  • I'm focusing on logging and getting an hour's exercise every day, outside if possible, otherwise treadmill. Snacking hasn't been a problem, for a change- so many people are struggling now to choose food over rent, to me it seems selfish to eat between meals. Trying to keep busy, hoping this ends soon.
  • There are so many people that have lost weight and then gained it back, and more, that they are genuinely surprised when someone actually keeps the weight off! Some peop,e are very uncomfortable with others' success, it emphasizes their own failure; I think that is where the snarky comments come from. Enjoy the feeling of…
  • I've worked from home for 20+ years. I'll never go back to commuting! The savings in wardrobe, car wear and tear, food and, most importantly, time, is like a 25% raise!
  • Do something that involves both hands where you can't eat, like puzzles, sewing, needle work (knit/crochet/cross-stitch); get outside for a walk; reorganize your closet; change around the furniture. Stay away from the kitchen 😥
  • Give yourself a pat on the back for wanting to change! Small victories help us move forward. One meal at a time is how some days are for me. Reading others' posts has been a tremendous motivator for me, so inspiring. Stay strong!
  • Reading posts has been a HUGE help with keeping me motivated. Keep on trying, you can do this, we're all with you.
  • Try not to give in to the binges, it's just not worth the few minutes of gratification. You work so hard to get healthy and eat right, you deserve to feel good about all your success. Think about how crappy you feel after a binge, and use that as incentive to resist the urge.
  • Binge eating is the hardest thing, it's not like you can give up eating altogether. I struggle with it still, two years in with MFP. Right now, I am doing well. Don't look back at your fails, look ahead to your successes. Each time you honestly track is a win! Let that motivate you to continue winning, you deserve it!

  • When we eat out, not often at all, I immediately split my meal in half and take the rest home for another meal. I eat veg first, then protein, then starch if any. If unsure of how the entree is prepared, ask for it to be steamed if possible.
  • Quest protein bars have 20g of protein and have several flavors, 200 calories but low net carbs.
  • Another reason I'm not on FB
  • You can count on me too. I'm 57, and have been on MFP for almost two years. I lost 60, but gained back 14! Now I'm back tracking EVERYTHING and exercising every day, and have lost 7. Believe me, some days are tough and I just wanna give up, but I've worked so hard to get here. There are so many posts that are inspiring.…
  • That's why we're here, to support each other as we struggle (again). We can do this. One step, one day, even one meal at a time. Give yourself a pat on the back, you're trying 😥
  • Lots of opinions both for and against PF, but it gets people in who might otherwise not be able to afford a gym membership, especially those on a fixed income. My PF opened about six months ago, and I joined then. It's close to home (>mile), clean, with friendly staff. Most times when I'm there, it has a good amount of…
  • Kudos on trying the elliptical, it's definitely a workout. I switch between that, rower and treadmill. I have a tm at home, so that gets the most use. At the gym, the rower is the best all-around workout by far.
  • After many emails back and forth to customer service, I found out the calories burned on my treadmill is based on 185 pounds, which is a standard often used for exercise machines.
  • I feel your pain. I've done the same thing, and now I'm back on track. You've worked so hard to get the weight off, you are too valuable to take your health for granted. Portion control allows a wider variety of foods you love: Split your portion in half before you start eating, take the rest home for another meal; at a…
  • My current schedule is to alternate weights at the gym, treadmill in the basement, and walking outside. The first two, I listen to music; outside, I enjoy the sounds of nature, especially when I am near the ocean. If you can get some time to move doing something you love, focusing not so much on calories burned and more on…
  • Same here! Lost 60, then gained back 10, mostly from snacking on junk and not logging EVERYTHING, and not exercising. I'm back on the program, strictly logging and exercising, and have lost 3.5 pounds. Sometimes I get tired of all the logging, but if doing that is how to keep the weight off for good, it's a small price to…
  • This. The best you can do is lead by example. It's up to her to make the changes needed, you can't do it for her. In my experience, sisters can be a challenge to deal with when it comes to being overweight and dieting (4 sisters). I understand your concern about her, but let her be.
  • Welcome! You can do this, the support on MFP is amazing. Yoga is a great way to start. Best of luck! I've lost 60 pounds in 18 months, trying to get that stubborn 10 to 15 more off now. Staying motivated by reading these posts has helped tremendously.
  • What helps me: * Take a small portion in a bowl, put the package away, then go sit down. Don't eat out of the package. * Brush your teeth right after you eat supper. * Have fresh fruit and nonfat Greek yogurt for dessert. * Fitting sweets into your day makes a difference, even if it's just a few bites. Eat slowly and savor…
  • Working out right after work works for me, it's like an extension of my job, something I HAVE to do. During my lunch break, I change into my workout clothes, so as soon as I sign off work, I can get moving.
  • The BBC documentary called Obesity Postmortem is what got me determined to succeed with weight loss. It scared the s$%# out of me! Seriously, watch this and you'll be shocked into doing something.
  • I'm still working, 57, lost 60 pounds over the past two years on MFP. I'd like to lose another 20, as I've gained back ten pounds this winter. We live in Maine, so it's cold here. I joined a gym and do weights three times a week, and do cardio three times a week, either at the gym, outside walking, or on my treadmill in…
  • Marinating chicken helps make leftovers moist. I have mine cold in a salad, or a sandwich. Another fave way to cook it is dredge in melted butter, then in a bread crumb/spice/grated cheese mixture and bake, and the last 5 minutes, broil. Tastes good cold or reheated.
  • I like RXbars too, only five ingredients. Another good one is Epic, good things like egg white, dates, lemon, almond, no junk.
  • Personally, I do not endorse WLS. There are too many changes to how your body needs to get nutrients. Risks of ulcer, osteoporosis, anemia, vitamin deficiency, protein malnutrition are some of the side effects that can be serious. I have two family members who had it, who suffered years of ill health.
  • There is no motivation without action
  • My treadmill is set at 4 incline (out of 10). Doing 45-60 mins without holding on gives me a good sweat.
