  • I think mine are 100 - 200 calories low. I set it as sedatary because I have a desk job, but I try to get up and move and take stairs when possible. I use the calorie level MFP sets so I can be a little sloppy with logging when I eat at a restaurant and am just guessing about the calories in the food. I’m not gaining and…
  • As others have said, Apple Watch integration with MFP stinks. I’ve been in maintenance since April and still log food and exercise, but I use the AW activity as a guideline for my activity level. I manually put in exercise calories in MFP based on what my watch says. I also assume that inactive on MFP is about 200 active…
  • I lost 73 lbs and didn’t even watch the macros. I know that I have to eat some protein to fill full and need a lot of fiber in my diet. It all works itself out with me making the food choices I need to feel good. I have no desire to obsesss over macros. My goodness, restricting how much I eat is hard enough.
  • Look at maintenance calories for the weight you want to be and decide if you can live with it. I’m 5’8” and 51 and today I weighed 158. I know I could lose a few more around my belly, but it’s been really hard getting lower. I also want to balance enjoying life and feeling great. I feel great now and do not feel like I’m…
  • I had to tell my family while I’m losing weight they have to support my weight loss goals by choosing dinner out at places that had the calories published. I really had to insist on it. They love me and wanted me to be happy, because I would get really grumpy if they wanted to eat out too much at places that were too…
  • Yep, that’s why I will log and weigh forever. I have only one hunger cue and it’s “I’m hungry so let’s eat”. I went on a 5 night cruise and gained 6 lbs and I didn’t even eat everything I wanted. I also exercised a lot. I’m willing to put in the work to keep this weight off. It’s worth it.
  • Yes! I lost 72 lbs. My feet never hurt from walking. I don’t snore anymore. I do have more energy, but sometimes I forget I’m not fat and think I’m too tired to do something, but I’m actually not too tired. It’s weird how my brain thinks I am still obese, but when I get up and move I realize I’m not obese anymore. It gives…
  • I’m 5’8” and 160. I feel really good at this weight. I am a large/medium frame and 51. I really wanted to lose 5 lbs more, but I start feeling bad below 159 and give up and go back to maintainamce. I’ve always been overweight or obese and have gained and lost at least 50 lbs about 9 times and haven’t ever been under 170…
  • Mine did. 90/60 is still normal. I got below that while still eating at a deficit and trying to lose just a few more pounds. While feeling very tired one day I took my BP and it was 88/56, so I decided to stop trying to lose and start maintenance. I’m in the healthy weight range for my height. I also add salt to my food…
  • I went on a 5 night cruise this month and gained 6 lbs. 5 lbs came off after a week at a 500 calorie a day deficit, then another week of a smaller deficit the extra lb came off (probably the real fat gain). I got all the free eating out of my system and was excited to get back to normal. Sometimes it’s good to enjoy…
  • I understand that, but the OP didn’t want to use the AW resting calories but the lower number BMR given to her plus AW active calories. I was demonstrating that AW resting calories is more than BMR, so that wouldn’t work.
  • Apple is not using a BMR for resting. If it were it wouldn’t change based on exercise. Here are my charts for Monday.
  • Where did you get that calorie burn number? That seems really high for walking. My Apple Watch says I burn 212 calories for 52 min walking at least 3.5 MPH. It’s about 3.2 miles. I weigh 159. I don’t know what you weigh, but walking doesn’t burn as much as we think unfortunately.
  • 1) Exercise does help! It makes you feel good about yourself. 2) I’m very familiar with over eating due to stress. I’ve learned that it’s a lot about impulse control. I eat it impulsively and tell myself I won’t think about how this makes me feel (after the brief feel good it gives me). I decided I wanted to be a better…
  • I don’t think so. The Apple Watch resting calories includes additional calories while you move around or exercise. For example, my resting calories when my watch is not on me is about 59 calories an hour. If I wear my watch and exercise, my resting calories can go up to 89 calories for that hour PLUS the additional active…
  • Same bad sync experience with Apple Watch and MFP too. Logging step calories and then removing them if I log exercise. It stopped syncing exercise last week so I do it manually now. If you really want the fitness device to sync well with MFP, don’t buy an Apple Watch.
  • My Apple Watch stopped syncing exercise calories when I update MFP this week. I just log active exercise calories manually in MFP.
  • I’ve had 50 grams of peanut butter on toast for dinner twice this week. Still within my calorie limit. Yum
  • OP, did you cut out caffeine? I notice brain fog when I cut caffeine to a lower level than I’m used to. Add caffeine through tea or coffee and it could help the brain fog.
  • Wow, 60 lbs in 5 months is really fast. It sounds like you cut calories way too much and lost weight really fast. Now you are hungry from restricting a lot. I suggest going slow and setup MFP for a 1.5 lb a week loss until you hit 200 lbs and then change it to 1 lb a week. Be patient and the weight will come off. Just…
  • I disagree. The only way I would not feel restricted is to eat as much as I want. The only way to maintain is to restrict the number of calories I eat. I don’t have rules about what food I can eat, but I do watch my total calories for the day. I am still hungry on some days and still have the urge to binge when not…
  • My hip to waist ratio was better before I got into the normal BMI weight range. I kept losing more from my hips as my weight went down and not from my waist. 5’ 8” - 37” hips and 30” waist. I think I’m healthier at a lower weight. The ratio would say I was healthier at a higher weight, which is stupid.
  • I chose 5 lbs below the top of the normal BMI range. I am desperate to maintain and I could keep losing but I want to live life and not kill myself with exercise every day to maintain a lower weight. Remember once you lose it, you have to maintain it. Would you be happy if you have to eat at the maintenance level of…
  • I suggest just walking and skip the Zumba for now. Even walking is hard work when you are obese. Also biking is easier on the knees. Pleas believe me...You don’t have to exercise like the Biggest Loser to lose weight. Start slow so you don’t quit because of an injury. I lost 72 lbs walking and using the elliptical. I…
  • I’m starting to think my Apple Watch is low on some active calories. I do the elliptical a few times a week and it seems really low for those workouts. I’m in maintenance and am still losing a little weight. Also the AW does not sync all active calories (step + exercise) with MFP so that’s a problem too. I’m thinking of…
  • Thank you for the encouragement!
  • I wonder what slow loss means? I’ve been overweight or obese pretty much my entire life. I’m 51, down to 159 and 5’8”. It took me about 15 months to get here. I’m 5.5 lbs below the top of the normal range. I’ve never, ever maintained below 170 for more than a couple of weeks. I’ve been under 170 for a few months now. I…
  • About 10 lbs in the overweight BMI range for me, but I carry my weight in my torso more than my legs and hips. After losing 72 lbs I’m about 5 lbs below the highest normal BMI weight, so not that skinny. I now have to consciously walk with a wide gape or I will trip over my own feet. It’s very weird that my legs don’t…
  • Six weeks into maintenance after 72 lb loss and I’m still in diet mode. I am hungry a lot. Some days I feel so hungry I tell myself “one day at a time, push through the pain and tomorrow you will feel better.” I always do and am thrilled to wake up the next day feeling great. I log all my calories and use an Apple Watch to…
  • Same as OP. I’m in maintenance and I love being able to wear anything in my closet and it fits or is loose! Love being able to run up flights of stairs and walk for miles and my feet don’t hurt. Love not worrying about what I look like in pictures. Love not dreading meeting people for the first time. Love splitting a…
