be careful not to mix up volumetric ounces with ounces weight. You're measuring the sauce by volume and the turkey by weight. 5 fluid ounces of sauce may not weigh 5 oz. That's why I weigh EVERYTHING. Most food packages will have the serving size in grams so that they can easily be weighed.

Proud to be your friend on MFP! Congratulations on all the hard work!

Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe is a very good resource for a brand new lifter. It focuses on compound lifts (ones that require the use of several muscle groups to accomplish) like squats, dead lifts, bench press, etc. It's also barbell based so there's a little bit of equipment involved. If you're looking for something…

Huge pen nerd here. I cannot use fine points, has to be a medium. Pentel RSVP is my favorite right now.

I'm surprised that no one suggested this yet, but if you have a smart phone there is an app called sleep cycle that could help. It monitors how you sleep with the accelerometer in the phone and will wake you up at or near your desired time when you're sleeping the lightest. This may help with making sure your sleep is as…

How do you explain that to people when they see it in your mouth?

I know everyone says that hormonal BC doesn't make you gain weight, and I'd have to agree. However I have not been able to drop weight the way I could when not using it. I'm bloated a lot and the cravings are sometimes ridiculous. Can't wait to get my paragard!

Sugar free pudding :) You can eat the whole box for that if you use skim milk

Why such high volume?

I'm signed up for Savage race on Sept 14th. It's got like 20 obstacles and it's a 6-7 mile course. This isn't my first mud run, but it's the first one I've done that's so intense. I'm focusing more on strength because I'd really like to be able to do as many obstacles as I can. I'm not too worried about the running since…

I think people object over the amount of cholesterol. I wish people would see that dietary fat does not necessarily =high blood triglycerides...

Love my jeans. I always go for the curvy fit (no plumber's crack for me) since I've got a smaller waist and larger hips and thighs
-
@WKwebby, you can look up calorie counts for strength training, it's just in the cardiovascular section. Beware it's much lower than one would think.

QFT, this should answer any questions you have.

I do 16:8 and I go just barely over my maintenance calories on lifting days only. On non-lifting days I try to keep a 500 calorie deficit. I'm doing an experiment to see if it's possible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. It's also much easier for me to stick to, because I get 4 days of indulging a little and…
-
I've also been dabbling with the 16:8 method. I like having large, satisfying meals and this allows me to be able to do that while still staying under my calorie goal.

Make absolutely sure you're doing your strength exercises with correct form!

From what I've read, males can reasonably expect to gain 1-2 kg of muscle per month. So the weight fluctuation is probably not all muscle, but maybe some. Water weight can really mess with your head. Make sure you are measuring your food, counting calories and getting enough protein for muscle retention and lift while…

If that's a pic of your tummy OP I'd have to say I think it's pretty accurate. Just because you're not very muscular doesn't mean that your body fat is high. I'm 5'4", 155 lbs waist 28", hips 41", neck 13" and it tells me I'm 30%, which I think may be just a touch high by 3 or 4 percent.

This seems like a strange move, I would need much heavier weight for the squat than I'd be able to press...

Low fat cottage cheese is one of my protein staples. It's an acquired taste, but at ~70 calories its got about 11 or 12 grams of protein. I sweeten it with splenda and add fruit for dessert!

I used to feel exactly this way. I would compare myself to all other women in the room and find myself lacking. I think through the process of trying to take care of my body, I began to learn to love my whole self as well. And though I still have a good bit to lose, I no longer feel the need to compare my body to others.…

5'4" here and SW of 210, now 150 ish. Trying to lift heavy and mud run my way out of these last few pounds!

I yo-yoed three times before keeping the weight off for more than 4 years. I think the key is really paying attention. Don't stop watching your body (and sometimes the scale) just because you are at a healthy weight. It's scary easy to put it back on...

I've seen bottled fluoridated water for sale. I think you can find it in the baby aisle.

Unless you're creating recipes and naming them yourself, all those "homemades" could be hiding a whole bunch of calories. How do you know that the person who created that food made the sandwich, etc with the same ingredients as you did? It's guessing at best. If you're making something you've got to take the long way and…

Feel free to add me! I'm on every day and have used MFP to lose about 30 pounds over a few years (lost 30 before joining). Oh and I'm 5'4" :)

I love food and have no self control... Still haven't overcome it, but I try to deal with it by preparing most of my own meals and knowing exactly what and how much I'm consuming.
