  • My doc referred me to diabetes nutritionist, who gave me the usual propaganda and said he's supposed to recommend up to 50g carbs per meal. I had done atkins in the past and thought it would help me lose some weight and asked his opinion. He says most people just can't stick to it. He admitted that if I can manage to go…
  • the problem is that most oils are damaged by high heat. look for things with highest smoke point. I didn't realize tallow was that expensive, but I know 2ketodudes highly recommend it for frying because it is more stable at high heat than cheaper 'vegetable' oils. If you can get some big chunks of fat from family or a…
  • Thanks. That is just what I need
  • I ordered drinks like Diet Coke that I know should be zero calories zero carbs but I think the server screwed up and gave me a drink with sugar. Has only happened mostly at drive thru where I can’t just say to bring me another. A few times in a restaurant when I think it tastes too sweet they’ll bring another without any…
  • I signed up for the free 30 days and was binge watching the videos for that month. It’s great content and I feel like it’s got good science behind it. I’m not good at following meal plans but you can get access to those as well with the paid plan
  • I totally agree with @nvmomketo. after my T2D diagnosis, it took me quite a bit of stumbling around advertisements for unqualified scams trying to sell you a "quick fix" for only 29.99 & to finally find real doctors with real solutions. I think some of the best information I've found about diabetes was from Dr. Bernstein's…
  • I buy a big bag of spinach for salad and when It starts looking a little limp, cook some bacon and then toss the rest of the bag of spinach in the pan with the bacon fat and toss until wilted. Add a little lemon juice or other acid like ACV to balance the fat, and serve topped with the bacon.
  • there is some interesting information there, but the spelling errors and frequently calling fat people 'blessed' make me question his intelligence.
  • Mark has a "carb curve" and 50-100g total carbs per day should still be in weight loss range. https://www.marksdailyapple.com/how-to-succeed-with-the-primal-blueprint/ It is all about what you eat though. When I did Atkins about 10 years ago, we were eating a lot of meat and I had to stay under 20g net carbs (total -…
  • Last few weeks, I have started more often doing "bulletproof" coffee with 1 TBS each of butter and MCT oil (improves ketones, but doesn't add flavor) in a very large coffee mug. it's less convenient, because you need to blend it to emulsify the butter and make it taste "creamy". otherwise the oil/butter just floats on top…

  • Your A1C is doing better at 4.9%, so I would not worry about blood glucose being higher at a momentary spot. a lot of non-food things can affect blood glucose like being sick or stressed.
  • I'm diabetic. Last year, I was doing low carb and consistently having morning readings in 130s. So, this year I've decided to step up my game and adding intermittent fasting as well. about 6 weeks ago I started limiting food to 8-hour window each day and fasting 16 hours each day. I didn't notice a big change at first, but…
  • I usually order cheeseburger no bun on those days. some places are nice enough to throw on a bit of extra lettuce and tomato if you ask.
  • I keep hearing that from a lot of keto people who had problems in the past. without the rollercoaster highs and then lows caused by carbs, I don't feel as "starved" to the point of breaking like I used to when we've tried calorie restriction. I'm trying 16:8 intermittent fasting, and it is getting easier to miss a meal. I…
  • Adding 16:8 intermittent fasting to my low carb diet is making a difference. I'm diabetic, so that is more of a concern for me than weight. I'm getting blood sugar readings under 100 mg/dL. every week my average readings are going down by about 5mg/dL. soon I will be consistently in "Normal" range.
  • on high, the rice cooker is hot enough to boil water and cook rice or other grains. this may or may not be similar to the high setting on slow cooker, but I would think it might be a little hotter. it will auto shut down as soon as the heat rises above boiling point - for rice this is the correct time due to all the water…
  • @chinatowninchina congrats! I'm not there yet, but can't wait until it's time to clear out all the "too big" clothes!

  • Blood glucose reading yesterday before exercise of 87 mg/dL :) . finally something in "Normal" range. Morning glucose reading was 108 today, where mornings have typically been in the 120's :s

  • I'm aiming for 16 hours no food including at least 13 hours strictly water fasting (per Dr. Satchin Panda Circadian studies). I use Zero app for tracking and flexible schedule as to when I take lunch, so lunch is 16+ hours after end of dinner. My eating window is from about 1 pm to 9pm. I'm still getting used to this, and…
  • raw eggs? I remember my grandmother used to make a custard base for her homemade ice cream, but the mixture would be cooked over the stove to thicken, then cooled for a while before putting in the ice cream maker.
  • I've found best price on parmesan crisps at Sam's club. zero carb and very tasty. I also use them as "croutons" on my salads. https://www.samsclub.com/sams/mm-parm-crisps-9-5-oz/prod21340959.ip
  • Obviously, the calories in calories out model isn't doing what you want it to do. I would suggest trying a different approach. First, I think you've heard this enough, but I do still agree - To preserve muscle, don't drop your protein intake and don't drop your calories too low. carbs cause insulin rise, which tells your…
  • very good information. I've been watching Dr. Bernstien's diabetes University on youtube, I'm about halfway through that series. I feel like that has been the best source of information for me regarding how to manage diabetes. I'm type 2, and a lot of the information is based on his experience as type 1, but a lot of it is…
  • avocados. most carbs are fiber, so low "net carb". no prep, but not as easy to eat "on the go". my usual quick snacks are cheese, nuts, olives. you can't eat too much but just a few ounces of high fat snack are enough to keep me happy for a couple hours.
  • I go to an indoor pool 3x each week and swim laps for 20 to 30 minutes, and general exercises and resistance training in the water for another 20 to 30 minutes. I've noticed great improvements in my endurance and I can really feel that my muscles have strengthened a lot. I know there is some muscle gain that has balanced…
  • I'm diabetic and have been doing a lot of research on how to fix myself. It is my understanding that the damage to arteries and many other diabetic complications are caused by high blood sugar, not necessarily the high insulin. Maybe they just tell us this because it is easy to track blood glucose levels with fingertip…
  • agree w/ @RalfLott. Docs and American Diabetes Assoc. set that threshold much too high. You do need to understand if A1C is over 7% you are still at a high risk for severe, life-threatening diabetic complications. I found out an old friend has full kidney failure. She said, but I did what the doctor told me and kept A1C <…
  • I once made the mistake of skipping the sugar in my dry rub for some ribs, but then stupidly added the same generous amount of dry rub to the meat, resulting in pretty much 2x the salt and spices. Way too salty, but ate em anyway. I won't make that mistake again.
