. Drink 8 glasses water per day 3. Log my exercise 3. 30+ minute walk 6 days per week 4. Bicycle ride when weather permits 5. Light weights workout 3 times per week 6. Yoga 2 times per week 7. Weigh…

I'd like to join this group but I'm not seeing much posted about diet, nutrition, exercise, etc. Is there another board where that happens?
-
That helps a lot. As you say, it makes me feel so good and I know that I need to eat this way for my health -- blood sugar, cholesterol, etc. -- not just for weight loss. Just a matter of patience. Thanks.

Like some of the rest of you, I'm in survival mode for a few more days until the feasting is over, trying to minimize the damage. It may be the end of this week before I can get a handle on my food and start eating true keto again. Thanks to you all for being here, for accepting us all for where we're at and lending a hand…
