I used to drink diet soda, though haven't had caffeine for about 18 years (other than whatever is in the occasional chocolate I ingest). Bottom line, if people like it and want to keep drinking it, no amount of research that says it's unhealthy will matter. There are studies that show people who drink diet soda have higher…

Intellectual, but fun.

Sometimes we don't give ourselves credit for even the small steps we take to be healthier. Work on tracking and being accountable at first. We all have good days and bad days, but you can do it if you work on making small changes and working on consistency. Hang in there!

I used to run because I felt like it was the most efficient way to burn calories. I kept waiting for the day when I would fall in love with it and get that "runner's high" that they talk about. Long story short - it never happened and it ended up speeding up the degeneration of osteoarthritis on my knees. I didn't even…

I like my Total Gym for the reasons you mention. It's good for toning and, if you do the exercises in a sprint-type manner, you can work on endurance too. I have really bad knees, so I do chair workouts too. There are a lot of suggested workouts on Youtube that can fit just about any work out need.

Listen to the advice of everyone here who said to go see a doctor. I experienced something similar 5 years ago and tried all kinds of self-fix it solutions. Finally went to see an orthopedist who took x-rays and diagnosed some pretty serious osteoarthritis, especially in my right knee. Long story short, I had to quit any…

I'm 5'2" and my overall goal has been to lose 60 pounds. So far I've lost 20 and have stagnated since January. I've been gaining and losing the same 4-5 pounds since then and can't seem to find my motivation mojo again. Feel free to add me - I need all the help and support I can find! I'm not doing any plan or diet, just…

This was a great thread to read today. I gained weight (I weigh Friday to Friday) after weeks of losing solidly. I was feeling pretty down (I gained about a pound). But I am also retaining water (joint issues and meds) and need to stop focusing on that one number. Very helpful information!

Stay out of the sun, use sunscreen everyday and moisturize every night - all the way down to your cleavage. A lot of women forget to moisturize their neck area.

Bless your heart. I inherited good genes from my mother. (I'm 54.)

You already said it, but I would have guessed MUCH lower.

1 ounce is 28 grams. There are a lot of conversion calculators on the web.

This is very inspirational to see! Congratulations on your hard work.

I'm with astrampe on this.

I don't have a fitbit either - just a pedometer. I just track the old school way - minutes walked and whatever pace I walk (for me, usually pretty slow - 2.0 to 2.5 mph).

In 2007 I lost 35 pounds by doing Slim-Fast for about 9 months. The problem (for me) with shakes is that they don't teach you how to change your eating for overall success and maintenance. It's an easy, quick fix but didn't help me in the long run. (Yes, I gained that weight back.) I don't do packaged shakes anymore - too…

It's all about portion control and measuring those portions as accurately as you can. You can absolutely eat foods you enjoy! I try to eat the foods I enjoy and mix in a fair amount of things that are really good for me but might not be my first choice (some veggies etc.). Life is too short to eat things you don't enjoy!

Consider getting your resting metabolic rate tested. (Mine is 1483, so eating 1500 calories without exercise would not make me lose weight.) Everyone's rate is different. I agree with girlviernes above - I would get checked out by a physician. Rule out thyroid issues, eating issues, etc.
