Yesterday's hike to Ware River, where I also paddle at times.

Sunny and 45º this morning. This week will get into 80s here. Hiked 2 miles yesterday, wildflowers coming out — lady slippers and columbine — and saw a beaver building a new lodge in the swamp the trail goes by. And a heron nest atop a dead tree, heron flying away as soon as I got close. Cardiologist checkup today. More…

Good morning. Church this morning. Cool and breezy, I like this weather, I will get out for a hike. Haven't walked last couple of days. Talked to DB last night, they are unloading their log cabin in NH and bought a ranch in a retirement development in FL. Will miss having them within driving distance even though I don't…

Morning… All fogged in this morning. Not sure what's on the schedule today. A fellow in town told me he saw two bears on Thursday, a 300-pounder 1/2 mile up the road from me and a cub on rte. 122. Another guy says he had two in his yard. Northeast only has black bears, I guess they're not as feisty as brown/grisly bears.…

Mornin'. Gophers—yes, a cat might help, and I recall Steve did a thing with his exhaust pipe and some hoses to gas all the varmints? Maybe he makes house calls… Sam, glad you're able to do things to the point you can, tending to DW and getting around a bit; the vege garden can wait. Sleep apnea tele-visit this morning,…

Nice canoeing yesterday, river was high so we got an arm workout going upstream first half of the trip. Stopped and bushwacked into a swamp where I thought there was a heron rookery, but saw only one nest atop a dead tree. Scared up a bald eagle that flew ahead of us awhile as we headed down river, and we almost ran over a…

Up and packing canoe gear. Paddling the Ware R. in Oakham today. Will hike from the river to explore a nearby heron rookery while there. Yesterday I hiked 2 miles along a different section of the Ware, and saw a beaver up on the shore nibbling greens. Watched him a while; they are bigger than I thought. Gotta run…

Mornin' Did another two mile hike yesterday, and feeling like my flu symptoms are now just about all gone. Meanwhile, DD has caught what I had, or something very similar, and feels miserable. Hopefully she'll weather it better than I did. Tomorrow I'm hoping to do some paddling on a river somewhere near. DS tells me two of…

Mornin', and a happy Memorial Day. My folks are all buried in So. Connecticut, too far to visit their graves much anymore. Growing up there was always a parade starting from the center of town, speeches in the cemetery, and firing of guns to salute to the military men who were buried there. Ended with Taps, echoing over…

Mornin’ Graduation was your usual hours of lengthy speeches, awards and handling out diplomas, the low point being when the college registrar read the proclamation (in latin words) on the diploma. But DGD graduated with high honors and I’m proud of her. She’s working in Cape Cod this summer and teaching Chemistry in…

Another chilly 40º morning, but rain stopped. Poured all day yesterday and into the night. Bob, cool story about the log cabin where you lived while in grad school and the free firewood slabs floating on the pond. DGD graduation this morning. It's at 10:15 but have to park in the city and walk to the arena. Parking garage…

‘mornin gents. Rainy morning and only 40°, I may still try to get out for a walk but need to dress carefully. DGD’s graduation is tomorrow morning in downtown Worcester civic center, fun parking adventure and getting to hear long boring speeches till it’s over. We’ll get together at DD’s house tomorrow evening for a party…

Morning… Somehow missed check-in yesterday. Got out for a 1-mile walk/hike with slight hills and a rocky path along a brook. Lungs and stamina seemed okay. Cold/flu symptoms much better, and this morning started taking Mucinex to hopefully clear the last of the chest congestion. I think I'm done with being sick. Heard my…

Brushing off my German. Good morning. Cold/flu/whatever virus seems to be letting go of my head and chest finally. Yesterday seemed miserable. I was hoping to go camping in VT next weekend ; not sure if that’s going to happen. Lee, too bad about the dogs; the judges probably need more experience recognizing true greatness.…

