  • I get really hot when my sugar gets too low, or too high. Not sure about the cold though. It's definitely something to discuss with your doctor. I suggest that you write down any questions, concerns and symptoms before you see your doctor, and bring the list with you. I do that, and I find I manage to get all my questions…
  • Daily Nutrition Goals Edit Calories 1200 Carbohydrates 135 g 45 % Fat 40 g 30 % Protein 75 g 25 % Custom Daily Goals No Calories by Meal Edit These are my goals. You should have a discussion with your endocrinologist and a nutritionist. I was first told to go with 45g carbs per meal and 15 per snacks. 2 snacks per day.…
  • Thanks. I guess I'm not the only one who has a 'duh' moment. I have the same things, long acting is gray(Toujeo) and rapid is blue(Apidra). I usually move them around when I use the last mealtime dose, but I guess I forgot. But, all's well that ends wll.
  • When my clothes are too big for awhile, I bring them to the Sally Anne. At least someone else can use them. You can't change your friends, and you shouldn't try. How did other people change you? You had to change yourself. If you lose these 'friends' they never truly were friends. One thing I've noticed, but it's because I…
  • If my husband(now ex-husband) didn't keep calling me fat, I wouldn't go off on overeating tangents. If he didn't stay out for three days at a time, I wouldn't be so angry and comfort myself with food. As hard as I try, I am a junk food junky. I divorced his sorry *kitten*, started taking better care of me and my kids. I…
  • I do go birdwatching and I am part of a walking group 4 days a week. I don't have SAD. I love to read and watching old movies. I have to watch how much fat I eat in a day also, no more than 30g per day because of Chronic pancreatitis. I have lost a lot of weight because of pancreatitis. I'm usually very, very careful of…
  • Mayo clinic, Harvard medical, ADA, CDA all have literature of this diet and the risks. One of the risks diabetics face is ketoacidosis medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/ketoacidosis The keto diet puts a strain on the kidneys because they are working overtime to eliminate the ketones in your body and blood. And,…
  • I looked forward to menopause from the day I had my first period. I started menopause at the ripe old age of 40 and I was never so happy in my life, except maybe when I had my kids. I had HRT for the first 5 years, because I do have mental health issues. Once I stopped the HRT(doctor's recommendation), I was great. No hot…
  • I have heard the same thing, but I was never told about 'brittle diabetics' only the Type 3C Originally, I was seen by an endocrinologist. He was the one (years ago now) that my diabetes is considered Type3C because it was caused by trauma to my pancreas. He said they should have been treating me as a Type 1 right from the…
  • I had heard someone talking about this on a TV show. His nonsense, says, fast from 10:00 pm to say 6:00 am. Well, most people are sleeping during those hours. Then, fast after breakfast until lunch and between lunch and dinner. Well duh. Like NIghthawk584 says, just eat healthy food, and watch your portions and calories.…
  • Thought I'd add my two cents. All the fast food places are pushing these 'beyond meat' burgers and such. Looking at the ingredients, there is some thing called soy isolates. Not a good thing. There are more additives and fat in one of these burgers than a regular burger. Also, while checking out this very subject, the…
  • Other than his swearing, I kinda have to agree with him. I remember when I was overweight, I would complain about not having any nice clothes to wear, like my think sister. So one day, she was fed up with my complaining and straight out told me to do something about it. What I eat is up to me, not anyone else. If I get so…
  • Thanks Maureen. I don't have kitty litter, and my pharmacist said not to put the pens in my sharps container. When it comes to other meds, like pills, I can take them to my pharmacist to be disposed of safely. Maybe a different pharmacist will have a better solution.
  • Hi and welcome. There are some great recipes on other Diabetes websites. I guess it depends on the amount of carbs you were told to have each day. The American and Canadian diabetes websites have great tips and recipes. When it comes to snacks, always try to balance your carbs with protein. Well, honestly, I guess it's the…
  • Because of my pancreatitis issues, I can't have a high fat diet. Also, as a diabetic, LCHF is tough on our already at risk kidneys. I like the way I eat now, I've lost weight, and my A1C this checkup is 5.6%. But, it really is whatever works for each of us right? No two diabetics are the same.
  • How do you survive on only 50 carbs a day? That's not even the allowance for one meal from my dietician. 45 per meal, 15 per snack.
  • When I go for blood tests, my doctor checks everything. I also have chronic pancreatitis which can sometimes make it hard to eat. It took me from July 2015 to get from 12.7% to 5.6%. Because of the flare ups of pancreatitis, my sugars would go off the charts, then settle down again. As far as I know my kidneys are fine,…
  • These are percentages, not totals?
  • Due to pancreatitis I have to have a low fat diet. My dietician and pancreas doctor have calculated the following, based on my activity level and the goal not to lose anymore weight. Calories 1360, Carbs 45% - 153, Protein 40% - 136, Fat 15% - 23. So far, it's working. I stay within 2 lbs up or down a week.
  • The more education you get, the better you will be. When I was first diagnosed, my endocrinologist sent me to the diabetes education classes, as well as the dietician attached to his clinic(in hospital). For my weight and situation I was told to have 45g carbs per meal, 15g per snack. It has worked very well for me. I also…
  • I couldn't agree more!!! I like to go for a walk in the forest for 30 minutes to an hour. I joined a Run Club (I don't actually run, I lead a walking group). I do my best to get 30 minutes of walking or shopping a day. "They" suggest some kind of resistance training to keep your muscles strong, and always a bit of…
  • How often does this happen? Have you been logging what you eat along with your sugar readings two hours after? By adding protein to a meal (if you're not already doing that) it helps the carbs you consume enter your bloodstream more slowly, and last longer.
  • That's part of the problem. Because only 10% of my pancreas is functioning(long story), I have to take digestive enzymes and insulin. I have flare ups of my chronic pancreatitis that can be terribly painful. Since April 23, I have been having flare up off and on 'til now. I see my specialist today, hopefully there is a…
  • Thanks so much. There is so much information and false claims out there, it's hard to sort through things sometimes.
  • I was told by my dietician 45g per meal and 15 per snack. But, as mentioned, everyone is different. Ask your doctor why you're diabetic, then try and get an appointment with a dietician.
  • 105 is a great blood sugar reading. You don't want to get too low.
  • Hi MarkR. Illness can cause your blood sugars to rise significantly. That's pretty high, so try to rest, drink plenty of fluids(sugar free) and get better soon. It may not be a faulty glucometer, but rather a bad strip, so control solution will eliminate that problem. Good luck with this new journey.
  • I just got a new meter, One Touch Verio Reflect. Free from the company if you go to their website. Their app syncs with your phone. My phone is an android. It works really well. A little slow sometimes. It shows your patterns. You can put your carb, insulin, and exercise data as well.
