Just get out on your bike more. I did my first 125 mile ride having never ridden more than 40 miles. I used my commuting bike because I knew it was comfy. It was a doddle.

I've done loads of 200km (125miles) rides, 2 300km rides, and 2 600km rides. In February, I did my first fixed gear 200km. I do them with audax uk - I love long distance stuff. 600s are great. I did my first one in 32 hours, with 4 hours sleep. Brilliant experience. I've got another 600 coming up, and my first 400 later in…

I eat oats+oatbran mixed with sweetened soya milk. I don't heat it, as it tastes nicer cold. 30g with about 200ml of soya works for me - enough to do a 20 mile cycle ride to work and not feel hungry until lunch.

Today was cold (-3c), but I had my winter tights on so didn't suffer the exquisite pain of my *extremity* thawing when I got to the office. I did 57.4km at an average 25.5kph. Not bad given I was wearing double everything. Skipped my planned 10km run at lunch as my knees and ankles are hurting since my 10km on Monday, and…

Yay, another go!

I'll take a second round of this - adding now.

I jumped from furthest distance of 37km, straight to 200km, and from there to 300km and from there to 600km (400km - 4hrs sleep - 200km). You can do it as long as your bike is comfortable. If I were you, I'd invest in a fitting session at a bike shop that knows what it's doing, or even better, a bike fitting specialist.…

*boggle*. If I didn't ride in the rain, I'd get much less cycling done. I've never thought once about not cycling in the rain. Bikes aren't made of sugar and nor are cyclists. Don't let a bit of water keep you off the bike. Tips - get some Crud Roadracer MK2 mudguards if you are going to do it a lot. Use Finish Line Green…

IINCREDIBLE! Seriously, what an inspiration.

I can get away with energy + electrolyte drinks up to 50 miles, but in terms of food on the go, flapjack works best for me. I like the chocolate or yoghurt coated ones best. I hate gels (fruit phlegm). One thing I've observed is that the more people use "specialist" nutrition, the more problems they seem have. Most of the…

If you want to find it less torturous, there is a good literature on satiety promoting, low calorie density food. Dr Barbara Rolls has written a diet based on it called the Volumetric Diet. Or save your money, and eat lots of oats and rink lots of water.

Up to 319.9km (198.3miles).

The best event I've done is the Seething 600km. Pretty route, with some really lovely bits around the 400-500km mark when you need it, great food, and lovely helpers. One of the helpers even too a cake order from me a few weeks in advance, and it was waiting for me at the 265km mark. How awesome is that! Sadly, it's not on…

>1000km a month. SR (audax) series (200km, 300km, 400km, 600km) Do the 400 in under 19 hours <done 300 in 13.27 so doable) Do the 600 in under 28 hours < done 600 in <32 hours, but with 4 hrs sleep, and another in 36 hours with 3 hours sleep - will be tough for me)

Yep, I have a Specialized Tricross that I'm running fixed. It's got Schwalbe ice tires on at the mo' (in anticipation of the ice that hasn't arrived), but normally I use it exclusively on road, despite it being a crosser. Furthest ride I've done on it is a metric century, but if the weather isn't nice enough to take my son…

My boy was on a balance bike from two and on a pedal bike from 3 1/2. He's just turned six now, and has done 25km on his own bike, and competed in a duathlon. Last summer, we did a 112km brevet together on the tandem in my profile pic. Very proud. So, as you can imagine, when I heard that my colleague had got his kid on a…

Goal this month, 1000km. 1/1 - 0 2/1 - 9.9 3/1 - 57.4 4/1 - 57.4 5/1 - 28.7 so far, but will do another 28.7 on the way home (I'm from the UK, apologies for our date formatting)

Anyone out there?

UK guy here. Adding you now.

Anything over a century, I use electrolyte drinks (SIS Go or Nuun). Never had cramps.

I do a 36 mile commute 5 days a week during the winter, and up it to 39 in the summer. It's fine - if the weather is okay, it's an hour each way. However, I've been caught in the snow and it's taken 90 minutes. I've found I've become pretty obsessive about the weather and bike prep. Did 15000kms last year.
