  • I'm between 5'5" and 5'6". I'm curious to see what 130-135 would be like, but I'm pretty happy right here fluctuating between 137 and 142. I'm pretty active and have some muscle - not from weight lifting, but from Tabata training and practicing krav maga. I can eat my pizza occasionally and still feel fit. It's a happy…
  • MostlyWater, yes I'm practicing at a MMA facility 3x/week. Cherimoose, Thanks for the feedback! I was mostly hoping to incorporate things like balance because when I'm doing defensive kicks and I do the "see-saw" I feel pretty off-balance and that makes me feel like I'm not getting a very strong kick. I'm not sure if it's…
  • Hi fellow MA practicer! I'm doing Krav Maga. 3x/week with strength training 2x/week and light/recovery days 2x/week. I use a Garmin Vivosmart HR+ in class to track HR/calories (unless we're doing techniques wherein my watch could hurt someone - groundwork/chokeholds/etc.) and I find it to be a really good workout most days…
  • I really love blogilates. Her workouts don't require any additional equipment and they're all free online! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIJwWYOfsCfz6PjxbONYXSg I also have knock-off TRX over-the-door straps that I use at home. Found them at Aldi a while ago for $15. Other than that, just running through sets of…
  • Love it! Budget friendly and has what I need. Mine recently added TRX, and I used that before at another gym so was really happy to have that back in my routine. Everyone is super friendly and I'm able to get in a good workout to supplement my other activities (I practice Krav Maga and enjoy running).
  • If you don't mind secondhand, try ThredUp (https://www.thredup.com/) - an online consignment store. I just checked briefly and found a range from like $9 - $45. Good luck!
  • When I was training for my marathon, I'd do full body workouts twice a week. I'd either do TRX or weights/weight machines. For me it was critical to work on building muscle in my legs to support my hips and knees. Otherwise, I'd end up with joint pain after/during long runs. So, I focused more on lower body, while still…
  • "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from Mulan.
  • I use a flipbelt to hold my cell phone and cards (ID, credit card, health insurance) for my short runs. On my long run, I use an Adventuridge water backpack and use that to hold my mid-run snack too. I use the Garmin Vivosmart HR+ to track my runs with GPS. It also records heart rate, steps, elevation, pace, etc. Perk-…
  • Hi, my Mom and Aunt both have fibromyalgia. My Aunt prefers walking, but if it's cold I'm not sure that's a great idea. My Mom did yoga a lot for a while with a lot of success. She also has lupus, so she's got a lot of joint pain, but yoga was great for her. Good luck!
  • I use the Garmin Vivosmart HR+. Got it for $150 at Best Buy a few months ago. It's waterproof, has a heart rate monitor, counts steps, and has gps for running. It's been really great so far. And it syncs to the garmin connect app which then syncs to myfitnesspal. Looks like you can find them refurbished on Amazon for less.…
  • I'd go for mixing up your routes and pace. Also, I use audiobooks and my favorite rock playlist. I got so bored once in my marathon training run, I started practicing my krav maga punches while running (I'm sure I looked a little looney, lol). Just keep mixing things up.
  • I use Body Glide. I'm training for a marathon and definitely feel you on the chaffing. So far it's worked for me! I'd have raw spots where my water backpack rubbed on my neck, but when I use Body Glide before, I have no issues. Good luck!
  • I use the Garmin Vivosmart HR+. Tracks heart rate, calories, steps, waterproof, gps for running, and it syncs with the garmin connect app which also syncs with myfitnesspal. Bought it a few months ago at Best Buy for $150. Really like it so far. I haven't tried it in water, because I'm a runner, not a swimmer. I do…
  • I really like using Youtube to mix up my workouts. My favorite is Blogilates. She's super encouraging and has tons of videos for variety. She's got some unique strength training exercises as well as HIIT and they're all free! I definitely find my heart rate up during her HIIT videos. Good luck!
