  • July check in: Still doing 5 deficit, 2 maintenance. Sun-Mon are maintenance at 2100ish. Tues-Sat are deficit at 1600ish. Weight Jumped from mid-190s to 202 at Thanksgiving with first refeed. has ranged from 205-210 since. 10-15 lbs...sadly probably not all water weight ;) Strength came up a bit, but so did the fluff…
  • What I've learned in the last couple weeks is that I'm treating maintenance day like cheat day. Super Bowl didn't help. Time to rein it in.
  • So-called maintenance days are proving to be much harder to manage for me than deficit days. I'm tending to treat them more like cheat days, especially the Sunday. It didn't help that it was the SuperBowl yesterday, but I didn't have than as an excuse the previous 2 weekends. Monday isn't as tricky, I'm simply adding a few…
  • I made another thread about refeeding and got some advice to take a 2-week diet break. So I did, and here is my follow up post, reposted here: Woooohooo! Let the re-shred begin! The two week diet break ended yesterday. It was brutal, eating Hawaiian shave ice and fish tacos, peanut butter M&Ms and leftover See's candies…
  • Woooohooo! Let the re-shred begin! The two week diet break ended yesterday. It was brutal, eating Hawaiian shave ice and fish tacos, peanut butter M&Ms and leftover See's candies from Christmas, but I powered through. Overall weight went from 195 to 211 from mid-Oct to now. Guessing some is water, glycogen, more…
  • Back home, 3 more days of this. Can't wait to let the shredding begin. Gonna enjoy some 5 guys Cajun Fries first though.
  • Started my 2 week diet break yesterday. I've done weekend refeeds since the last post. Looking forward to eating some things that I've missed, but honestly, I'm anxious to get cutting again... I'm not looking as lean as I was pre-refeeds, and even then I was still wanting to get a little leaner.
  • I've also been taking in 8.5g/day of creatine for the last few weeks rather than my usual 3g/day.
  • Funny that you mention NEAT. With the 'Rona virus we are using Microsoft teams and other virtual platforms a lot more in our office and I'm not running up and down the stairs meeting with all the different engineers and designers throughout the day like I used to. I spend a lot more time in and around my specific office…
  • Thanks! I appreciate the time and effort you have taken to help me out. One diet break coming up! (It will start Jan 7 on the flight to Hawaii, total spur trip the moment trip my wife and youngest son cooked up yesterday and booked today, lol) (and I'm just vain enough that I want to look good on the beach) I was hoping…
  • BMR is a term that I'm familiar with and understand what it means but I've been discounting or ignoring exercise calories on purpose, mainly because I mostly weight train and it's a lot harder to quantify that vs running or cycling. TDEE is a term I was not familiar with but upon looking it I see if it is simply BMR plus…
  • Overkill making that you did it more often than needed? But it made it easier? Or just easy? Easier in what way? Quicker? Less hungry? Just curious. Thanks! Like I said, I'm not done losing the vanity weight (fat) but overall I like where I am, I just hoped to maintain at a little higher TDEE.
  • The version with a maintenance day in the middle of the week isn't my version, it's one of the plans that Lyle suggested in one of his videos. I thought I would give it a shot. How did I complicate it? I presented 4 plans that Lyle presented in his videos. The rest of the post is just background. I'm looking to see what…
  • WOW!!! That is an amazing transformation! What did you do, how long? What are you doing now?

  • Thanks! How is your progress? Never heard I look like Vin Diesel, though I'll take that compliment all day long. The guys at the refinery called me Marky Mark when I was out there about 15 years ago, I had more hair then. 😁😁
  • Modifying my diet to add refeeds. I've been on my "bro-diet" for 2 years. Macros set at 1600cal/day, 25/50/25 c/p/f Over the first 8 months I dropped weight 232 to 192, pretty consistently. The mirror and gym performance suggest that it was mostly fat that I lost, so pretty happy. Based on what I was eating and losing, I…
  • Party size peanut butter M&Ms, one bag every afternoon.
  • Actual Grandpa photo, with my bride and oldest grandson. Also Harry the designer mutt.
  • Thanks, I appreciate that! I was maintaining while trying to lose, which was bumming me out...I was hoping that maintaining would be closer to 2200cal/day rather than 1600. In the gym I'm used to "trying to improve" = "maintaining" (or "slowing the decline") but I was really hoping this 1600cal/day wouldn't become the new…
  • Time for a refeed? https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10604863/of-refeeds-and-diet-breaks/p1
  • Here you go.
  • October check in, same as July. Maintaining without meaning to maintain. Seems like I should still be losing but I'm not.
  • Fantastic progress! That is very impressive, what a journey and transformation! Keep up the good work. I agree about use it or lose it. I hit the weights 5-6 days/week, with a jog/hike 1-2 days. Most working sets are 70-90% 1RM in varying set/rep structures and exercises to keep my body guessing. I'm going to try and add a…
  • Fantastic, glad to hear it! Are you still losing weight at 1750/day? I seem to plateau at 1800, which is honestly a little disturbing to me, since my base rate used to be around 2200-2300/day (based on losing 1.5lb/wk at 1600day for the first 6 months) What are your PRs? What are you working on? What's your approach…
  • Update on this thread...I hit 191 last summer 2019 about 4 months after that last post. Since then I've spent a lot of time between 192-200, though leaner than I was at 201 in April 2019. Strength isn't great though it's actually not much lower/equal to the numbers listed above. Heavy bench is in the toilet due to landing…
  • Still at it, bangin' around in the 190s. Still trying to get a little leaner but enjoying the summer and enjoying the process. My gym closed as I commented above but now the other gym I was a member of reopened (VASA) and so I've been going there. Equipment isn't as good and with it being smaller the equipment isn't as…
  • Thanks for checking in and the kind note! Our attitude is the only thing that we can truly control, and thankfully I generally have a good one (whether I'm naively delusional or not is debatable)
  • March update: COVID-19 starting to ramp up in Utah. I'm fortunate to have a neighbor offer his backyard gym to use. It's not quite 24 Hour Fitness, but it's actually very well equipped. It's a little weird to work out with gloves on. I'm still working. And instead of going out to lunch everyday, we're getting take-out at…
  • Thanks! I'm just trying to follow the program, and balance immediate rewards with long term goals. The scale is giving me a different story than the mirror...I'm in this weird 195-199 spot, and I seem to be unwilling to do more cardio or eat less to break out of it. Plus quite a few excursions into "maintenance level"…
