Long runs at least once a week are key in getting faster, it will help with your endurance too. I've found the more miles i log in a week, the faster I am in races. For a half marathon I would use Hal Higdon's plan, it's easy to follow and slowly builds your long runs. But definitely more mileage and some speedwork…

I started the C25K program last June, I used it because I really wanted to be a runner but I had bad running endurance. I would huff and puff through a lap at my weekly bootcamp class. I personally love Zensah compression sleeves, that way you can wear your favorite socks with them or flip flops if you use them to recover after hard/long runs. I use my Zensahs for recovery, they are like a massage for your calves & shins.

Since you are already speed walking, you should try running. Just start out slowly, running for a minute or so and then going back to speed walking till you are mostly running.

Good job in taking the first step on this journey. Some advice, drink lots of water, eat clean whole foods (not processed), lots of fruits and veggies, minimize your meat intake, get moving.
