  • Just got back from a long road trip. Most of the exercise consisted of easy walks (i.e. tide pooling) or short hikes. A couple of notable exceptions: A visit to my in-laws had me running up and down their long hill of a driveway (the cows watched me go up and down repeatedly and really looked like they thought I was nuts).…
  • Today is my one-year anniversary of continuous logging into MFP! While I have been on and off the site for years, this is the longest stretch of logging that I have ever done. The results of that effort: * I've lost 30 pounds and have been in successful maintenance for about 2 months. * I've gone from not being able to use…
  • This is what I did. It was mentally much more manageable for me than staring down the entire weight loss goal at once. I used each 10 pounds to reflect on what was working, what wasn't working, and adjust my habits as needed. Enjoy the process! :)
  • Short on time yesterday, so did about 40 min. on the elliptical (2.6 mi; mostly zone 3, with some intervals into zone 4). Today I did a full hour (3.5 mi), taking it a bit easy (45 min in zone 2, and about 12 min. in zone 3). I followed this with full-body slow-speed strength training. My sleep is still messed up, so I'm…
  • Did a shorter than normal elliptical session yesterday. Hormones are messing up my sleep right now, so I was tired and not feeling it, but I did it anyway (because perimenopause ain't the boss of me!). ~2.5 miles in ~45 min., with a few short intervals at the end. HR was mostly in zone 3 (small dips into zone 4).
  • Went for another neighborhood walk in the hills with the kid on Thursday. We went a little faster than Tuesday (~3.5mi in ~1hr.) HR was mostly in z2, but there were significant dips into Z3 and a tiny dip into z4. Yesterday I mowed the lawn in the backyard and our field in the "back 40". This was with a push mower, not a…
  • I saw the same after first losing, but it is going away as I've gone into maintenance. Perhaps it will improve over time for you too?
  • Good idea! Ironically, I do this with the parts of my routine that are bodyweight only, so I'm not sure why I didn't think to do this with the dumbbell stuff too. See? This is why I still post here. :D Thanks!
  • Went for a hilly neighborhood walk with the kid. It was hot, kid was slow, but overall a nice change of pace from the elliptical. We did 3.1 miles in just under an hour. Mostly z2, with a bit into z3 on the hills. I could've gone faster, but the kid wasn't feeling it today. Instead, I came home and did my…
  • I haven't posted in a couple of weeks because there were some household health issues that kept me busy. (Everyone is ok now, thankfully!) Anyhoo, can you guess what I did for exercise? Yup, a bunch of elliptical sessions (range from 45 min. to an hour), averaging about 4 days per week with 2 days/week of full body…
  • I love using the arm poles! After the first month or so of using the elliptical, I noticed a major difference in my previously-injured shoulder. It may not seem like much to use the poles, but it was enough to give me some good shoulder rehab. Congrats on the faster pace!
  • 45 min. elliptical, 2.7miles, HR Zone 3.. Followed by full body strength training supersets. Will do some pool volleyball later, too. ;)
  • One hour elliptical, 3.3 miles, hr zone 2/3 border the whole time. And some crunches. :)
  • 3 miles in ~50 min. on the elliptical, almost all in HR Zone 3. Followed this with a lighter version of the strength training from the other day (minus the lateral squats) to maintain the habit, but prevent overdoing it. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.
  • No walk outside today since it was over 85F at 9am! Yuck. I'm still quite sore today, so I jumped on the elliptical to get the blood moving and keep up the habit. It took the first full mile to "work the rust out". I just kept a very slow pace. Once I felt less stiff, I could comfortably increase my pace for the next 2…
  • Thanks for the updates! I'm just another one cheering you on from the sidelines. Also, good job listening to your body. Sometimes stopping to rest can be the hardest part of this journey.
  • OMG... I am so sore from yesterday! I'm not sure which part was a little too much, but the lower body is on fire! Thankfully the joints are fine with yesterday's weight lifting experiment. So there's that. Needless to say, today is definitely a rest day (other than some stretching stuff). Oof.
  • The kid and I went for a short walk today on mostly flat ground (gentle slopes or "false flats"). We covered about 2 miles in 30 minutes. HR in Zone 2 and 3. That was as long as either of us wanted to be outside in the heat. :p After we came home I did some strength training. I'm experimenting with different exercises to…
  • Thanks for the reminder! It is now a month later and the math works! I've been sitting at about 144 (+/- 1 pound) the entire time. Yay data and numbers!
  • The kid and I did a 4 mile walk in about 75 min. We weren't moving very fast today, as it is getting hot again. ugh... Anyhoo, my HR was mostly in Zone 2, with frequent dips into 3 and 4 going up hills.
  • Did a quick 30 min on the elliptical (2 miles... a fast pace for me!), most in Zone 3. This served as warmup for some strength training: Crunches, bridges, dumbbell pushups and rows, bicep and tricep curls, and some shoulder therapy.
  • @MikePfirrman every time you mention the "Assault Bike" I get this weird image of you running some apocalyptic training course where people throw bikes at you. :D
  • lol... Well, that mini-goal didn't last long! :D I went about 2 weeks and decided I just needed a break from losing weight. I'm in a healthy BMI range, so I'm going to relax** for now. I increased my calories for maintenance and have been holding steady for about a month now at ~144. Instead, I'm just focusing on fitness.…
  • Since the weather is playing nice today, the kid and I went for an hour-ish walk in the hilly neighborhood behind us. We walked as fast as we could (Except for one break at the top of the biggest hill to try to see the elementary school in the distance :) ). We covered 4.4 miles. My HR was mostly in Zone 2 (except for the…
  • I forgot to post the other day: an easy (zone 2) 40 min elliptical session (2.1 miles), followed by some upper body dumbbell stuff (and crunches and bridges). I was afraid I might have overdone it with the shoulder, but I completely rested yesterday and it feels fine now. The hardest part of working out is finding how far…
  • Elliptical for about an hour, 3.6 miles, most in HR zone 3, with dips into zone 4 for some intervals at the end. Unlike @swimmom_1 I did NOT get up at 6 to do it. :D Instead, I spent most of the day whining and being grouchy that I didn't get enough sleep last night. I eventually told myself to shut up and get my grumpy…
  • Still recovering from whatever weird virus my kid and I got this week (and yesterday's migraine to go with it). Anyway, I had more energy today so I hit the elliptical for an hour (3.3 miles), with my HR up in Zone 3 for most of it. This isn't a bad performance (for me) on paper, but it felt hard.
  • Have been sick for a few days, so not much to report. Yesterday, I was feeling better so jumped on the elliptical for a slow and steady 45 min. My HR was higher than usual for the slow pace. I followed with some easy strength training, just to get back in the habit. I had plans to get up and walk early this morning (before…
  • Another neighborhood "hike" with the kid. About an hour; 3.7 miles, about 40 min. in Zone 2 or below, and about 20 min in Zone 3 and 4 (uphill parts and the part where the kid had to hurry back for the bathroom :D ).
  • Back to boring  : 45 min. elliptical; about 2.5 miles; about half of the time in HR Zone 3, with a small dip into Zone 4 at the end when I pushed the pace a bit.