Mornin'… Rainstorms last night and now sunny and a cool breeze. DD came over with some homemade chicken soup, with chunks of roasted chicken thighs in it. Delicious. DD is having trouble adjusting to her job, plus not making enough to make ends meet. Church later. Hopefully will get out for another good walk. We have a…

Morning men. Cool and a foggy mist in the air. Went for a 2-mile walk before breakfast this morning. Figured it would loosen congestion and it sure has. Now sitting on my balcony with coffee listening to the birds and going through boxes of Kleenex. DD may bring some homemade chicken soup this afternoon. Doctor suggested…

Good Morning… Went for a chest X-ray yesterday after I noticed wheezing on top of all the other symptoms I have. No pneumonia fortunately. Doc hasordered an inhaler if symptoms get worse. Was able to go for a walk late afternoon, about a mile. And this morning feeling a bit more rested, less congested Maybe finally back up…

Sam, Joanne had bloodclots in lungs?! My goodness, poor gal. I’m going to pray for a smooth recovery now and hope for the best. Steve, I find clutter always expands into all the existing storage space. Laws of physics. Dense misty fog this morning and 60°. Can’t see 50 feet. Instead of Vicks steam I’ll just go walk…

Mornin' Slept okay last night and feel a mite better this morning, though still coughing and stuffy, but sore throat seems gone. EX offered to get me stuff I needed, so I texted her a short grocery list yesterday. Called me 6 times from the store: what color beans? what kind of oranges? etc. But I was grateful, was running…

Have a nice hike up the Duckabush. Sounds wonderful. Sam, your wife is in my prayers. Hoping for her to have a good outcome from all of this. And take care of that arm! Saw a doctor yesterday. Not COVID, no pneumonia sounds so far. If flu, it's too late to bother to test for it since drugs needed first day or two. Zyrtec…

Mornin' Up coughing all night — and that's hard to do with a CPAP mask on. Still have sore throat, runny nose, cough, and I think I had low fever last night, 99.4º. And I feel just plain miserable. Will call my doctor's office after they open up. They have nurse assistants who can sometimes see people on short notice, if…

Beautiful spring morning here. My sore throat is evolving into a cough and runny nose. Bought a new COVID test kit, as my others were a year expired; it was negative but supposed to retest tomorrow to confirm. Took tylenol last night and slept better. Watched Celtics-Nicks game with DS. Picked up a wood-fired pizza, topped…

'Morning, men. Family get togethers can be good. My dad always told me to stay in touch with my brothers as we got older, not as some families do and drift apart. It's a help as you go through life. In Mass. we have a pretty efficient DMV, but you can also go to a AAA office if you are a member and do all the things you…

Bob, I heard the new pope lived in South America quite a long time, missionary in Peru I think…

Yesterday's sun and warmth blew away with another T-storm and downpour, and now this morning we're back to chilly and foggy. "So foggy you can't see your hand in front of your face … without opening your eyes", as my father used to tell me when I was a boy. Never imagined an American pope—people were saying perhaps some…

Thought I had checked in, but it disappeared…. Had piano class this morning —new teacher is now in the hospital with a broken leg. That’s two. Egad. The group met up though and played some of the music we’re working on. Good luck to DW, Sam. Steve, ouch with the knee. Hope it goes away, but good to have checked if lingers.…

Rain finally stopped. Local hiking club cancelled their 3 xs a week hikes because of mud. Might even see the sun again today. Busy day, chores and errands. Have a good day.
-
Mornin' 50º and thick fog here this morning, which we had all day yesterday as well. There were flood warnings yesterday, from the several T-storms that went through last few days. I should get my pole out and catch a few. Haven't fished in a number of years, other than through a hole in the ice. I should've known that was…

Rainy spring morning here; 55º. Rain held off yesterday for the party at DD's. Lot's of kids there—they really liked DSIL's frog pond. It's got a small waterfall as well. Nice to see folks having a nice time. DD's MIL came to the church but not her husband who is in the hospital. Lost 50 lbs. mystery illness plus blood…
