  • I'm 68, 5ft and lost 52lbs, taking me to my goal weight of 110lbs which I am now happily maintaining - of course you can get down to 125lbs aged 'only' 50 lol, ....go for it if its what you want [you can always put back a few pounds if 125lbs makes you look gaunt] and take no notice of your daughter because she views you…
  • I think that the bad rap white potatoes have goes right back to the 1970s when any diet to reduce weight stipulated NO potatoes, along with every other starchy veg eg parsnips. The 'spuds are bad' thing has just stuck. I love them....boiled, mashed, baked, roasted and could not have lost the 51lbs I did without them…
  • Oh I love Tunnocks teacakes. I've had 1packet whilst losing my weight but I'll defo put them on this week's shopping list....I can feel my tongue curling round the meringue...oooooh >:)
  • OP I hear you. When family members do not need to lose weight and are able to eat more of the food you love than you it is one thing - you just have to accept it. When family members are overweight/obese, eating as they want but getting at you for wanting to lose weight and get healthier it is another - that's sabotage! By…
  • Once a week works for me.
  • I have never cut anything out of my diet just cut down on the amounts of some of them. With calorie dense foods like cakes, biscuits and ice cream I just have a bite of my OHs cake or a spoonful of ice cream and stop at 1 biscuit. I'm in maintenance now and still eating the way I did when losing but with a few more daily…
  • Yay, well done!!!
  • Hi I'm 68 and have lost the 51lbs I needed to get to a healthy weight of 112lbs [slap bang in the middle of a healthy BMI for a 5ft tiddler]. I am now maintaining and after 5 months, so far, so good. I am going to be very vigilant for the rest of my life though. Although I can eyeball things when eating out I still weigh…
  • Hi Talon. After reading your post the thing that struck me was that you have so much going for you because of your level headed and mature outlook. The fact that you enjoy healthy food and are a good cook will mean you will not feel deprived or bored on your weight loss journey. Firstly I would advise having a check up…
  • Funnily enough I've just had 40g oatmeal, 200ml skimmed milk, 33g blueberries and 1tsp honey = 259 calorie breakfast and yummy! Good luck with your plan...I'm 68 and lost 51lbs and now maintained that loss for 5 months so far......us oldies can do it!!! Edit: Just noticed I posted on page 1 duh!
  • I'm 5ft and 112lbs maintaining on 1340 calories but some days I eat up to 1600. I weighed in yesterday and am still bang on my goal weight after 5 months.
  • This is the only time I've ever maintained my weight loss. Every other time I've lost it and re-gained it because my portion sizes just crept up. Now I weigh and log every day and it works for me.
  • Well I'm 5ft and 68 years old and am maintaining happily on 1340 - 1500 a day so I think at 39 years old you should be able to at least eat the same even though you're an inch shorter than me. Don't starve yourself!
  • Keep at it OP because you're being too hard on yourself and you're doing well! Look back to say 6 weeks ago and what you were eating and exercising then and now look at what you are doing.....eating to a budget [which you can go right up to] and doing some exercise....brilliant! You didn't get to your start weight…
  • I did Weightwatchers UK online and then gradually gained back all the weight I lost. I have now re-lost the weight for free with MFP and am maintaining that loss well. MFP has taught me how to manage calories. I eat fairly healthily but don't get guilt trips when I decide [or circumstances dictate] that a day's food is not…
  • I'm 68 and 5ft and my MFP losing calories were 1200 and my maintenance 1340 but I often go over that and so far have totally maintained my 51lb loss, even though it's only been 4 months. For the first month I stuck rigidly to the 1340 but found I was still losing a teeny bit so that's why I don't fret if I go over by a…
  • I've only been maintaining for 4 months [lost 51lbs]. I just keep doing what I did when losing i.e. weighing and logging but with another 200 calories a day. I've had the odd days when I've gone quite a bit over but make sure I revert to plan the very next day. So far so good and my weekly weigh in shows I'm maintaining my…
  • 63 is still young lol...well done on your new found fitness!!
  • I've been in a really heavy stressful situation all the time I was losing my 50lbs and it's still going on now I'm maintaining. Overeating is not the answer to stress....but then you know that. Get back on it now!
  • I don't think of food as simply fuel for my body....I eat the things I really like and MOSTLY bear in mind what is best for me nutritionally. I've only been maintaining for a couple of months but so far, so good. Oh confession...I like wine too much for comfort lol.
  • I'm 5' 0" and 110 but aged 68 so my maintenance cals are only 1340. I have exceeded these now and again but my weight has stayed constant. I would agree with @middlehaitch , keep pushing the boundaries until you find your level....after all why eat less than you need to.
  • Pancake day only for me as well and then they are wafer thin with lemon and sugar.
  • I love a special afternoon tea and the good news is that the delicious sandwiches are really weeny. You could go the extra mile and have a glass of champagne to toast your Mum's birthday. I would think 800/900 cals would be about right for a couple of sandwiches + 2 mini pastries + 1 scone with jam & cream + 1 glass of…
  • I think because CICO is such a simple concept some people feel the need to make it more complicated by doing things like detoxes in the misguided hope that it will do something 'miraculous'.
  • Being able to lift up and empty 15 huge bags of garden waste [which I had filled by gardening] into the recycling skip at the local amenity tip. People offered to help because I'm nearly 70 and it was good to be able to say - thanks very much but I'm fine. I could never have done that last year when shortie me was 40lbs…
  • I'm 67 [5ft] and have lost 40lbs in 35 weeks on 1200 cals a day, walking, static bike and gardening. Don't use your age as an excuse. if you are committed and consistent you [OP} will lose weight.
  • I forgot to say that I make a stock from the bones for the braising cuts.

  • I love venison and eat it regularly. It is low In fat [compared to beef] and has lots of protein. My son, who is a professional Chef has just given me a whole, butchered deer for the freezer. I have steaks, striploins, fillets and braising cuts. I flash fry the fillets in stir fries I pan fry the steaks and striploins and…

  • I could easily go over my calorie goal (1200) if I didn't count my veggies. For example green legumes have quite a lot of calories. I suppose if OP is on a much more generous calorie allowance it is not so critical to count the veg but I have to.
  • Lose 75lbs overnight - no problem just dream ;)
