  • Did anyone who watched Trump’s address tonite from the Oval Office on coronavirus think he seemed a little wheezy? He was with people a day or two ago that have tested positive for the virus.
  • Early on, the US turned down the World Health Organization’s offer of test kits that 60 other countries are using, in favor of making our own. I blame our govt at the highest level dor mismanaging our nation’s early response to the virus.
  • My last 5 lbs took FOREVER to come off. Partly because I was tired of being so strict with hitting my calories and logging that I began slacking off. Once I buckled down again, the weight came off like before (which was still slowly...half a pound a week).
  • I’m more concerned about a severe global recession than the actual virus. Although my anxiety over the virus is about. 4 on a 1-10 scale. I live in a rural part of CA that hasn’t seen any cases yet, but we get a lot of visitors from the Bay Area, so only a matter of time. I am somewhat anxious about an upcoming trip to…
  • I don’t understand why you should use raw weight for chicken if what “cooks out” is mostly water. Wouldn’t you want to use the weight without the extra water? And weigh only what is actually going into your mouth? Inother words, weighing it after cooking. Adding any oil or other ingredients used separately, of course.
  • You’re not getting any fiber. If you eat this way long-term, it will set you up for some potentially serious health issues.
  • I am not vegetarian but for health reasons am incorporating more plant-based dinners into my diet. I just discovered baked tofu. Yum.
  • I don’t like Thin Mints (Girl Scout cookies). Somewhere along the way they changed the recipe or something and now they’re not worth wasting calories on. Samoas on the other hand...
  • Very good segment on 60 Minutes tonite on the coronavirus, with interviews with top US public health officials. Worth watching.
  • My new petty reason is to "prove" to the world that being 60 doesn't automatically mean you look like a potato. Being slim and looking good helps me feel younger. And I want to stay in shape so I can still hike when I'm 85.
  • I've always had small breasts. The only upside of gaining weight is that when I was heavy I actually had cleavage. That was fun. It's gone now that I've lost the extra poundage. I'm back to being small, but not "deflated" or "un-perky." I attribute the small amount of sag to gravity and aging.
  • You can eat completely healthy foods (lean meats, whole grains, healthy fats, nuts, fruits and veggies) and totally gain weight if you EAT TOO MUCH of them. This is EXACTLY my problem, and why I have to log and track calories.
  • I never exercise when I’m sick. I figure my body needs all the energy it can get. I’m afraid if I divert my body’s energy by exercising, it will take me that much longer to get better. Plus I will probably have a miserable, crappy workout anyway. If I’m “lie on the couch and sleep all day” sick, I also eat whatever the…
  • We legit need toilet paper too, and were at Costco getting gas so went in to see if they had any. Nope. Also, today I went with my husband to the doc, and the first question they asked is whether he’s been out of the country in the last 14 days or had interacted with anyone else who had. And I was tempted to swipe one of…
  • You can make your own hand sanitizer. 2 parts rubbing alcohol (Everclear also works) to 1 part aloe vera gel.
  • I had two dental implants put in today and have been told not to exercise for a WEEK! Most websites said 3-4 days, so that’s what i was expecting. I will follow my doc’s instructions, the implants were way too expensive to screw around, but arghhh.
  • High cholesterol can be caused by too much saturated fat in the diet, as well as other health issues and sometimes genetics, I am 5’4” and about 124 and my cholesterol when tested lat fall was also about 200. Talk to your doc about what to do. I’ve drastically lowered my saturated fat intake, but not cuz my doc said to do…
  • You can use a squirt-type water bottle to mimic a bidet to take care of cleansing after #1, and save your TP for #2. I sometimes do this when backpacking. It’s refreshing. You can also use all sorts of baby and personal wipes instead of TP (just don’t flush them). But honestly, do we really think the nation is going to run…
  • .[/quote] Between us my husband and I have four great-grandmothers who died in 1919. Want to guess why? Oh yeah, flu. The Spanish flu epidemic. Americans I think have gotten used to the idea that really bad stuff doesn’t happen here, but it has in the past and it can again. Currently the experts are suggesting about 60 -…
  • Anyone got the flowchart handy?
  • I eat 200+ grams of carbs every day plus plenty of salt and other seasonings, and I have a pretty flat stomach, so yea, it’s entirely possible. CARBS ARE NOT THE DEVIL!
  • I don’t understand why people are stockpiling water. It’s not like the municipal water supply is suddenly going ro get turned off or infected with virus. I’m in CA and always have extra shelf-stable food on hand because of earthquake preparedness. Not to mention wildfire threats and PG&E power shutdowns. We picked up a few…
  • Hi everyone, I will be 60 in three weeks. I’m at the high end of my maintenance range and am trying to drop 3 pounds to get back down where I’m more comfortable. I went on a 12-mile (mostly flat) hike on Sat., and normally I would think I could eat WHATEVER I wanted all day long because of the calorie burn. Without…
  • I eat 200 to 250 grams of carbs daily, including cerealor oatmeal for breakfast every day, usually a sandwich for lunch, and 1/2 cup of rice or pasta, or a starchy vegetable like squash for dinner. Plus a huge salad with dinner and usually at least one piece of fruit for a snack. I am a frustrated, irritable person when I…
  • I'm in maintenance and no it doesn't end. I stopped tracking and gained 5 lbs within just a few months, so I'm logging, weighing and eating at a deficit again to lose them. I would dearly love to eat anything I wanted whenever I wanted and not have to think about it; which is what I was able to do (and maintain a slim…
  • I don't eat a food just because it is available or no cost. For example, the dance club my husband and I belong to has treat nights periodically, where everyone brings cookies, cupcakes or something. Last time was Valentine's. I ignored the table completely; didn't even look at what was on there. Same with all those…
  • Okay, I am back to eating at a deficit, for a week now. Can’t tell if I’ve lost any actual weight yet (scale fluctuations/water, etc.) but I’m not worried, now that I’m back to a consistent deficit, I know it will come off. I just want to say how thankful I am for these forums and everyone who supports everyone else as we…
  • This is my experience. When losing weight I have to eat 1350-1400 calories. There is virtually no room for any empty calories, especially alcohol, unless I am taking a break to eat at maintenance. Even with exercise I have to maximize the value of every morsel so I’m not always hungry.
  • I would love to lose almost a whole pound a week. My loss was slower, at about .5 pounds a week. Sometimes a bit more. It took me 8 months to lose 20 pounds. I’m 59 and was eating 1350 cals with weight training, spin or hiking 5-7 days a week (with a few binges/high calorie days and days off for spe ial occasions thrown…
