  • I started keto about 11 days ago and am naturally doing the intermittent fasting which is basically what you describe. After I got the glucose out of my system I am not hungry after my last meal for 12-18 hours. So I will eat dinner at say 6pm and then not eat again until noon the next day. It's not because I am starving…
  • I started 8 days ago and have lost over 8 pounds. Most of that is water weight of course. I have joined some awesome facebook groups that are based on the science of Keto and have learned a ton. I setup MFP to track my macros in grams and I have been good about hitting them. I have already started to naturally fast…

  • First I got the Fitbit Flex from WaterFi. I loved it but I was mostly doing swimming and wasn't really tracking heart rate. Now that I'm doing elliptical and treadmill I've upgraded to the Fitbit Charge HR also from WaterFi. This way I put it on and don't have to take it off for anything, shower, swimming, etc. And to me…
  • So I swam for about 30 minutes just backstroke, freestyle and some modified breaststroke then I sat in the hot tub for about 15 minutes. When I got home I took 2 motrin and I'm feeling much better. I still hurts like hell but it's a more bearable pain. Tonight I'll be standing for quite some time as I'm doing little league…
  • We all start over every once in a while. I just did it...I lost 10 pounds and one size and then the holidays hit. I just joined a gym last Thursday to try and not do it totally alone. Sometimes we have to start again until we find the right routine/schedule/support. It's OK as long as we KEEP starting over again. :)
  • I thought the other way around to losen the muscles first but no? OK I'll swim first and then I'll hot tub second. Thanks everyone! :)
  • @tufel my concern is if I wait I'll lose motivation to even BE at the gym.
  • @Azdak I hope I am not really "injured" either. I think my quads are "swollen" from being beat up so badly. I'm going to see how today goes at the pool and hot tub and then make a decision for tomorrow's class. If it's a lot of squats or quad work then I'm not going to be able to do that. I think you're right that it's…
  • It's funny I used to think my legs were my strongest muscles but clearly not because everything else is "normal" workout sore...
  • Thank you @SonyaCele I'll do a hot tub and swimming routine in a few hours.
  • Clearly this "personal trainer" didn't know what she was doing. This is more than just DOMS as it was not delayed. When I left the class my quads were spasming and I could barely walk. I have a desk job and sit for 8 hours a day, she knew that from our interview and recommended this class as a great way to get back into…
  • Being in the office is the worst for me, because I work from home most of the time. Whenever someone brings in donuts or something I have them put as far away from me as possible and then I go for a walk around the building. If that doesn't work I hop online here to MFP and look for motivation. Where I get into trouble is…
  • That's an aggressive goal, good luck to you! :)
  • My fiance comments on me getting smaller, he eats tons of sweets but now eats them in the car on the way to or from work and hides the candy wrappers so I don't get jealous, he asks me if I've gotten my steps in for the day and if not will offer to go on a walk around the block...He is a large diesel engine mechanic and…
  • Don't let yourself get discouraged. Seriously. I went on a business trip and stayed with my Mom (a feeder) and then went to Reno for a friends wedding for 4 days. I set myself back by 2 weeks during those 2 weeks of eating incorrectly. I'm just now at less than 1/2 pound from seeing a loss again. I've been at this a few…
  • I was just providing a link to a study on the differences and they agree that it really is all about the calories. :) I just thought it was interesting that they did studies, they even put obese people in a locked room and varied only the macros in the calories of their meals and they lost the same amount of weight. It…
  • I thought this might be an interesting article for people to read, that has sources at the bottom regarding calories and the source of them. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/body/is-a-calorie-a-calorie.html
  • My apple watch shows active calories and resting calories, it splits them out. If I do a workout through the watch (start the watch workout and then end it when I'm done) then it adds the amount of exercise calories to MFP which is JUST the exercise calories. With MFP synced to the Apple Healthkit and my watch it…
  • You're totally not the only one ... I just finished the mine and it was almost impossible to stay on track. I didn't want to exercise cause of the cramps and I certainly didn't want to eat well, I wanted comfort food while I was hurting. So it's not just you. Remember, it's the overall achievement. I'm just starting to…
  • I only get that way when I'm not eating enough ... how many calories do you eat in a day?
  • There are protein meal replacement shakes....I use them because I find they fill me up for way less calories than if I were to make food for myself because I make bad choices. So, by using the shakes I make good choices and stay within my calorie goals.

  • OMG THAT IS AWESOME. I laughed so hard at that....

  • Yes - but it's HARDER to lose the weight without exercising. If she CAN she SHOULD because it will help. That's my point. I didn't say you can't lose weight ... I said your BMR drops by 20% when you go on calorie deficit and that exercise prevents that drop in BMR.
  • Exercise does matter for weight loss, here is why. Muscle burns more calories than fat. When you don't exercise and you cut calories your body does slow down your BMR by about 20% which means that you would need to eat even less calories to sustain a loss. (You will start to lose and then slow down) Exercising keeps your…
  • I'm 5'3" and 220 so I'm right there with ya. I sent you a friend request. I find that daily motivational posts on my "wall" help me greatly (both from other people and from me). :) Good luck in your journey.
  • I too took the strategy of making dinners as normal as possible for the family. This way they aren't impacted by my weight loss challenge. :) It helps make the transition easier for everyone when their lives aren't disrupted by the changes we're trying to make. Remember, we're doing this for us so it's only fair that we…
  • I work from home every day, have 3 teenage kids and a husband....I try to set the routine so that I get up and get right in the shower like I have somewhere to go. Then I will sit and work at my computer. For "breakfast" I have one of my meal replacement shakes. (I found if I tried to make breakfast I ate too much) Some…
  • It gets better....when I started I could only get through one of the biggest loser power walks (1 mile of walking in place in your home) and yesterday I did 3.5 of them :)
  • I know that feeling ... my family can eat anything they want too and they are all skinny. :) It's hard to watch when he can sit down with a bowl of ice cream and a bag of chips and if I even look at that stuff I gain weight lol. Biggest piece of advice? It's easier to eat what you would normally make for the family for…
