  • I have a busy job too and am mum to two teenage boys so I completely understand the difficulty in getting the motivation to work out after work. I tell myself that anything is better than nothing and I will go for 20 minutes and if I'm enjoying myself then I'll stay a bit longer. I also find that classes help to motivate…
  • Hi Rebecca - very similar - was also heading towards a 16 and it was a scary time. I got my head back together and am comfortably back in my 14s. I'd like to be a 12 but 10 would be too slim for me. If you want to add me go ahead Alli
  • Really good idea to make one change each week. People like to get to know the routine but one new track each week will keep it interesting. Sounds like your class will be really good fun - sorry I am not nearer! x
  • Congratulations! I'm a participant and love zumba. Agree that you need to look like you are loving it. Also know your routines and try and give me the heads up of what is coming next - I hate it when I've missed a couple of reps because the instructor gave no clue what we were doing next. A few whoops and hollers and…
  • Hi How about just getting out for a walk? Building it up gradually. Always tricky to recommend a DVD when you sound like you are a beginner and I'm not sure how much you could manage to start with. Can you borrow some DVDs from a shop or friend? Something like 30 day shred does sound like it is much more advanced than you…
  • Used to live in Leicester, now living in Jersey, Channel Islands. Just started back after quite a while away and looking for some friends to help the motivation ;)
  • Doesn't sound mean at all - sounds very sensible. If I was your mum I would be very pleased that you were being so careful. I'm too old to be your friend but good luck!
  • Hi I bought specific ear phones for exercise. They go round the back of my head so the wire doesn't get in the way of your arms. I find it much better. x
  • Well done to you for making a start. I've been trying to get into this running lark for ages and I am never going to love it but I do love that it really helps with my toning and weight loss so I keep going. Couch to 5k is great. I try and mix it up a bit - if I get bored with a continual run/jog then I do a bit of…
  • Hi all - me too - I've been told by others that my diary is pretty healthy. I like to cook and I'm trying to have my 3 meals and only a couple of pieces of fruit for snacks. This has been a very good week. I was doing ok before xmas but then put it all back on - very disappointing!!
  • Yesterday I did my first 25 min continuous run. I took advice from a personal trainer and lowered my speed so I could just keep going at a comfortable speed. I ran at 4.6mph (yes very slow but I got over that psychological hurdle of knowing I could do it). I'm pretty sure I could do it faster so next time (yes, I actually…
  • Well I feel very slow now but I'm fine with that. I'm still building up my running and am doing the C25k. This week I did my first 25 min run and my personal trainer advised me to slow my speed right down so I could keep going for longer. It worked - so it was only 4.6mph but a great feeling of achievement that I actually…
  • Am so interested to hear how you get on with the 25 min run - it feels like a big jump up from the 8 minute run. Think I'm going to do that one more time before moving up. Good luck!
  • W5D2 completed today. Was a bit unsure about 2 x 8 min runs but felt really good and am so glad I did it. Next one is the 25 min run so I might slow down my pace and just take it really slow. Well done everyone, keep going.
  • You don't need a cell phone. I googled C25k, printed off the programme and I'm now on week 5. Nothing stopping you now - you too can be one of those runners!
  • Yes it does count - and there is a C25k written specially for the treadmill - it has the times on it when you should walk and run. My trainer suggests always having the treadmill on 2.0 incline - that way it mimics road conditions better.
  • Well done on the 25 minute run - I would love to be able to do that. Still struggling with the shorter runs, but today I did actually manage W4D1. I reduced my speed so that I could run for longer. This time I actually made it through the last 5 minute run which I found too difficult last week. Hopefully get to the gym…
  • There's a 5k run for charity in aid of our women's refuge on Sunday. I may not be quite ready to run the whole way but I'm going to enter with the aim of running as much as I can but knowing that I will have to walk some of it. Aim to run under 45 mins. Wish me luck!
  • Fantastic! Well done! Week 6 eh? As I start Week 4 and am finding it difficult - I need to hear things like this. Hope you manage to finish your schedule but if not, can you get to a gym to do it on the treadmill?
  • Started W4 today. Didn't quite manage to do the last 5 min run and had to walk some of it. I think I might need to slow down a bit so I'm not quite so out of breath by the time I get to the last run.
  • I'm on the same week - just completed W3. I actually felt good at the 23 min point so I then did some intervals. 1 min faster running, and 2 min walks until I got to 4k. Yay!
  • This week I have been doing W3. Last night I got to the 23 mins where you should just walk and I decided I still had some energy left in me. So....I did some intervals - faster runs for 1 mins and walks for 2 mins. I got to 4km in 32 mins and really felt some achievement. I can feel that 5k just around the corner.
  • No I wouldn't think so - you need to listen to your body. Better to rest and then get back into it gently. Hope you are feeling better soon x
  • Absolutely - having a partner would be great. I did W3D2 today. Wow! Found it so much easier than when I did the first day of the week. I'm doing it on the treadmill and when I did the first day I was under 2k at the end. This time I increased my speed to 9k and then when I had finished the programme and got to 23 mins - I…
  • Did W3D1 today - felt like a big step up - running for 3 mins was definitely harder, but doable and am hoping it starts to feel easier. Probably didn't help that I also tried to increase my speed.
  • Did W3D1 today and felt like quite a step up. 3 minute runs were difficult but I did manage it. I am only managing under 3k in the 30 mins at the moment and thought that this run might step up the distance but it didn't. I'm hoping D2 will feel a bit easier.
  • Hi , I'm Alli from Jersey, Channel Islands. Originally from Birmingham, then Leicester and we got moved out here 8 years ago. Got 2 boys aged 15 and 12 and can no longer blame the weight on the babies!! Finally found a way to enjoy exercise - group exercise and a personal trainer once a week to keep me on track. Logging my…
  • Completed W2D3 today. So far, so good. Moving on to W3 next.
  • Thanks - found it - but would be a bit difficult for me as the ingredients are all American. lol
