  • Thanks for that back-up information!
  • GTI_Girl, yes coconut is very high in fiber! iceey, coconut oil is just oil whereas butter is coconut meat blended up. pammye65, I found it at my Vitamin Shoppe but I think you could also find it in an organic foods store or Whole Foods. I've read that a brand called Artisana is really popular.
  • I do usually but I don't take the results as a real gain (or loss for that matter). Although, I usually feel normal around day 4 and I start to take the number more seriously. Day 6/7 for sure I know is my true weight.
  • Interesting and so true that human women cannot have Barbie proportions but.- this article should more accurately be titled "The Plastic Surgery a PLUS-SIZE Model Needs to Look Like Barbie."
  • If it's possible, maybe you can suggest a place that you know will have good options? I know it depends on how set they are on that place but it probably wouldn't hurt to ask. Also, it's great that you put your health first instead of just giving in. That' the kind of habit that will get you very far :-)
  • meggamix: thanks for the welcome and baby dust to you! cutmd: I'm sorry for your loss too- but it does get better. I was a mess after mine too and even seeing a baby would bring me close to tears and there are a lot of babies here in NYC! I was a bit of a hermit until I knew I wouldn't cry in public. Slowly I got over it…
  • Hi All, I'd like to join in with you and have read a bit but nowhere near the whole thread yet. I'm working on it :-) For now I'll start you all off with this: Age: 24 Where you live: NYC Job: Student with a work-study job Length of time on the board: About 3 weeks Marital Status: Living together (not married yet) Length…
  • I weigh myself everyday but log it into my android app, Libra (https://market.android.com/details?id=net.cachapa.libra&hl=en) I like it because it does this: An Android application that takes daily readings of your weight and displays them in a chart with a moving average "tendency curve" in order to absorb errors in daily…
  • I have to agree wholeheartedly with TK421NotAtPost- once a week reading cannot be more accurate than daily readings because of fluctuations. And while I agree weighing oneself everyday can become obsessive in some people, I'm not entirely convinced that this is true of most people who weigh themselves daily. Some people…
  • ay some Malta India and maduros! What a dream! Every once in awhile (once a week or a bit more for me) I like to have a bit of my favorite fried foods because it helps you from going crazy on a binge. Yesterday I had a bit of chicharron but I made sure I weighed it and entered it into MFP so I could compensate for the rest…
  • This controversial one works for me: Weighing myself daily keeps me honest about my weight but also prevents me from freaking out about my weight. Yes, you read that right- I get less anxious if I weigh myself daily and record it. Why? Because if I weigh myself daily I will get a feel for my fluctuation patterns and why. I…
  • Ok so only excess sugar calories turn into fat? I have family in (North) Africa. They have a lot of heavily sugared tea- all day every day. And the women are very fat. They are probably getting their fair share of calories though and don't exercise so that's probably it. You're right, I shouldn't stress.
  • I sort of care because unused sugar turns to fat, doesn't it? I guess I'm concerned about becoming (more) skinny fat. It seems like sugar is not good fuel for muscles.
  • I know this is completely unscientific and runs into causation problems but it's interesting to think about: How many thin or in shape people (who have always been thin and STAYED thin as adults) drink soda regularly, diet or not? I would think not too many. What do you all think? There must be some people who can drink…
  • It could be any or a combination of the reasons you listed. But as other posters have stated, it doesn't quite matter. Enjoy it! You deserve it! But I would avoid satiating your curiosity by asking him why he did it. I f he thinks nice things will make you suspicious/make you interrogate him (no matter how nicely) he won't…
  • Not a silly question! I'm not sure 100% how it works but it's bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) wand it sends electrical currents through the bottom of your feet and back to the scale, which will then interpret it. I've never felt this electricity and apparently it depends on how hydrated you are. More hydrated=high…
  • Overweight people cannot brag about their thinness because they are not thin. This site is at minimum 85% overweight/obese/formerly overweight people all talking and blogging about their weight. Thin people are in the minority. The majority of people here are not blogging about how fat and awesome they look because they…
  • I would really like to know why it is always open season to comment on thinner people's bodies? Would you make your rude opinions known on overweight people? I bet not. Just because you are overweight doesn't give you license to put down other people.
  • You look great and younger too! Congratulations on all your hard work :-)
  • I think calling somebody else's body or weight "scary" is very rude.
  • I really thought this was supposed to be a positive place in which we all support each other. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but that doesn't mean you have to share it if it's rude. BMI charts are really out of whack in the US. They don't account for the diversity of frames we have in such a mixed country. Just because…
  • I'm on my second Tanita scale. I've had this one for five years now and still love it. I'm not an ironman (errr ironwoman) but I wanted to know my body fat %. It doesn't seem that accurate but it does seem to stay within a 5% range for me. http://www.tanita.com/en/bc554/
  • Wow, thanks for letting me know. I always feel a bit strange after a few clear urinations, almost as if I'm so empty and kind of parched- which is strange given that it takes a lot of water for that to happen. Now I know why!
  • What's wrong with clear urine? I though it was a good sign
  • It does seems as if bikram really isn't a good calories burning activity. I guess I will have to add in more exercise, even though bikram takes up a lot of my time.
  • Thank you so much for this valuable information! We are about the same weight so I think 300 calories is what I burn too. Also, I just checked out the Bodymedia armband and it looks like a great tool! Here I was thinking that the HRM was the be-all end-all. I am so out of the loop.
  • You're right, it is quite high. But only 300? Really? I do feel that I'm working pretty hard.
  • So how do I figure out how many calories I'm burning in bikram yoga? Because I highly doubt that I'm only burning the 220 calories in 90 minutes that MFP is giving me (although I also doubt I'm really burning 788+calories as other calories calculators have given me.)
  • OMG you guys are probably right and this puts me in a huge calorie overload! I've been using 788 calories as my amount for bikram yoga and have been eating all or part of that. I am extremely hungry after yoga and usually snack and then eat dinner. Maybe I should get a heart rate monitor and really figure out how much I'm…
  • jedinight32, my studio is Bikram only (that's the way Bikram wants it) so it's always the standard class: same heat, complete 26 postures + 2 breathing exercises, same dialog, etc. We have no other types of classes. I think you are taking hot yoga, right? It's great that you love it! xaintes, I've noticed frequency is…
