I have logged it, but only in the spring during the most intense work of soil prep, etc. And I rejected the absurdly high burn suggested by MFP; I estimated it simply based on how it felt compared with my daily hour on the treadmill.

225 lbs is the max to fit in a typical glider. Lord willing, I'll start soaring again when I hit goal weight. 123 lbs down, 42 to go.

Ooops I wrote 1,700 cal/wk gross when I obviously meant per day. I agree with everyone who says 1,000 isn't enough. It will doom you to failure.

I've lost 117 lbs and it's still not uncommon for me to show a loss of 7 lbs/wk, though it typically averages out around 4 lbs/wk. 1,700 cal/wk gross.

Okay . . . any pilots of any kind here? Weight-and-balance calculations can be another kind of NSV.

Do it for your mom.

I asked my dermatologist, who is so good I drive three hours to see him, and he said it doesn't matter how fast or slow you lose weight -- your loose skin will be the same. I'm losing 165 so it's gonna be bad. Just broke 100 down, though!

I can easily flush 3-4 lbs down the toilet. That's why I don't weigh myself daily. I'm down 99 lbs so far, but just for fun (!) I weighed myself 36 hours after my weekly weigh-in and I was up 4 lbs! No worries, I'll "lose" those 4 lbs and another 4-5 by the next weigh-in.

My eyes! aaagh!

Well said. Great job!

I always enter my recipies in MFP with a serving size of one (1), then figure out what fraction of that serving I'm eating -- whether by weighing, cutting, or scooping, it's just a matter of figuring out the total vs. the portion I'm eating. In this case, I'd weigh the whole thing after cooking, weigh my portion, and then…

I've struggled with the same problem. One thing that helps me is to go to bed early. Once my last calorie of the day is eaten, I head for bed. And I'm up at 0500 every morning, which helps me want to go to bed early. But if I'm ever facing the urge to eat through my larder, then my weapon is the flavor-bomb. Pickled stuff…

My dermatologist says it makes no difference whether you lose quickly or slowly. It is what it is.

I had half my thyroid removed eight years ago, and the other half is probably shot by now from the Hashimoto's disease they diagnosed me with back then. I take my levothyroxine faithfully and see my endocrinologist regularly. I'm convinced that my hypothyroidism has little if anything to do with my weight -- certainly not…

If it would let me turn off the "blog," I'd pay. Otherwise, there is no appeal.

Had mine out 20+ years ago after eating a bunch of cashews. Quite possibly it was all that fat in the cashews that caused an attack. Thought I was dying!

Not so far, and I've lost 79 pounds. Degenerative disk disease is no fun. Steroid shots every three months do help.

People at the gym respect anyone who shows up and works hard. If any don't, take pity on then for being fools. But the ones who matter will respect you more for trying than those who won't try at all.

Emilio Estevez used to vacation in Minnesota because most everything you might like to do, you can do here.

I live three hours away, now, but I still drive to the Twin Cities for the arts. In fact, I'm currently in the middle of a 12-week watercolor class in Minneapolis that meets once a week. It is one of the few things that makes Minnesota worth the horrid winters (we just got 23.5 inches of snow, and it's mid-April). That,…

That reminds me -- I reject the popular notion that you shouldn't deny yourself. That you should occasionally indulge. Not me! I'm as bad with sugar as the worst drunk is with alcohol. Sugar is my heroin. Sweetener is just methadone. Sweets are simply something I can never have. After all, if I DO eat a sweet and I enjoy…

For the first time in my 50 years, I do not crave sweets. I attribute this to my avoidance of most sweetened foods and drink. I used to drink a lot of Crystal Light and diet Mountain Dew. Several months ago I started drinking plain sparkling water instead. I even made myself drink unsweetened green tea sometimes (I used to…

Chemistry degree here. It's a joke, a scam. Carpet-baggers in the business of recruiting other carpet -baggers. Don't waste your money, and don't reveal your ignorance to those who know better.

Great pre-workout, low(er) glycemic index/load snack, and a good source of potassium (although skim milk has more potassium/calorie). I eat a ton of em.

Retired cop here. We were taught to think of everyone as brain-damaged so that we didn't take anything personally. This was mid-career and it revolutionized our department's culture -- overnight, we became professional.

Yes, I have Hashimoto's. Half of my thyroid was removed eight years ago. Levothyroxine dose increases periodically. I've lost 55# from my peak weight by reducing calories and exercising.

The Power of Habit, for sure. I recently bought copies for my children and their own families.
