  • I am doing a 20 or 30 hour once a week. Either dinner to dinner for the 20, or dinner to breakfast on the day after next for the 30. I have a personal crackpot theory that I'm testing- that the extremely low insulin will even out the fat loss a bit because the naturally resistant areas (waist for me) will not be able to…
  • Note- Most calorie counts on apps (including MFP) overestimate your burn- some by alot. So eating back the calories, especially 8 miles worth can start to become noticeably counterproductive. After some research I found that subtracting 1mph off the MFP rate fixes it more or less.

  • Thanks, I'll check into the Magnesium. Since I'm not really hearing any alarm bells here, I think I'll just reduce a little bit- cut my Saturday run down to a 5K to help with Sunday's half marathons. That's about a 10% reduction in weekly miles too. Also, I'll shift my Tuesday run to Wednesday to make a 2 day rest happen…
  • Thanks for all of the responses.. Here are some answers.. I’ve walked for years, but started integrating short jogs into my 5K walks starting in late January. Jogged a full 5K without walking on February 27th. Jogged first 10K without walking on April 8th. I have been losing weight the whole time- 1.5 pounds per week. Not…
  • Thanks.. Re-reading some of this, and your article, and other things, I think people are thinking I'm trying to literally mix the beans and rice together at each meal. I'm just trying to see, over the course of a day or so what a good ratio would be and why. I thought just using black beans and rice would help keep it…
  • The amino acid profile of the rice is a little less clear. While the advertised protein is 4.4 grams per cup, the limiting amino acid- lysine will only make 3.1 grams. While I'm fairly certain I'm in the wrong crowd to be asking this, I will anyway- does anybody know how they come up with the 4.4 grams?
  • You folks sure have a grating way of saying "No, you didn't miss anything. You are correct."
  • Yes I read it several times and understand most of it- but not all. Thanks!.. Having given it a month and not feeling any different, and no strong evidence that the energy will improve, I think I might switch over to straight logging.
  • Thanks... The weight loss is good too, but I was more curious to see if burning Keytones was better than Glucose. Sounded plausible enough to test. Previously, the things you mentioned- cupcakes and Ice-cream did make it into the house every week or two. So it sounds like 30 days is enough time?
  • OK thanks.. That sounds more like a yes then.. I'll have to look more into it.
  • Thanks.. I was hitting 6 and 7 grams last week so I wanted to tone it down a little but went overboard. I cooked the boston butt to lower the sodium a bit and save some money over the constant cold cut purchases. I think I'll try adding something salty to it. I drink a lot of water, iced tea, and some coffee during the day…
  • Pretty good. I'm adjusting to the new numbers (only tracked calories before). Went through the flu symptoms last week. Not feeling much different. How long for that?
  • Thanks for the replies.. Apparently these posts don't show up in the "My Conversations" tab so I had to go looking..
  • Are you measuring your food?
  • Thanks.. So far I've eaten more than the calories required to stay at my current weight. I've been focusing only on the ketosis. I lightened up my breakfast a bit and got hungry about 10:30 so ate again. I bought test strips yesterday and it looks like I'm at 15 to 40. Is that good? Is anything but zero good? I don't…
  • This is bizarre. I had no idea about the sodium obviously. I added it to the diary and removed the sugar column. I hope that's ok. And I set it a 4,000 mg. Is the sodium intake risky for some people?
  • Thanks! Yeah I noticed the pepperoni salt and figured I won't be buying that again for a while. How did you figure the net carbs? I know it has to do with fiber- but simple subtraction would equal 36.
  • I completed my first day at this and am looking for tips and comments. If you are interested, please take a look at what I ate yesterday! I'm surprised I hit 50 carbs (higher than I thought I would)- mostly surprised that the majority came from the vegetables I chose. In general, do my goals look correct? Did I do ok where…
  • Thanks for all that- I joined the group. The main reasons for asking the second question are these. First- I have a lot of food lying around that I would like to use up over time, and second- if I'm caught eating out, what are my limits. What I'm hearing here is that the metabolic benefit of the ketosis is basically hunger…
  • Thanks.. I've just heard it so many times.. "You can eat as much as you want" over and over. Never bought it but figured I'd ask. I'm trying the low carb for some of the other claims made about it- otherwise, yeah I'd just eat 1,500 calories of whatever I want. As far as the second question- that sounds right to me as…
