I tried a 5x5, my conclusion.. gained some size in a few weeks but I cut it short because I found the heavy weights low reps more taxing on my joints especially with trying to progressively overload

You should start getting stronger! You will love the confidence that comes with it! As for the stretch marks I'd recommend trying oils, they really work and for the skin, over time and not a short time it will start to get better!:)
