  • 3 days? Healthy weight loss is recommend at about 1-2 lbs per week. If you do lose more than that, especially in only 3 days, its unlikely to be fat that you are losing anyway, and more likely to be water or even muscle. Weight loss isnt instant, its all about stopping bad food choices and enveloping a new healthy…
  • This is a good way to think. Always bring in healthy snacks so that if you get hungry you have them at the ready, and wont be tempted to bad food choices. Healthy snacks could be veggies (carrot sticks, celery) Almonds, fruit, greek yogurt, protein shake.

  • Thanks guys. Sorry I maybe should have mentioned that I have been to the doctors and they have run several tests, all inconclusive. I have no deficiencies or anything that shows up on any tests. Adrenals are functioning correctly etc.. Doctors have mentioned M.E / CFS in the past but to be honest that's only because they…
  • Thank you @livingleanlivingclean I remember someone recommending magnesium to me before for restless legs, I do take a multivitamin but I will try an extra magnesium supplement from now on too!
  • Yep I eat plenty of protein, I'm good with my macros always hit 130g protein and eat fresh fruit & veg every day  I try not to work out late no, for anyone the adrenaline and cortisol is raised for a few hours after exercise, but for me it seems to go on a lot longer and more severely :(
  • That's great guys thank you so much, makes everything a lot clearer, sometimes you just need reassurance you're on the right track! @TR0berts really in depth advice thank you!!! I'm 20% bf so does this mean I only need 108g protein per day? I thought it was 1g per lb of total body weight as @sm4astan also…
  • wow @ObiWanJacoby_ - brilliant mathematics! Thanks for the advice, I will be sure to read the article  It is reassuring to know that I'm following the correct macro guidelines, I will make sure to hit my fat goals in future.. from reading discussions on here it looks as though some people have an even lower carb…
  • @tararooksby - my diary is open, have a look!
  • Yep - calories in vs calories out. If you are not losing weight then you are eating too much, it's that simple. I also agree with @triciab79 - people vastly overestimate the calories they burn when exercising. Not only that but they often eat more after exercise because they feel that they 'deserve' it.
  • Hi  I just asked a similar question as it happens... if you are trying to lose weight then protein is important. Try this website.. IIFYM.com and use their calculator, its really good for determining your calorie and protein intake. As for the sugar, I wouldn't worry too much if its naturally occurring sugars from…
  • Greek yogurt or cottage cheese - good macros and yummy
  • I have M.E / CFS and an open diary, happy to help
  • It depends on several factors, your weight, lean muscle mass, energy expenditure. I would recommend you to use http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/ to calculate how many calories you should be consuming in a day. 1600 sounds good, as @melaniecheeks said, try it out and see if it works for you, tweak where necessary. good luck!
  • I would also be interested to see what everyone thinks about how vitamin supplements and nourishment drinks compare with getting nutrients from food?
  • lol, a little pedantic  everyone is arguing the same point, and I think we are all agreed. On a VLCD you WILL lose weight, however it would not be good for your body, @williams969 summed it up perfectly. What I would also be interested in learning about is the long term effects on your metabolism.. once you have…
  • Wow great videos @AllanMinser thank you! @ndj1979 lol - you have me there, I will have to stick my hand in my pocket if I want to get anywhere
  • Yep that's definitely what I mean.. My gym only has a Smith machine, no squat rack  So I should probably change my gym then!
  • BUMP - I would like to know about this too! I was recommended the Smith Machine, as the bar is on a rack so you don't need to lift it up, but I have since been told that Smith Machines are incredibly bad for you. I can squat 40-50kg but lifting the barbell with my arms I can only manage half that!
  • Eggs contain good cholesterol, so I wouldn't worry too much. Just eat in moderation, too many eggs can cause constipation / bloating, and nothing is good in excessive amounts. There are also far more options than eggs for boosting protein, lean meats like chicken and turkey, fish, seafood, nuts, peanut butter, kidney…
  • I agree with @PikaKnight.. no need for daily cardio, this could hinder your progress with the strength training, and excessive cardio could even cause burn out / fatigue. It sounds as though everything you're doing is right, if you are eating the calories and macros you say you are. I would only comment that your carbs are…
  • Thanks for all the great advice guys. I realise macros are of upmost importance, although forgive me if I disregard the starvation mode theory as IF has always worked well for me and I don't believe that your metabolism is compromised until you reach 48-72 hours. My question was not if IF works, but simply if it is…
  • @Sam_I_Am77 Thanks Sam, I think you guys have the right idea, in fairness I don't usually train on IF days, but more recently I have been doing so. Sara Solomon amongst others have said that they train mid fast with BCAA's and not eat a meal until hours later.. clearly it works for them as they look amazing, however…
  • @4theking - thank you for your advice, I presume that you mean me to eat my first meal (thus breaking the fast) straight after training? Great idea, although I do feel slightly fatigued after a day of IF. I suppose what's lacking is the motivation.. when you set foot in the gym, the adrenaline takes over  -…
  • You guys all seem to be really knowledgeable, and as it has been rightly pointed out, different things work for different people. Skipping breakfast I do not believe to be any better or any worse than eating it. What matters is counting your macros and calories in vs calories out. I'm very interested in learning more about…
  • I'm very interested in learning about this too!
  • And I love your profile! loads of great info on IF / carb cycling which I am very interested in. I wonder if you could take a look at my last posted discussion for me please?... http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10102836/training-whilst-intermittent-fasting-are-bcaas-enough#latest Thank you also for the book…
  • Thank you  This is the first I've heard about the dangers of using a smith machine! Thanks for the info!
  • Bro science? sweetest_potato asked about bulking. No one can disagree that high protein and calorie surplus are important for gaining muscle...? She asked for advice and this is what I know to be true. If you have anything more constructive to say, then please, go ahead....
  • May I please ask why? What's wrong with a Smith Machine? It enables me to lift heavier weights as I can only pick up a maximum on 20kg using my arms because they are weaker.... Is there something I should know?!
