  • Another culprit could be hip flexors. I can irritate mine pretty easily—right now I have a dull ache in outer area of lower abs that occasionally gets more irritated. Most likely some hip flexor or other smaller muscle that runs through hips/pelvis.
  • Went for annual check up today. Nurse taking my blood: are you a trainer or something? (Later): uuuh, does your BP usually run, um, really low? Like 90/80? Dr: Everything looks good, EKG is a little slow but that’s you being an athlete. Felt a little ridiculous asking what this huge visible lump in my armpit was…it was a…
  • My 12 yo looked over at me, sitting with my chin in hand while he did his math, and said, “Wow Mom, you are so muscular! You muscles are just…out there!” He sure knows how to compliment his mom!
  • Ran my fastest time in many years—16:38 for two miles, and mile 2 was 7:59 min mile. Haven’t run a sub 8 min mile in a very long time!!
  • Brought my TRX and bands to the playground and coerced my friend into working out with me while the kids played. Always felt too weird and self conscious to do that before….and we were in the park with a whole summer camp of what looked like middle schoolers. A mom came up to us on her way out and said how we were inspire…
  • Leg pressing with a machine I’ve never seen the likes of before. Was really thinking I’d lost strength bc a 95lb warm up felt rather more challenging than I’d expected. Well. It was 95 kg. So not a reading NSV, but I suppose it get easier than I’d expect 210 to feel like.
  • Ran 5 miles this morning, stopped to walk, then realized after a few minutes I was still a mile from home and I was running late. So I started running again. Haven’t run 6 miles in at least 6 years, probably longer. This afternoon I was thinking I was getting some definition back in my arms after a mid-Covid demotivated…
  • Week 2 of vacation—9 runs, walks, & hikes in 7 days, 3 strength training sessions, and two climbing sessions. The hikes and climbing were with my family, which I absolutely love—I never would have gotten to see these waterfalls and swimming holes as a child, bc my parents wouldn’t have been able to hike that far/that…
  • Week one of vacation—nutrition hasn’t been perfect, but I’ve walked/ran every day and lifted 3 out of 6 days (including my 10 hr solo drive day). Bring on week 2–plans to visit a few climbing gyms, another ninja gym, and do some hiking.
  • Went to a Ninja gym with my sons this weekend and felt capable and strong on a few of the obstacles that looked rather intimidating at first.
  • Two weeks ago I finished my first 5.10, but hadn’t been able to do it again. This morning I got a 5.10-, that same 5.10, and a 5.10+! The 5.10+ didn’t feel hard at all. And bonus, met another partner-less climber at my gym so I’ll actually get to top rope more often, try new routes, and start pushing myself a little more.
  • Ugh, yes. One family member is certain that honey in daily coffee is better for him than sugar. Maybe if the taste caused you to use less, but I have my doubts since I buy the Costco size honey for him every time we visit…there is a lot of honey being consumed there 😬
  • I had a torn labrum a couple of years ago. After months of PT without complete relief, I had an ultrasound guided cortisone injection and that helped tremendously. I continued to play it safe with some of my activities for a while afterwards, but I’ve started back to running and heavy lifting and it has not caused…
  • Ran twice this week...I so rarely run, it’s an event. But 3 mile on Monday, then a combined 3.75 from two walks/runs today, and felt pretty respectable with my average 8:38 pace. Even made it to leg day both days.
  • I only started lifting seriously after my 4th baby, but did run before then. My experience was pretty consistent—I could run comfortably until 22-25 weeks, and then the pressure from baby/belly and hormones starting to go to work on hips started to take a toll and it got very uncomfortable. Around then I would switch to…
  • YES. The ovulation bloat is awful. It *may* retreat just in time for the PMS bloat to begin. If I eat any extra salty stuff in between, it probably won’t. A younger friend said her weight stays in a 3lb window and I almost choked laughing. My weight can fluctuate 3-5 lbs in a day. Thanks, perimenopause. Another vote for…
  • There’s definitely something to this—summer came crashing in on us this weekend, with all its sunny mid to high 90s temps, 90-99% humidity, and lack of any breath of a breeze glory. Just in time for a 5 hour soccer tournament. My kids and I are out every day for hours (I walk mornings/evenings, they are being kids…
  • I laughed at my friend getting a skirt from Costco, but then realized it was pretty comfy looking, so picked up a few and some comfy shorts in the smallest available size. Aaaand they’re both slipping off my hips. Last week I started climbing again 3x a week in the mornings. The first day I climbed probably 15 min (of…
  • Finishing up week 3 of 3x/week lifting with one of my BFFs today! She’s been talking about wanting to lift with me for years, finally got started last month. Bonus NSV is deciding not to sit around and gossip w crazy soccer parents during son’s training session (this team’s parents are total crazy town, it’s ridiculous)…
  • I got my second Pfizer at the regular interval and had fewer side effects than the first time. First time—painful swollen lymph nodes in back of neck/front of ear that lasted four-five days, day of intense fatigue. Second: minor twinges from lymph nodes that only lasted the day, no fatigue.
  • Had a brainwave and realized that now that I’m fully vaccinated and masks are optional at climbing gym, I can get up early and go get some cardio and some climbing in before breakfast 3x a week. Went for the first time yesterday and it was great! Almost empty, no waiting for routes or equipment. Even did a 5.10- with no…
  • Same here. Trader Joe’s and Target say masks not required for fully vaccinated customers. Yet unmasked adults with unmasked children under teenage years...You may be fully vaccinated but your 4& 9 yo are definitely not bc that’s not possible at this point. So they *should* still be wearing masks. Saw a ton of that at…
  • I have heard (on here? From a friend? This was months ago) about someone whose Fitbit said they had poor sleep (constantly waking or in light sleep, no prolonged deep sleep). They got a sleep study done that found no problems, but didn’t believe it bc...FitBit said differently. Neither Garmin nor FitBit nor Halo had…
  • I did. Haven’t looked back. Well, I did briefly and same issues made me put it in the drawer. My issues with all the ones I’ve tried: —calorie counts way off. I ate what MFP synced w what tracker said and I maintained or gained slowly. Went back to manual input and I started losing again. (This partly bc my main activity…
  • Had most of the weekend to myself...Friday evening kayak and short bike ride, Saturday morning walk, then 19 mile bike ride, long Sunday morning walk. Decided against wine both evenings while reading out on the porch, and chose sparkling water and a smoothie. Definitely made some good choices even when I was all alone with…
  • We’re mask optional (unless business posts a sign requiring them, in hospitals, etc). I don’t mind wearing in a store, but I am thrilled not to have to wear one when climbing. My first time back to climbing gym in over a year I had to wear one and I definitely felt like I couldn’t catch my breath once mask got sweaty and I…
  • Pandemic home workouts and lack of motivation mean I haven’t squatted my body weight in...over a year? Today did 130x10 as my last set and it felt great! Now to get some safety bars for the squat rack so I can keep going!
  • Got my first Pfizer shot a week ago. My county opened it up to all adults last week—there were still plenty of spots left after being in phase 2 something, so happy they did that. Went through the county system—drive through appt, in and out (including 15 min wait period) in 35 minutes. Sore arm for a day, but I did have…
  • Stressful days have me longing for a hard bike ride and not a glass of wine.
  • Gym cardio is boring (elliptical, bike, treadmill). Lifting = not boring. BUT now that I haven’t been in a gym in over a year, I am actually enjoying the spin bike & Peleton app I bought. Spin type classes were the epitome of “nope, never, no way” for me before, and I still don’t think I’d like an actual class, but I am…
