  • Blackmores Ginger Travel Tablets are awesome is you can get them, I use them for nausea alot. If you use ginger beer make sure it's got actual ginger in it not just flavourings. I've also had the GinGin hard candies and they have worked in a pinch.
  • In the swimmers group there is a thread about this and alot of them suggested vitamin C to wash down in after, it neutralises the chlorine.
  • Mountain bread is a good alternative to wraps. It's only downside is that it is quite thin and brittle and can be hard to roll. Easy to find in Aussie - I used to buy it at IGA
  • Fasting is not just about losing weight either, it has many health benefits besides that.
  • I do endurance horse riding (80km - 160km distances mostly) and I find the best combination for me is to have a litre of electrolytes the day before a ride starts, then I have a protein shake the morning of the ride plus something with carbs - usually dry crackers as I can't stomach much else before a ride. I then have…
  • most definately pasta. I love pasta but rarely eat it because of the calorie count.
  • I have just started wearing compression pants and love them. I run in them and also train my endurance horse wearing them - abit slippery in the saddle but they make a big difference on a long ride :) I usually wear a tight ish top too as I can't stand clothing flapping about.
  • 56 here too :)
  • Any work without stirrups is a great workout! Even going bareback - it's even harder and great for your core muscles. I ride endurance so just doing that keeps me very fit but I also run and do all the farm chores I have to do. Abit of weight training occasionally if I feel like it.
  • You could try intermittent fasting - the 5:2 diet or the 6:1 (for maintaining) You don't calorie count at all on the days you aren't fasting. Look them up on here there is loads of info. And its not just about weight - fasting is good for you body. And it's not as hard as people think :)
  • I always run in the morning before breakfast so I drink water while I run and then usually come in and have a couple of cups of coffee! Not ideal but the thought of the coffee sometimes gets me through my run :)
  • You can do it! you must have just done week 5 day 3 with the 20 minute run - if you could do that then you can do this :)
  • I run on the treadmill. I live in the sticks and don't feel very safe being out on the road all alone, I've also had too many close calls with trucks etc! I like the treadmill - I can empty my mind and just run :)
  • I am finding that my mental toughness is improving. I am pushing through barriers in my mind that I thought were pretty solid - all those lazy thoughts and self doubting thoughts. Also finding the skill to be able to blank out in my mind and not feel the pain, just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
  • Your net calories should end the day at your goal of calories. MFP calculates a deficit already into your daily calorie intake. My goal is 1800 (I am set to loose .5lb a week) So I eat 1800. But then I excercise 500 so really I have only eaten 1300. I need to eat back 500 to make up 1800. MFP has already put a deficit into…
  • I agree about the vinegar being good for weight loss. Dr Oz recommends them for dieters for that reason - vinegar stabilises blood sugar and helps to stave off cravings :) Enjoy some pickles!!
  • Are you trying to run too fast? Maybe slow it down abit (right now speed is not important it's just about doing the time) and see if that helps, otherwise don't put yourself down too much - you've made it this far and you will be able to get past this!! It's all in the mind :)
  • I add up all the intervals and log them as the chunks of total time spent walking and running. For example I am doing week 3 and it's 21 minutes walking and 9 minutes running so that's what I log (at the appropriate speed) plus I log any extra walking/running that I did seeing as I usually do abit more than just the…

  • I drink sparkling all the time, it satisfy's my need for fizz!
  • I know this is an old question/thread but my advice would be to smear the back of your heels with vaseline before putting your socks on, keeps the area lubricated - less friction!
  • Thats what I do too - just add up the intervals and then track the total minutes spent walking and running.
  • Add me to the wagon fallers! Alcohol is my biggest problem at this time of the year. But I am getting back in the saddle - literally - I have 2 horses to ride regularly!
  • I've just started the 5:2 diet and am hoping for some good results. I'd like to drop my body fat percentage abit. I've been doing mfp for more than a year and just with that have lost 8 kilos.
  • Old tyre innertubes are great for poulticing too - just pull over the hoof then fold up and tape.
  • Have you tried backing her? I had a mare that got like this and I used to turn her around and start going backwards in the direction I wanted to go - it's much harder work and they soon figure out that just walking forwards is the easier thing to do (be carefull though - sometimes they will rear to get out of it) The other…
  • Whereabouts in queensland? I am near Kilcoy.
  • Neigh! Sounds like you are living my dream life - I would love to have a trekking business! As it is I just have my own horses (3 currently) But they keep me busy enough :) They were one of my motivators for loosing weight as well - I got a few highly unflattering jodhpur wearing photo's that convinced me that I needed to…
  • Yes - they can upset my stomach quite a bit.
  • I work in a gas station and we have fried food, burgers etc in a hot box on the counter....very hard not to look at when I am working on the console (I also work in the kitchen on different shifts) I try and mentally wrap the hot box in red tape so that I don't venture in there but sometimes I do cave in and eat something…
  • Insulin resistance and stress can lead to weight around the middle too.
