  • I gained around 15 lbs. I had already started slacking on my calorie tracking when everyone was sent home to work in March. I had grand plans to keep up walking and running but instead mostly sat around feeling sorry for myself. A couple of weeks ago I started tracking calories again and have been running and walking more…
  • I haven't taken a ballet class since I was 13 but a few years ago I bought the New York City Ballet Workout Volume 2 DVD and really liked it. It's formatted similar to an actual class with a warm-up, stretching, barre, and some combination work. It's available on YouTube now (so is Volume 1)…
  • I took a break from Facebook this month and felt so much more productive! It would be nice to ditch it completely but I need it to keep in touch with a volunteer group and I do like searching the events for things to do with my friends and family. I did delete the app from my phone so now it isn't so easy to just tap a…
  • I started running! I started C25K in July and kind of fizzled out by September because I bought a house but after moving I kept running intervals. I never managed to run more than 5 minutes without a walk break but I've never liked running so even doing 5 minutes at a time is a big thing for me. In December I started C25K…
  • I've been cleaning out my closet to prepare for moving next month. I've filled an entire trash bag with things that are too big now that were snug or too small when I bought them. It does make me kind of sad though because I've really loved all of the clothes I've bought since I started losing weight and almost all of it…
  • I attempted W5D3 on Saturday morning. We had overnight storms and it was so humid it felt like I was breathing underwater. I only managed to run for about 15 minutes before I had to take a walk break. Then I got another couple of minutes of running in before the cool down. I'm going to repeat week 5 this week, the weather…
  • I finished week 4 on Friday. Actually talked my son in to going with me. He walked most of the time and just jogged to catch up during my my recovery walks. I told him I'll eventually be faster! Got up yesterday and decided to give W5D1 a shot. I figured if I couldn't do all 3 of the 5 minute runs I'd just go back to week…
  • Did W4D1 yesterday morning. I really, really felt like walking before the last 5 minute run was up but I kept going. I'm thinking I might repeat week 4 again next week instead of moving on to week 5. I've never been athletic and I'm so out of shape I don't want to push myself too hard.
  • We've been under an excessive heat warning so I got up Wednesday and again today at 5:15 am to go run before sunrise to beat the heat. Finished week 3 this morning (and I ran in shorts for the first time since I was a teenager!) and I'm hoping I'll be able to do the 5 minute runs of week 4! The heat wave is supposed to be…
  • If you really like the Zip you can just buy a new cover/clip for it. I bought one for about $2 from eBay when I had a Zip and broke the clip and it worked just fine. There are also more expensive options (but still less than $10) on Amazon. Just pick your merchant of choice and search "Fitbit Zip Clip" :)
  • I finished week 1 of C25K and started week 2 yesterday! I've previously tried C25K and usually only do a day or two before I decide it's too hard and just quit.
  • I finished W2D1 last night. It was rough but I did it without having to walk any of the running parts! It will still be awhile before I'll be able to keep up with my son but I'm getting there!
  • My son is in JROTC and wants me to start running with him so I downloaded an app and I think I'm going to give it a try today.
  • When adding an item you can change the number of servings. In your example of the egg, the serving size will always be "1 egg", you just change the number of servings to whatever amount you eat. No need to make "meals" or "recipes" for eggs and sausage unless you just want to.
  • If you get most of your steps early in the day Fitbit will assume that you are going to continue to be that active and estimate your total calorie burn for the day will be higher, resulting in a higher adjustment. By the next day it will show the adjustment based on your actual burn. Also, I think both MFP and Fitbit ask…
  • It sounds like you aren't doing anything wrong. If you're losing the amount of weight that you should be according to your calorie deficit why do you think something is wrong? ACV is not magic, it doesn't make you lose weight. Eating low carb will likely make you lose water weight at first but again, there is nothing magic…
  • I don't consider myself to be "dieting" no matter what I eat. I have a diet that consists of a variety of foods (including cookies, cake, ice cream, etc.) but I log and count calories so that I can eat at a caloric deficit in order to lose weight.
  • "Verified" entries show a green check mark next to them. There can still be foods with incorrect nutrition facts that have been Verified though. Entries and verification are all done by individual users so there is always a chance that something will be listed incorrectly.
  • I had a chocolate frosted for breakfast. I'm walking in a parade this evening and that will probably end up being over 5 miles so I figure I'll earn those doughnut calories!
  • Even people that have asked me before will still ask how I lost the weight. I don't know if they're expecting me to change my answer? I always tell them the same thing - I ate less and tried to move more. I've even started telling them exactly how I did it, counting calories with MFP and using my Fitbit to motivate myself…
  • I currently exercise after work. Ideally I'd like to exercise before work so I have less of a chance of making an excuse to not go to the gym but I already have to get up at 5 am to make sure my teenager is on the bus by 6 am and then that doesn't leave enough time to go to the gym before work. This summer I'm hoping to…
  • My "less than normal" activity is that I'm a volunteer cancan dancer at a living history museum. Once a month (usually) we do 3 shows of 3 dances each and some singing and a lot of standing around talking to guests. I can't wear my Fitbit (I lost my Zip that I was able to wear under my dress) so I don't really have a good…
  • I really slacked off last year and managed to gain about 15 lbs. I've finally gotten back on track and today I was able to wear one of my favorite skirts that was way too tight a few months ago!
  • I just started dancing again after about a 25 year hiatus so my goals kind of go with that. 1. Splits - I don't care what kind, I want to be able to do one 2. Be able to get through one of my dance routines (about 2-3 minutes) without feeling completely wiped out
  • Also, I just realized you say you are 6'2" but the "ideal weight" but the charts I'm looking at have a healthy weight range of 150-190 for someone that is 6'2" so you only have about 20 lbs to get to the top of the range.
  • My February didn't go as I'd hoped either but I did maintain my weight so that's a win. I had a cold that wouldn't go away and for two weeks I just had no energy to exercise. March will be better!
  • Well, any calculator I've used always asked my height so I'm assuming that information is used in whatever I'm calculating. I'm 5'10" and I've found MFP's calorie calculations to be pretty spot on for me. As far as BMI, because we're tall we often don't look as heavy as we are. For the majority of the population BMI is an…
  • I tried it once, years ago. I only lasted a couple of weeks. The shakes don't really taste that great and I prefer to have actual food instead of just drinking my calories. Honestly, you'd be better off just using MFP to track your calories and eating foods you actually like that fit your calorie goal. And, unless you have…
  • I'm in a can can dancing group. We had our first practice in over a month yesterday. I rode my bike there, managed to make it through all of practice without feeling like I was going to die, and then biked home :)
  • I'm not sure how many are still out there but the first Fitbit I had was a Zip that only cost about $40 from eBay. It really was just a step tracker, no HR monitor, no sleep tracking, etc. It worked just fine for what I wanted when I just started out losing weight. I recently upgraded to a used Blaze and only paid around…
