  • You guys appear to be amazingly fit. As per my Garmin, my RHR is averaging around 63 this month. But in the morning just upon waking up it seems to be a few bpm below at about 60 or so. Trying to get fitter. In the last six months it has come down by almost 10 bpm. Hopefully that trend will continue. I'd love to get this…
  • I think that some caution is warranted when using the usual TDEE calculators for South Asian Indians (SAIs) directly. As Muana1005 mentioned above, for a given BMI, it appears that SAIs tend to have a higher body fat %age when compared to Caucasians. Therefore, in order to calculate TDEEs for SAIs, you will need to base it…
  • Apologies for resurrecting this thread. In a paper from last year (2016), the studies seem to show that Asian Indians have a lower REE when compared with others due to differences in sizes of high metabolic rate organs. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26568151
  • In my case, I have noticed that my RHR has come down over the last 6 months by around 8-9 bpm. Almost 100% cardio (running/walking). Averaging about 30 mins/day.
  • I'm in. It's going to be challenging but worth it. Starting weight - 155 on 7/1/2015 Current weight - 130 on 1/1/2017 January goal - 125 Ultimate goal - 120 Tracking: 1/2 -- 1/9 -- 1/16 -- 1/23 -- 1/30 --
  • Unfortunately, still cannot see either.
  • You have to change the privacy settings on it.
  • @grmckenzie -- Looks like you are having fun with the numbers. I just personally feel that the GC exercise calories are a bit of an overestimate. Unfortunately, I don't have any hard evidence to back this up. For now, I'm just going to try to not eat or drink  back those exercise calories completely.
  • @usmcmp -- Thanks very much. I start rehab on my frozen shoulder next week. I did post in a separate thread and received some good advice on how to deal with this. Pretty much, it looks like patience seems to be the key.
  • Starting with the stats: Male age 48 Height 5'5" Weight 130 lbs (was 150 lbs on May 2015, and came down to 130 lbs in January 2016). Body fat estimate: Roughly navy method using waist and neck diameter gives 18-19% body fat. Thus lean body mass is around 100-105 lbs. Macros: My diet is vegan and I usually have 60 carb/25…
  • Are you allowed to have a mini fridge and a microwave? That can allow lots more freedom and flexibility. Do you go often to your parent's like every weekend or so?
  • I had a version of this chickpea sandwich on Dave's good seed bread for lunch. Yummy and filling. (400 cal with 19 g protein) I also take left over homemade lentil + veggie soup from dinner if you have access to a microwave. If not take a soup thermos. (200 cal with 7g protein). Home made black bean + salsa burritos on…
  • You are welcome. Since you are in college, it can be more difficult to eat well and watch what you eat especially if you are in a dorm without kitchen access. Just do your best. Try to keep things simple. Regarding replacements such as burgers and cheese: I might occasionally eat a veggie burger, especially if I go out to…
  • I have a Garmin Vivoactive HR and it syncs the usual exercise activities. In addition, you automatically get a Garmin Connect Calorie Adjustment based on how active you are throughout the day. This depends on the difference between how many calories MFP thinks you burnt and the calories reported from Garmin Connect.
  • @ janejellyroll -- You are indeed correct. I was generalizing (probably too much).
  • I am on an HCLF diet as well. Not planned but this is how it turns out if you are a vegan. My staples: Starches -- Oats primarily, but also rice and whole wheat pasta occasionally Quinoa Whole grain bread, and whole grain tortilla (preferably sprouted) Cans of beans (garbanzo, black beans) Bananas Frozen Berries Other…
  • @grmckenzie -- Thanks for your reply. While I am not the OP, but I do wear my VAHR tracker all the time. Originally, I had set MFP to Sedentary with 3 workouts/week and 30 mins per exercise as I did not have a tracker and was manually entering workouts into MFP. Now I have removed the exercise levels from MFP and let the…
  • Please add me. Been using MFP for the last few months but new to the forums. Thanks.
  • Homemade tostadas with lentils and salsa. Mmmmmm.
  • I too just got one and am trying to figure this one out.
  • That is awesome to lose 66 pounds. May I ask how long it took?
  • @cheryldumais -- Thanks. While my job is indeed sedentary, I am hoping that the Garmin VAHR will motivate me to keep moving throughout the day with all of the buzzing
  • Thank you so much for all of the advice and encouragement you have provided in this thread. I will update this once I have gone to visit the PT.
  • @queenliz99 -- Thank you for responding. My physician told me that this process could take months. I guess that I have to be patient.
  • Different strokes and all that ... Fatty foods used to taste good but usually made me feel sick and bloated. Veggies and whole grain foods easily fill me up without any of the nasty side effects. Do what works for you.
  • What worked for me was the following: -- Lots of exercise (average 30 mins cardio via running/jogging almost daily) -- To smaller degree, switching more to whole grain carbs from simple carbs. I am a vegetarian and was able to get by Triglycerides down by almost 80 points over 6 months. This was accompanied by a weight…
