  • I feel for you. Being unhappy with your body is miserable. It is hard to know without more details, like your height, but your profile picture is super cute and at 125 pounds you are probably not overweight, especially since others are telling you that you look healthier. Without any judgement, it sounds like you might be…
  • That calorie burn seems way too high. I read recently that ~300 calories per 10 miles is a useful average, which would put you at a little over half of what your cyclo computer estimated. I wonder if it reported total calories instead of active calories. That seems to be the case with some devices.
  • Do it! I'm 52 and I started with C25K in December after spending 18 months on an elliptical. I now run 4-5 times per week and can run 6 miles relatively comfortably. Just take it as slow as necessary. C25K is intended for alternate days and you can repeat days as many times as you need to. You got this!
  • You didn't have to give the kid anything, but you chose to give him 2 bucks for a cookie. That was nice of you. Giving him more than that was a mistake. The lesson you taught your daughter, her friends, and that kid was that misbehaving gets you more cookies, while being your daughter gets you less. I'm not surprised that…
  • Ideally, you will be positive about her successes and say nothing about what you perceive to be her failures. However, if you really want to know what will be helpful to her, ask her. Everyone is different and she is the only one who knows what will feel supportive to her.
  • Maybe I have small nasal passages, but when I run I can never breathe comfortably out of just my nose. The real question is what pace can you maintain for the required time. Even 4.0 is fine for a very slow jog, if that's what you can do.
  • You have my sympathy. You are in a very difficult situation. Ultimately, however, you cannot live your life for someone else. Your first responsibility is to yourself and that is especially true when it comes to your body. If your husband is really so shallow that your taking care of your health and well-being will be an…
  • I did it in December after doing an elliptical for about 18 months. I blew through it, presumably because of all of the time on the elliptical, and started running continuously after several weeks. I just ran 10K this morning for the third or fourth time. This is the first time I didn't feel like I was dying at the end.…
  • Google it. There are good articles online about it, including some that summarize university research studies on how much Crossfit burns.
  • Speaking as a professor: Unless you have explicitly been told otherwise, asking others to give you the answer to your homework problem is cheating. I'm confident that your professor's advice to take advantage of online resources did not include using the internet to ask others to do the work for you. If you disagree,…
  • It's hard to know without knowing all of the data you put into each one (along with how the do their calculations), but both would give you a deficit of 750/day for a 1.5 pounds/week weight loss goal. The Fitbit presumably has better information about your actual activity level throughout the day, but both are just…
  • I am routinely annoyed by other people's lack of ESP too. Why the *kitten* can't they just read my mind and know what I want!!!

  • So you are 40 pounds down from where you started. Congrats! That's still great. And now you are ready to recommit and lose even more. That's even better! Things happen. It's ok. You didn't fail, you just stopped succeeding as much for a while. Forgive yourself and move on. You got this.
  • A rough estimate is better than no estimate. A quick Google search shows lots of information about the calorie burn for Crossfit workouts, including some based on university research studies. Those are also probably going to yield reasonably good estimates.
  • It's in the database as a cardio exercise. One of my friends adds it daily.
  • Great job! It's time to change your name to Kellyflatbelly!
  • I don't have any advice to offer about binge eating disorder, but I want to respond to what you said about being a bad person and eating bad food. You are absolutely NOT a bad person, and there is no such thing as bad food. I really encourage you to let go of that kind of thinking. I believe it just sabotages you. You are…
  • Speaking as a guy ... meh, whatever. There are so many things that are more important to me. I have them, too, if you know where to look.
  • It's just misguided concern from people who care about you. I have had a few similar experiences. You can accept and even be grateful for their concern without accepting their (mistaken) judgement. For example, you could say, "I really appreciate your concern, but I am working with a doctor and I am nowhere near a…
  • That calorie burn seems suspiciously high. I bet that is total calories, rather than active calories. I weigh 200 pounds and my active calories are around 5 per minute when walking and 10 per minute when running. It seems unlikely that yours would be so much higher, even walking on an incline.
  • Sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. Even in the worst relationships there are usually some positives, but when the negatives outweigh the positives it is time to move on. Big changes are always difficult and it hurts to lose the good parts even when you know it is the right thing to do. Be kind to yourself, give…
  • The only appropriate response to that is to admit that you don't spend time with people that like to sabotage your goals, and then follow through on it by not spending time with her.
  • Speaking as a formerly obese 52 year old who used to hate running, but now kind of loves it... Life is full of choices. After many years of fighting with myself over them much like you describe, I realized that at some point we have to choose and accept the consequences of our decisions. You don't need to do anything.…
  • Based on everything you have said, my guess is that you are losing fat, but retaining some water. Water retention can easily mask a few pounds of weight loss and is common with a high-intensity exercise program. It can also vary due to time of month, etc. Because of that, plus varying amounts of food waste in your system,…
  • Ummm @DeficitDuchess... I'm not sure where you are coming from with this. Did you read the title of the thread and her post? She is specifically asking why she is losing inches but not weight (and 1.4 pounds is not enough to represent 3 inches). If the 3 inches is from her belly, the answer is that her muscles are getting…
  • You did not mention how much you are eating. Are you eating at a calorie deficit, or just eating "clean"? If you don't maintain a calorie deficit, you won't lose weight, no matter how clean you eat and no matter how much you exercise.
  • The secret is to make small changes and focus on small goals: Set up MFP for 2 lbs/week weight loss, log your meals, aim for your daily calorie target, and try to do some kind of physical activity daily. That's all. If you do that, you will lose weight. Don't even worry too much about what you are eating, just adjust your…
  • I'm 52 and I started C25K in December at 225 pounds after doing an elliptical for 18 months. I blew through it, presumably because of the elliptical workouts, and started running continuously after just a few weeks. I'm now down to 198 pounds and up to maybe 15+ miles per week. I have had some knee soreness, especially…
  • Of course you can. Like many things in life, it's a choice. If you want it bad enough, you do what it takes to make it happen. If not, you find excuses not to. It's as simple as that. Making it happen means tracking your calories rigorously and maintaining a modest calorie deficit daily. It helps to get some kind of…
