  • Bravo! You look like you've had a big change physically and in your confidence. Great job!
  • Glad I'm not alone. One thing I'm trying to think about so I feel better is that I'm sure I'm eating less this week, because I'm tracking, than if I wasn't tracking. Then that kind of makes me feel worse, because knowing I'd do worse than 1800-2000 cal per day when left to my own devices (goal 1450/day) is disheartening.…
  • No...but I like this idea!
  • The former, not the latter. I guess just don't call it a cleanse and we all agree lol.
  • The liver responses make sense, thx.
  • The magic elixir comment made sense to me...thank you! That helped me see the other side. I think lots of people don't get the "I usually eat healthy" message (not from you specifically, but MFP as a whole) - they get the first part about "cleanses" are so terrible, eat whatever you want part...which makes my mind go to…
  • Eh, we can't be at work all the time! I already listen to NPR on my commute lol. And my kids basically only watch PBS sans commercials...I refuse to apologize for watching documentaries lol
  • I'm in a scientific field so I'm no stranger to research...but I just like to get information from various sources and think it over. Take a bit from here and try it...a bit from there...(for myself, not when billing clients lol)...
  • Well I suppose the thing I come back to is I always feel a heck of a lot better when I eat "healthy" foods, so I don't necessarily need a research study to tell me whether enough ppl felt better or had changes in their blood work v the placebo group, or what have you... I just do find it puzzling how fiercely folks defend…
  • What's the agenda? Learning and information? I'm not trying to be snarky...I just like to learn and they provide someone's insight who really cares a whole lot about nutrition and health. I don't see how it's any more harmful to consider their opinions than folks on a message board. I mean, they cared enough to put…
  • I understand that. However, these nutrition folks say that if you are overweight and losing weight, you are putting a lot of strain on your liver and eating these foods with various healthy characteristics can assist in that process. I also disagree with the claim that it costs anything to cleanse. I have to buy groceries…
  • Also when I go out I like to get what I like to get or it feels like a waste of $ and an experience, to me. I will count the calories and count it as two meals if need be...so after the 700+ cal breakfast I might do a small snack if I get hungry midday and my typical size dinner. Still get to eat out, but not blowing the…
  • Maybe you would prefer a weekly calorie goal, rather than daily. I've seen some others post about it...you eat a couple hundred less calories per day Mon-Fri, then you have a lot more leeway on weekends (depending on how much you can decrease during the week and still be healthy & satisfied).
  • Bravo! Powerful transformation inside & out!
  • I'm not sure if this is correct, but once you lost that 16 lbs and log that in your progress, would MFP drop your calories? What's your activity level set to? Maybe try putting it down to a less active level just to see how that impacts your calorie recommendation? Great job BTW. Sounds like you've made some positive…
  • Now that I am also trying to break free of food labels/categories, this strikes me as a very powerful realization. I never consciously thought about putting a nutrient dense food on the back shelf because I don't have to only eat "diet" foods, but then adding them back in because I actually find I miss them! Thanks for…
  • When someone gives you a box of chocolates for Christmas and instead of eating it, you read the nutrition label and multiply calories per serving by # of servings to figure out what the damage would be if you are the whole box. Because...that's me too lol
  • When you're irrationally happy that your favorite Mexican restaurant started posting calories...and the burrito is 200 calories less than the salad...and now the burrito is the better deal...nom nom nom
  • Glad you're on track with your goals and feeling great! Keep that momentum rolling!!! :)
  • I swap out pasta with spaghetti squash. I like it better, digest it better and (bonus) it's much lower in calories. 1/2 the family likes & 1/2 doesn't so I make pasta and squash.
  • If you are more comfortable working out at home at first, there a ton of free workout videos on YouTube. You could sample different things to see what feels best to you, without worrying about who is around and what they're thinking (I like the gym, but those thoughts are still there for me too - although truthfully a lot…
  • I have found spaghetti squash to be a great sub for pasta. You may like that as a low cal carb sub.
  • OP I think this hits the nail on the head - this would be a spiritual and social accomplishment for you in your personal journey. Go for it - you know how to monitor your macros and calories if you got this far. 30 days is totally reasonable. Good luck!
  • I'm not sure if this appeals to you, but I have a very similar problem OP, and I have found a mix of therapy and low dose anti-anxiety meds to be life altering. I agreed to the treatment because of post partum depression and the commitment to overcoming that so I could be the best mom I'm capable of being...and realized I…
  • I don't have a total grip on this either, but I have been working on it. I find on the especially challenging weekends and/or I get to a Friday night and for whatever reason I am just HANGRY, this is particularly helpful: I let myself eat the things I would like to eat, and eat until I am full, but I weigh and measure…
  • Most of us are here, because we've been there. ;) You can do this. Get ready to focus on you and do the work. A year from now, you'll wish you started today. :) You really can do it, and it is worth it!
  • OP, I try to think of it like this...I can eat anything in moderation if it stays in my calorie and macro goals. If a food is a trigger food and I then eat beyond those goals (read binge), then maybe I can't eat THAT food. You can keep to the "you can eat anything within your goals" AND identify specific trigger foods that…
