I'm back this month after a hiatus off MFP to reset my mind and I've lost weight in the process.. I'm mainly doing HIIT on various equipment at the gym, so I'm low mileage but just trying to stay in 5k shape to be able to run one at any given moment :) my goal on paper would be one run per week right now while focusing…

Call me a fairweather friend.. but I'm back after most the summer off. I'm going slowly back into it and hopefully seeing a podiatrist this month to figure out ongoing aches in my flat feet. I don't really have a goal except to stay able to run 5k races whenever I see one that looks interesting. My next 5k is 10/21 with a…

Hi all. Just wanted to drop in to say Holabird Sports facebook page is doing giveaways all day today, on the hour, for running shoes. Last hour was Saucony, this hour is Altra. I think you just like, share, and comment on the current hour's giveaway. :)

I don't know if you have allergies, but since getting my allergies back under control, my asthma is doing way better. The humidity in my area has been the biggest hurdle this summer. There's not really much I can do for that besides dehumidifier. I just listen to my body. If I'm gasping for air, I don't keep pushing…

I conquered my fear of trying something new and went to dragon boat rowing practice last night after a freak out session on the drive there. Loved every minute of it and my shoulders are feeling it today. The rowing coach was super funny and said "I would make you all run for conditioning, but since 75% of you wore flip…

I'm in for 3.1 miles for sure with a 5k mid august! :P I became an alternate for my company's dragon boating team today, I think they do some conditioning at practice, so I may get a few extra miles in. In all seriousness, I am determined to get one run in a week at minimum.

@JessicaMcB @RespectTheKitty sorry I'm late to this discussion but my doctor had me try Paxil because I told him my brain felt go go go all the time. The biggest side effect was craving carbs and all the reviews mentioned that. It was so true. I would get off work and easily eat 1000 calories of not so good carbs and my…

Shakeology made me eat more because I figured out I can't get my meals through a shake. It made me hungrier and crave real food. That was just my experience. They also aren't that pleasant tasting unless you add in fruits and other ingredients. Beachbody on Demand is my jam though. I do still own most of them on dvd…

Hi guys. I want a mulligan on July. Besides having an injury, my ac went out this past weekend when it was 102 outside. It's now kinda working but sounds subpar so I'm not holding my breath. I felt sick like I got overheated in my own house so I'm just now feeling back up to working out. I just wanted to drop in and say I…

Hello group! I finally got in my groove of regular workouts again, so much I was going to try running even a mile after work. But add me to the "down, but not out" list. I was sitting on the ground vacuuming cat litter last night and all 20 lbs of vacuum fell over and directly hit my lumbar area. A sports med physician in…

So I have a tennis tournament this Saturday and I haven't played tennis since college.. should be interesting. At least it's a fun one for charity, so no real pressure. I haven't been running much because I see why people avoid the treadmill. It brings out aches I don't have while road running, but right now it is just too…

@MobyCarp Thank you for that tidbit. I could not find the lifespan anywhere. I have two separate pairs so I think my work shoes I wear almost everyday are getting close to end of life. My running store have them for $50, so $35 sounds way better. I mean I'm all about supporting local, but if I buy two pairs at a time, it…

@PastorVincent at one of my hospitals, they had a fire setup to teach us how to use a fire extinguisher instead of just watching videos how. The fire extinguisher they made me use was almost as tall as me and I failed at putting out the fire. I had trouble aiming it at the base of the fire. My boyfriend at the time was a…

I'm sure someone here has experience to help me.. I have Superfeet hard sole, flat feet insoles in my work and running shoes. How do I know when they're worn out and past their prime? Do you just figure they're worn out when the shoes get worn out? And if anyone has a recommendation for a better brand or somewhere that…
-
Thanks @PastorVincent!! Congrats to your wife on her run! Running with asthma is no joke and that's excellent to hear about the meds!
-
Oh and best of luck @MNLittleFinn! Can't wait to hear the recap!

I can cross do a 5k in 93 degree weather off my list.. slowest time yet but that's understandable beings it is hot and I've been sick. I'm proud of myself even if everyone else thinks I'm dumb in my close group. It was down on the river, which I heard people talking that it's somewhere you shouldn't run except for…

I have my "Hot 5k" tonight..still unsure what I'll do, probably walk it-with my head held high :) funny thing, on my drive to work, the radio said "be careful today, it's the hottest day of the season so far". I guess they picked the right day to do the 5k. It will have beer, brats, and snow cones after. I may partake in a…

@WhatMeRunning any insight on this for her?

@girlinahat that sounds refreshingly cool so I'll take that risk haha. And @elise4270 I've gotten to the point, I really don't need music anymore. I'm more focused on my breathing that music just becomes white noise, but I may check those out!
-
@Elise4270 @girlinahat I go to a park with a trail and everyone there has their music playing on their phone with no headphones in. I passed about 10 in one run that were doing that. Even before I set out on that run, I myself thought about doing it because it's safer than wearing headphones, but I'm so self conscious I…

You know it's summer when it's already 90 by 7:30 am. I need to move where it's cool, fall weather year round ;) finally got a workout in! Insane Basics, which is a watered down version of Insanity, but still super hard. My legs are so stiff today, despite foam rolling them several times and stretching. Tonight I have a…

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. I'm still feeling pretty knocked down, but it's maybe because I can't take it easy. I love when my jobs tell me I can't call in sick again because my replacements aren't as good as me, or so they tell me :) I think walking the 5k this Friday night is seeing as my only option. I…

I've been sick since Monday and put off getting swabbed for strep.. well they say it's positive and now I also have an upper respiratory infection due to asthma. Every night when I get off work, I just go home and sleep. Usually I hate rest days, but I don't even have energy to shower or make dinner. I have a 5k next…

I always love catching up on everything Monday morning. My 1 mile Glow walk was interesting Friday night. I'm glad I didn't do the 5k. The course wasn't really marked and no marshalls. It was a very confusing course..I think a lot of people got lost on it beings the same person passed us three times or so. I think it was…

@WhatMeRunning maybe I'll add that to my lineup for next year and relive that nightmare..i mean quality bonding time with my aunt. She used to live right by the plaza, now she lives in Lee's Summit. I was going to do the Stars and Stripes 5k in Lee's Summit to visit her, but decided to do the one in Wichita instead
-
@WhatMeRunning My aunt signed me up for the Hospital Hill 5k when I was like 10 and didn't tell me what we were doing. I was just on vacation visiting her. I thought I was going to die the entire time, but I enjoyed the free pair of tiny running shorts I got for finishing haha. Good luck with it! Maybe I'll do it next year!

I had a hip scope and still two years later, my running just feels different. My hip no longer gets the twinges and I really feel back to normal. Just maybe during my running, I favor the hip, without even knowing it, for fear of hurting it. If anything, ask your healthcare team. Maybe it needs more strengthening exercises…

My goal isn't mileage but repition and consistency? 2 runs at least per week with gradually increasing distance. Life happened last month and hoping for a better June. Bring on the heat? June Activites: 6/2- Glow for Life 1 mile walk (because I convinced my mom to do it and she doesn't run) :) 6/16- Sizzlin Summer Hot 5k

@MNLittleFinn there's this x-ray view I take on knee series called the "sunrise view" that sees if the patella is tracking correctly when the knee is bent. You lay down and bend your knee, then the xray shoots through the bent knee joint space. Just an FYI
